hi,

im new to skylines, (had mine a week) and have a few questions someone wiser could hopefully answer;

was wondering if i will damage the front diff setup by removing the fuse from the engine bay and making it full time rwd? (untill i finish my awd/rwd switch)

my car is a 1992 r32 gtst-4 with r33 (vg30?) highflow turbo, big front mount, 15psi, 3" straight pipe, brass button clutch + lightened fly wheel etc etc. its just had a dyno tune and only makes 144rwkw at all 4 wheels? i was thinking the power figure would have been much higher than that? it had a blow off valve of some description but i took it off because im not a fan, has given slightly earlier boost but still drops down to about 10psi by the time im in high revs.

the next thing im thinking of doing is a nistune ecu, bee*r rev limiter and an eboost 2. thoughts?

nope. common mod. get used to driving it in 4wd. it will feel a lot different than the RWD car you had,

as for modding it. search GTS4 on here . dropping another engine in is a bit different as a normal skyline motor will not fit. a stagea 4wd one does though. check my sig for a bit more info (I own a 89 2 door GTS4.)

First and foremost, welcome to the club of skyline ownership.

To answer a few questions;

A VG30 turbo is infact off a 300ZX, so it' either an r33 T3 turbo or a vg30 turbo. Your power figure does seem a little low, but keep in mind the awd system. You get a massive amount of drivetrain loss in terms of power (20-30%). Nistune is a good modification; it will tidy up your tune and unlock some more power. Also, you can get it retuned easily everytime you make a larger modification. As far as electronic boost controllers go, they're good but not essential and you can get by on a bleed valve without trouble. a greddy prospec was one of the first purchases I made for mine and I regret buying it before more important parts - like new coilpacks.

Mine - fairly stock - produced 115 awkW (145 rwkW), so your 144 awkW is a pretty fair improvement.

You are probably not aware that the GTS4 does not run permanent AWD, unlike Subarus and Lancers. It only engages the front drive wheels under certain conditions - do a search to discover how the Nissan ATTESSA system works.

I don't understand this desire to disable the front drive. Frankly, if you don't want the AWD, why buy a car with it.

Welcome to gts4 ownership! I like them and am biased. I think the front diff and transfer case are fine removing the fuse. Why? You've now got posts from 3 different gts4, to stagea rb25 engine up graders. If you stay with the rb20, there is a sticky on turbos and upgrades in "forced induction performance".

thanks for all the welcomes :)

*under closer inspection, its an r33 highflowed ballbearing turbo. so a bit of moneys been spent on it.

and to answer a feq questions, i like disconnecting the FWD setup when i want to slide it, and just bought and installed an Apexi AVCR, sooo much better! couldnt be happier with how the car drives now! no boost drop off in high rpms, more stable boost, comes on earlier and smoother etc etc. took a while to tune but well worth the money.

and why wont a normal skyline engine fit!? what about r32 gtr? they use the same awd setup yeh?

aannnddd, thats all the questions i can remember :) thanks for the help/inputs guys.

in the coming weeks im getting nistune ecu, 16psi, forward facing intake plenum, HKS adjustable cam gears (any one know much about driveability changes/performance *if any* from cam gears with stock cams??) catch can, bigger injectors and putting in my bosch 909 fuel pump (anyone know how many horsies a 909 will handle in an rb20?)

hopefully she'll boogie then :) been told to expect around 220-230RWKW? currently making around 180-190 i believe.
