Hey guys hows it going?

I took my car to the runs about a month ago now after finally finishing my engine build.

now im currently running a PAR gear set straight cut 1-3 with standard forth gear syncros still, now going down the track i was tryin to get into forth probably about the 3/4 of the track but 4th gear wouldnt select.

now iv rung my engine builder and he told me speak to the guys who built the box for me and from there they told me speak to the guys from PAR themself to find out more, and his told me that there is nothing i can do?

he said you could probably install a single plate clutch which i will have problems holding the power with or he said i could change gears at a lower rpm.

i want to find out if anyone else is using this gearset and is havin the same problems as i am.

now i know alot of people dont like this gearset and i would probably agree with that but i want to know what i should do from here?

car is currently running a twin plate exedy clutch supporting just over 400kw atw

it's not likely to be the clutch mate. putting a single plate in is a dumb idea.

if you still have stock 4th gear and stock synchro's then you need to look at replacing them with new ones or upgrading them to a 1-4 gearset. I'm pretty sure PAR make a 1-4 gearset. having said that you shouldn't be having this problem. plenty of people are running around with 400kw on standard boxes and can shift 3-4 at high rpm. so there is either something wrong with your driving/shifting style (possible) or something wrong with the box. Could be a selector problem (3/4 selector is a common failure), could be synchro problem (they are fairly robust though). either way you need to get it checked out. firstly though I'd get someone in the know to have a drive and see what they think. then get it pulled out and pulled down to inspect. expensive but it's the only real way to diagnose the problem.

iv already spoken to jarrad at par and he was the one telling me it was my clutch, and i told him it cant be that and he also told me that they don't make longer gear ratios or a 1-4 gearset.

but iv spoken to my engine builder who organised the box for me as part as my engine build and he was saying that its bullshit it cant be the clutch.

so now were looking at mayb the way it was put back together if the spacing wasnt done right and if its not that then looking as puttin in some better quality syncros to help out.

i dont think its my drvinin because it never has a problem going into gear any other time its just under high pressure.

so for the mean while im just watin on some answer but i wanted to no if anyone else has had the same problem before?

Id be pulling the box down.

What do you mean by won't select 4th??

Selects and has no drive in 4th or physically won't go into 4th gear at high rpm?

If it's the latter it could be a worn baulk ring, damaged selector, damaged selector hub, bent shaft etc etc.

its really no surprise your engine builder got hold of a box that no one likes given who built your engine and their rep.

i remember talking to you at the drags about this, with my os giken syncro set i had no problems finding any gears and i was still in 3rd at the end of the track, i always thort PAR used the same ratios as os giken?

as said above contact PAR but from every story i heard they dont care about warranty so it will be a tough fight.

take the box to award diff & gearbox in seven hills to get pulled down, put new 4th syncro in and see if the problem is solved

if not sell the box and get an os giken set

8 boxes, nearly 2 years and a pending court case, still have a f**ked gearbox and a half smart flamin mongrel telling me that he isnt gonna pay a cent. Weather it be legal or Ill eagle ill be getting my money out of this lowlife scumbag flamin mongrel. Do yourself a favour, suit up and sue, if he puts on the same front, ill pick you up on the way through to my "visit with him". Oxygen thieves dont fare well in my books, and these bastards fit that bill well, very well.

Allan Shaw.

P.S., mods, id like the post to not be deleted. People need to know about the shit these dream boats pull.

to be honest apart from it not selecting 4th gear i havnt had to much problems.

and my not selecting 4th i mean that it wont even go in at all, but for now i took it back to the engine builder he told me that its prob cause he had shit gearbox oil in it and that my clutch needed adjusting because it was still being run in so the only way to find out now is to go back to the runs for another try and if not then its back to his workshop.

And uwish i no if i had the choice i would of went with the os giken set but thats a whole different story and i dnt wanna go there, but yer my ratios are way different i was prob missing the last 1/4 of the track
