I'm not ditching a set of 'bolt ons' for another set. I know its the obvious and logical thing to do but that doesn't answer my question. Ill try this. What's going to have the most linear power curve from the two options. If the engine and head was built to suit each option...

I'm not going to repeat everything that's been said about the -5's (HKS 2530's), but will add:

Twin low-mount 2530's

I was running 2530's on my stock capacity rb26 with stock cams and aftermarket bolt-ons. I found it to be perfectly driveable, and it would have been even better had I been running tubular manifolds. They were truly bolt-on...

As many on here have said, with cams and head setup, these are capable of 380-400wkw. I fail to see how roadside inspection (or even pit inspection, for that matter) could defect them unless they dismantled the car.

T04z single turbo

whereas, a T04z, although it has many great things to reccomend it, is not bolt-on. You will need a mounting kit to go from the turbo to the intercooler, and of course exhaust down pipe and some replacement for the y-pipe. And it will be all too obvious to defecters.

FInally, a word on turbo shuffle. The twin 2835s will need a custom made/fitted pair of turbo manifolds with a balance pipe to avoid turbo shuffle. And as has been pointed out, in order to low mount them, basically need to remanufacture the inlet tract to make it fit. Which, if you are doing yourself, is probably fine, but if paying someone else, not worth it.

So really the sensible choices are between 2530's in low mount configuration, or t04z and probably keep the twin-low-mount setup handy in the shed in the event of getting a defect.

So if i want a car that wants to stall at idol. Smells like petrol uses half a tank driving 100kms is loud and very un comfortable to drive. Is tiring to drive what's the best choice? CAUSE THAT'S THE TYPE OF CAR I'M GOING TO BUILD EITHER WAY

You have no idea and i dont know why any of us are even bothering to reply to this thread.

Do what you want but dont come back here crying saying it doesnt make power, or your right, it is a f**king pig to drive and i hate the car now its for sale....

My last comment will be if you want the biggest pig of a car to drive you are better of selling the car and buying a donkey :D

Piggaz, the dyno i believe was a little happy but not over the top. I think 420-430 may have been more realistic but i dont have any other dynos that this car went on to compare it with. All i know is the car was an absolute weapon to drive.

No ill be coming back here saying why didn't i listen to my 16 yo neighbour who has no idea but had the best advice.. but for now I'm just gonna agree with a couple mechanics i know who told me to say away from forums. Go straight to workshops

Actually i got better replies from broad minded persons on facebook who wanna go for rides in fast skylines. I do seem like i have no idea at least that's better than talking shit cause causing someone to destroy break or loss something they enjoy

Both turbos are a poor choice and will not give anything slightly resembling a linear power curve. You've been told countless times there are better turbo choices out there that will give you a nice fat power curve and good solid power for a street car.

Why can't you sell them and buy an appropriate turbo set? Any mechanic worth talking to will tell you the same thing. By going a set of twins that bolt on you don't have to change anythign and it will look stock, if you go 2835s it will be a laggy piece of crap you can't drive on the street, you also won't be able to take full advantage of it due to the ridiculous amount of money needed for supporting mods, the TO4z will need lots of custom work to fit and will not look stock.

Stick with some tried and true low mount twins that will give you 350kw, this will be the most linear power curve you can get for this power level.

People are giving you good advice here but you don't seem to want to listen, the two turbos you have said you will consider are not good choices, why do you insist on sticking with them?

You mean people that are just telling you what you want to hear? Why don't you just go talk to a mirror if you want to use the 2835s?

I am going to comment further, having worked for a workshop who in its lifetime has built some of the toughest GTR's Australia has probably seen i think i am more than qualified to comment on what you are trying to build. I am no stranger to playing part in building many a Skyline that has seen the high side of 400+rwkw and having helped build cars that have happily run good numbers at the drag strip and gotten podium places in such events as Targa Tasmania i think i know what it takes to build something that will make the power and last a bit longer than most others..... I shiver thinking of te number of times i have seen someone push aside the advice given and build what they want, only to find out the advice they got was the direction they should have taken

You asked for advice and every person on here has given it to you. We are not the idiots who have no idea, you are. You set out what you wanted from the car and peope advised on it, and quite unanimously actually.

If its not what you wanted to hear then why did you even bother asking the question..... a scary car with a bottom end built for 400rwkw.... the only thing scary about that are the bits that are going to go flying out of it when it lets go at 9500rpm

This got me laughing pretty hard. If you think a car with a top end peak power band of 1500rpm is going to be fast then you are sadly wrong. A GTR making 250rwkw with standard turbos would most certainly be a faster can than your 500rwkw lag monster :D

So is it Blackwood Dyno Tune offering you this advice?

Turbz, from what I have read, it seems as if you really don't know what you want....you've gone from wanting linear power to wanting a car that is a pig to drive? Maybe I missed something in between?

Please re-state exactly what you want from your car: ie power, redline, response; what will it be used for? etc etc.

As steve and others have said, first you need to work out exactly what you want, then you can use the advice given to you. In the end, the logical answers will be very evident and you will hopefully have the direction that you need.

This post makes absolutely no sense.

A question is asked and 10 people effectively give the same answer...how much more advice/evidence do you need?

We are actually trying to help....seriously.

What advice did your 16yo neighbour give you? I am genuinely interested to hear...

I have not been to blackwood dyno for years as i live to far away from them now. My profile has been idol for years and i only just started coming back on here

So what exactly is it you want power, driveability ,powerband and engine bay wise?

''Iv worked here'' or ''iv built one before'' or my best friends ex wifes 96th cousin who works for Nissan'' over it and everyone's piece of input.. jusp cause you have been there and see it or experienced is doesn't give you the excuse to be total arrogant fu ck wits about things. There are some of use who put possibly everything into owning and modifying one...

    • Mate you saved be from dying in the Perth summer. AC wasn't changing direction and just going into diagnostics mode fixed it. You're a legend and I would shout you a beer if I could!
    • Unfortunately effort gone to waste, you will have substantial issues with how the manifold and wastegate have been integrated. You would be so much better off with a modified stock manifold like this: https://hypergearturbos.com/product/rb25detexgatedmanifold/   OR literally just getting a off the shelf Sinco or 6Boost manifold as myself and others have mentioned.
    • Yuck. But it's kinda the same principle, moving timing around to make car run bad but sound good.... I went for a more spirited tuning drive to iron out a few things. Car no longer stalls, and it loved to dip RPM low when you clutch in. After tuning this (and the 4-5 tables that HPTuners/LS1 OEM ECU wants for idle air correction) it's now behaving somewhat normal. All expected because there's a new TB, new Intake manifold and that new TB which is 102mm vs 78... has an entirely different IAC passage which is smaller because ????? Unfortunately at this point I went to make further fine tuning changes to avoid it flaring up, you know... _tuning_ the HPTuners dongle died. Well to be more accurate - The USB cable died in a fashion that anyone who has ever charged a phone will recognize. After the app demanding I resync it 50 or so times (which all 'succeeded' but all failed) the device does not want to sync and I've logged a ticket with support to see if it's fixable. US Support said it was a 'storage issue' but after removing the SD card inside it and formatting it/fixing it the issue does persist. Unfortunately usually the fix is "Turn in your old dongle and pay $700 for the upgraded one" it's cheaper because I get some free licence credits I unfortunately don't need. However I'm 10 minutes down the road from HP Tuners AUS/VCM so at least I won't need to post it, and logged a new ticket for support over here. Definitely drives different. My SOTP dyno believes it's probably making 310-320kw instead of the 280 before.  It scrambles for traction a little now whereas it previously different. It drives like a bigger cam car up top even though the cam is smaller, likely due to the cam not being advanced 6 degrees. The timing is deliberately low and the fuel is very rich so who knows if this will improve on the dyno. It may, imperceptably. Also funny is removing the pineapples definitely makes the car squat more and axle tramp less. So this behavior of having more top end, squatting more, and scrabbling for traction more makes me think = more power. But I could have just been sitting on the threshold of that kind of behavior before. Time will tell if my butt dyno is calibrated right. I need the exhaust leaks fixed before dyno tune for obvious AFR related reasons - I repositioned the pipes but I'm not confident it's fully sealed even if it is better. At least the car does drive around while I cannot tweak/tune it for now. And I have aircon again. medium success!
    • Don't use that manifold. Please don't use that manifold. Sunk cost fallacy is not worth the later pain. None of these will be relevant to the change that will come from the different turbo and manifold. As in, the effect of the exhaust will be nil, regardless of what else is changed. And all the cam and fuel system stuff is not changing either way, so has no effect. The turbo and manifold (and to a small extent the wastegate)....big change.
