How is it rational and fair that ANYONE can have their car impounded with the slightest shred of evidence?

If someone saw you stab a guy, they were the only witness, the knife was never found, the body was never found, there was no other evidence other than you not having an allaby (don't know the correct spelling) in your favor, would it incur $4k worth of damage on your behalf and have you arrested on the spot and jailed for a month, or get thrown the f**k out before it got past the police-station receptionist? Who came up with this utter bulls**t?

What possible LOGICAL reason is there for laws such as this to be bought in?

-If I have to have my luggage checked at an airport, that's cool with me and isn't that inconvenient for my personal safety and the hundreds of other people on that flight

-If I get searched at a train station at 3am for weapons in a known violent crime area, I'd be ok with that.

-If some drop-kick is yelling "f*** off you f****** c**** and go eat donuts i f****** hate all you c**** dick sucking f*****" at a divvy van, he probably deserves to be a few dollars down, he was clearly in the wrong

-If my car got impounded for a month, cost me thousands of dollars, destroyed my employment as my job/s rely on a licence and took away my favorite pride and joy, project and primary asset, because an un-named individual ALLEGED I spun my wheels, I'd be fair pissed, especially since there isn't any way to win once the finger has been pointed, you are guilty until proven guilty, fined and punished accordingly. There is no need for evidence other than your word against someone else, and being a 21 year old with a Skyline, what chance would I honestly stand?

No, this isn't your typical whine by someone burnt by these laws, i've never had a speeding fine or parking ticket, licence is fully in-tact, yet I do feel for anyone who has been hard done by in certain circumstances.

Not once in my 5 years of driving have I felt personally threatened by ANY action that would be considered hooning. The only time i've had my personal safety put at risk on the road was at my own hand in the middle of no-where with no-one around, and incidents such as:

-Having idiots over-take towards me on double white lines (ie head on collision), yet they weren't doing over 135 or burning tyres

-Others failing to indicate, thus almost colliding with them

-Multiple near-misses with the elderly, including the above, them driving on the wrong side of the road, not using traffic lights and round-abouts correctly etc.

We know it's not all cops doing it, but in the end they decide who they pull over and it's still a case of obvious prejudice unless they've caught you in the act of doing something stupid. It wouldn't be allowed to exist if it was a racial thing...there would be a massive uproar over it. I don't see the difference...someone is still judging you on a characteristic/trait before you've been proven to do anything wrong.

This! Even having your exhaust reported for being too loud (which it need not be, officer only has to "guess" it's not legal) is a solid day you have to take off to get your car tested (more if you fail the test or actually have to change your exhaust), all paid for by you whilst you miss a day of work. All because your exhaust might make someoe scoff at how shit the car sounds? Meanwhile some delinquent f**k walks out of Ringwood magistrate's with a CBO. Go through a red light and the punishment is less hassle...

Alas, we are a minority and not a vocal one at that...which is why they continue to get away with it.

Things haven't changed just the excuse. If they had a sense of whats right rather than what is "what they think they can get away with at the time" then they wouldn't do stuff just because they can.

Sorry I may not have written that clear enough or you read it wrong. It is indeed about the police, most definitely. What I meant is that it is not ALL cops who do it. To suggest that all cops are scumbags is doing what the worst of them do...painting a group of people with a large brush. Gives the nice ones no incentive to continue treating us nicely, if their perception of us is that we think they are all cocks.

Of course they dropped it, they had no case. Did you try and get your money back from the impound since they dropped the charges?

It is unfortunate this system clearly benefits the people who can afford lawyers and can afford the fines. The average person doesn't have the time nor the money to properly contest such claims.

I strongly suggest people record all interactions with police. It is illegal for them to stop you. Whilst they claim they do as well, tapes get "lost".

No point trying, already wasted enough money on a lawyer, but they had no merit to impound the car. At the time tried to get CCTV footage to prove it but when I called Melbourne council just got some unhelpful smart ass.

I just finshed Night shift and impounded 2 cars overnight. One for doing 130 in 80 Zone in Unregistered car and the other one was a disqualified driver in unregistered car with dodgy plates with priors for suspended driving.

But it is to some extent the fault of the "good" police that we have this problem.

The fact the more honorable police do not speak out against police that try to do anything to get imports off the roads, lie or exaggerate claims that annoys me.

Unless police as a whole change their attitude and image, I wont change my opinion on them as a whole.

I deal with the police regularly through work, and most of them are good people, and in my experience the hoon laws in my area are only exercised under the correct circumstances (ie 180 in a 100 zone, 135 in an 80 zone, driving whilst disqualified), yet that's not to say there isn't bad apples in the bunch...

A Skyline driver saying "all cops are c***s" is no different to an officer saying "all Skyline drivers are c***s".

My argument is that the laws aren't fair in the guilty-until-proven-guilty-and-further-punished manner.

young blokes have been trying to kill themselves for thousands of years and its not going to change anytime soon... unfortunately there hasn't been a major war in a couple of generations to thin out the herd a little... cars have been and still are the main outlet for young males to express their risk taking and general manliness... whether it be in a 1L city car or a 400kw GTR they are going to try their hardest to prove their invincibility...

we need more outlets for young men to risk take... its all very well when we have a war or a dangerous job to let young guys risk their lives for us but in everyday life lets give them some room to do it in a semi safe environment and give them as much education as we can (racing tracks, driving courses etc)

its all about harm minimisation... your never going to stop the behaviour so you just have to try and limit the damage done... the P plate restrictions are a good start... if I owned my R when I was 18 I wouldn't be here today... no question

its a joke we have power poles and trees on the side of our roads for starters... harm minimisation would indicate we redesign barriers etc to reduce fatal crashes... of course this is changing infrastructure and hugely expensive... so we act like we want to reduce fatalities, as long as it doesn't cost any money;)

It pisses me off when older people in our community get outraged because a young man is risk taking (usually because they haven't been given a legal outlet... that they can afford) but the same person is all too happy for young men to do dangerous jobs that benefit them... you don't see too many old men down mine shafts or getting shot at in war zones etc

.00 for all vehicles (If a Pilot has to be .00 so must drivers)

Aged 65 license gets handed in. (If Pilots aren't aloud to fly past this age then same for cars)

Zero tolerance on repeat offenders, manadatory Jail time.

Improved safety barriers and roads in general, some roads are terrible to drive on.

Re-design of roads to improve distance between lanes and areas for cars to pull over in case of an emergency.

Driver education on how to drive a car and handle a car.

Prob a little harsh making anyone over 65 hand there license in. I think maybe driving tests every year or eye tests at a min. My dad is 64 and the safest driver I know.

I'm seriously sick of this harrasment by police, I purposly stayed home or drove another car this weekend just so I wouldnt get pulled over, not that I've been pulled over but there everywhere at the moment, cant even drive to shops without seeing someone been pulled over.

I never thought I would hate VIC but I'm F**king over the whole nanny state approach, next thing it'll be illegal to own a white car because it reflects to much light and causes to much radiant heat and you'll have to go to epa.
