Duncan
There was a serious accident on the F3 yesterday afternoon which involved one of our club members, Aaron (r34aaronw). Aaron was heading back home on the F3 near Somersby in bad weather when his car (and 2 others) were hit by a car on the wrong side of the road. Unfortunately the driver of the oncoming car died at the scene, Aaron and another driver were taken to hospital for treatment. The police have released the following statement: http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/news/latest_releases?sq_content_src=%2BdXJsPWh0dHBzJTNBJTJGJTJGd3d3LmViaXoucG9saWNlLm5zdy5nb3YuYXUlMkZtZWRpYSUyRjE3MDQ3Lmh0bWwmYWxsPTE%3D Police from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses following yesterday's fatal crash on the F3. The collision occurred about 1km south of the Peats Ridge Road on-ramp, Somersby, about 4.30pm yesterday (Monday 30 May). Early investigations suggest a silver Holden Commodore, being driven by a 52-year-old man, was travelling south when it crossed to the incorrect side of the road and collided with three other vehicles. The driver of the Commodore suffered fatal injures and died at the scene. The 38-year-old driver of a Nissan GTR suffered multiple fractures and he remains in hospital, while the 50-year-old driver of a Barina suffered a broken sternum and also remains in hospital. The third driver of a Ford was not injured. Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them at the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit on 8882 1458, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. There has been no suggestion that Aaron was anything other than unlucky in being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and it is a reminder of how dangerous road conditions can be - even for a competent driver in a good car. Everyone stay safe out there! Best wishes to Aaron and his family from everyone in SAU NSW in this difficult time. Daleo
Don't know the fellow involved,(Aaron) but wish everybody involved a speedy recovery, and of course thoughts go out to the family & friends of the gent who tragically lost his life in this terrible incident. It is sad , it may never be known whether the driver was at fault or a combination of weather conditions and this notorious road way. Keep your wits about you people. Duncan
A quick update lifted from Aaron's partner on youfacetwit: Aaron is doing well! The first op went went and he now is the proud owner of pins holding his ankle together. The next op will be on the other foot and his crushed ankle! He is in good spirits and is as well as we could have hoped for at this stage. Thank you from the both of us for all the well wishes and phone calls that i have received today, your support and words mean a lot! Cassbo
A mate of mine was one of the fireies that helped pulled Aaron out... apparently the roof needed to be cut off to get at him Still not quite sure how/why the southbound car ended up on the wrong side of the road... Pezhead
Duncan let me know that SAU has sent a care package to Aaron courtesy of Nick's delivery service. Sounds like poor Aaron might be in hospital for a little bit while they get his injuries sorted. I'll be cutting some DVD's of our club event footage over the weekend and baking some cookies to bring to him next week. Maybe I'll cut a season or two of top gear for him as well. If anyone else is interested in contributing to the second care package drop post up in this thread. Just imagine being stuck in bed and how boring that would be. What can we bring him to help him pass the time? We're a creative bunch so let's keep the ideas flowing.
