Yeah I know....but I'd be kicking myself if I turned up, paid the money and they knocked me back because of something so small :(

Ye but you can't just go and enforce one section of the rule and blatantly ignore the other. Thats just silly behaviour.

Perhaps they have just not read the regs lately or perhaps got some wording wrong as its not a logically thought out statement.

I'd be placing a fair bet that 99% of people using a harness, cannot reach their extingisher when the harness is tight.

Ash is right, unless you mount the extinguisher near your handbrake or on your door trim it will be very hard to grab it once strapped in tight.

I'd want to be out of the seat if I were trying to put a fire out...

I always lul at the Wrx sup regs where it used to say fire extinguisher must be within reach of the driver whilst strapped in the harness - dude, i can't even turn my body let alone reach for a fire extinguisher. if my car's on fire i wouldn't be staying in the harness either

last HH day with the WRX club they were whinging about my fire extinguisher being mounted in the passengers footwell, stating I must move it closer to me as the driver next time. Likewise were whinging about my CAMS compliant cage, and how the harness bar didn't stop the harnesses from slipping sideways when they're not done up ... No looking at how the cage is bolted in, sigh, just useless stuff that is not relevant once you've strapped in and the belts are tight.

LOL, gutted I would have been in for a shot at that time if I never messed with my manifold setups :( Oh well...I think this will be my last hurrah for a while as I go OS the week after and am sooo broke. But I have tyres and brakes, so can do this day pretty cheaply.

But what to do about noise :(

Matt, will that rear Racepace muffler fit in the bum of an R32?

ahh... well I think handbags has well and truly smashed that with the 1:16 he did in big red at Sandown. Don't see any of the RWD boys beating that soon!

the muffler possibly will fit, I'm not familiar with R32 exhaust layout. It has a right 90degree mandrel bend off the muffler, 3.5" all the way. Fits R34's, unsure about other models.

Lol did anyone actually read the new supp regs in regard to the fire ext. mounting? Not sure if this has come directly from CAMS (wouldn't surprise me!) but the supp regs read:

The part in question is the bit in bold regarding Grade 6 bolts. There is probably no way that the scrutineers on the day are going to check the markings on the heads of the bolts 8), but the problem is that grade 6 bolts are no longer made and herein lies the problem....The supp regs say grade 6 or greater, but the next grade of bolt is the grade 8. Sure this is a 'harder' bolt but is prone to breaking due to the brittle-ness from the treatment ie under load it is more likely to shear the head off. The lower grade 5 is the bolt used in automotive apps as it is still 'hard' but due to the lower level of heat treatment is more likely to stretch under load rather than shear.

So bottom line, I'm going to use grade 5 or 8.8 bolts....

Hi

This is inline with an upgrade that is happening to future CAMS regs and i put it in for future events at the request of our Senior Scrutineer (Dru). My feeling is that its more to stop some bad hack jobs at this stage. But it will be policed in higher grade competitions.

FIV people hate to be hit on head in an overturned car by a extinquisher that was held on by 1 self tapping screw.

(rofl I wrote the self tapping screw comment before reading all the posts)

I do understand the comments about not being able reach fire extinguisher if belts fully tightened, the thing is statements in Sup Regs actually come from CAMS.

If we dont put it like that we dont get a permit.. I assume their thinking is more for cars with street safety belts. For a dedicated track car if it was me I would put in a fire extinquisher that could be set off from a toggle in reach. I mean if i am in a car that has rolled and doors are jammed and i am upside downI want to have something I can reach.

BTW did you see the youtube of the V8 supercar fire in WA. Yah cant trust fireys.. he ran straight past the driver whose gloves were on fire to put out the car.

I mean his job is to save the driver, not the car.

BTW nice to see all your entries worship.gif

I wanted to have brand news tires for this round...

How long will it take to get CAMS license?

Unless there semi slicks then brand new tyres are about the worst thing you can take to the track...you will throw chunks of tyre tread and the car will walk around on the tread making the car feel likes its on skittles.

SO my questions is...how mnay people get booted at WRX Sanodwn days because of noise because I havent touched my car since the folly of my first session there the other week when I got booted :(

    • Nice. I'm looking forward to the updates!
    • Ayooo, been a while mates. I have a s2 r33 gtst and air stopped coming out of all the top vents.   My car has always made an actuator gear noise when turning the car on but that's a different issue I think? Did searches and am at process of thinking it's an actuator or some type of motor? I see a few different actuators and don't know which one. Would be nice to know if it was the one that's under the steering wheel so the dash doesn't need to come out.
    • Hi, just checking. Did you get this stuff made by Vspec Performance and at what price roughly? Looking into (sometime later) also getting such a intake kit, and Trust as well as HKS don't make a full set like this anymore.
