I also used rentracecar, Heide and Theo are very friendly people. My only advice in addition to the above would be to rock up at opening time as that will get you some clear laps, and if it's raining even better as like the baron said most of the guys prefer to sit in the carpark rather than risk binning it.

ahh bris. yeah I think the red one was the second alfa after I proper f**ked the first one! lol. the first one was much prettier but didn't last. second one was a bit down on power but at least held together. you were a man to take it out sight unseen onto the ring.

and yeah I wouldn't trade our spa day for a ring day. Spa was fking awesome. it took me the whole day to get into the rhythm of the circuit but when I did it was just fantastic.

as we both commented the level of driving at the private spa trackday was many times better than an open ring day too. standard of car was a fair whack higher as well.

you know I am now thinking how I can get out of this town to join you at zandvoort in august. it looks like such a cool track. how can you even contemplate going without me?!?! I thought we were friends..... carnt. >_<

I am going to find a wealthy middle aged broad to look after my needs...all will be good in my universe :)

well then you've got no hope of hooking up with nose man's woman as being barmaid I don't think she had 2 Deutsche Marks to rub together. maybe try the chick from the bach beirhaus as at least she cooks a bloody awesome strudel and pulls a cold beer. plus she seemed massively dissatisfied with her no good gambling addict bum of a husband. perhaps 2 years from now we'll see brisby in a back beirhaus sponsored scirocco driving in some euro touring car series with giant beer and strudel graphics on the side?

the renault megane R2R6 (from RSR nurburg) is another good option as even though it's manual it is in RHD so will be familiar. They are a pretty cool hatch, 250ps, 1200odd kg. should be pretty rapid around the ring in the right hands and certainly very forgiving. I very nearly hired one last time I was there but went another day in the scirocco instead.

I will echo this one.

I hired the Megane from RSR this time last year and it was a little bullet on the 'ring - Loves to rev too, I was bouncing off the limiter leaving the driveway of RSR :)

Only thing you have to watch on them is the brakes, they replace the rotors on the Megane with a retrofit from another car as the Megane RS rotors crack very easily, as a result, if you trail or ride the brakes at all, you WILL lose the brakes - The car pulls up very well but you need only jump on the brakes hard when you actually need them.

Driving the ring is an absolutely amazing experience that you will not forget in a hurry!

you will have a ball mate. there is no question.

just remember you are not going to re-set the megane track record on a tourist day (let alone your first time) so just take it easy, don't worry about your times too much. just enjoy the track, and for god's sake keep it safe. it's a track that has very little run-off anywhere, has armco all round (which they charge you to replace if you hit it) and it's very high speed in many places. add in plenty of blind corners, and plenty of sections that look the same but aren't and then add a few hundred other drivers and motorbike riders varying widely in skill and attitude and you can see why some people come to grief. don't be one of them!

you can just rock up and get something but you'll be at the mercy of whatever is available. considering you are going around a grand prix I would book something (or try to). also you need to check the track shedule. there are not many full day tourist sessions these days. track is often booked by manufacturers for testing, booked for races, booked for private track days and it's closed a good part of the year due to weather so you need to make sure it'll be open on the days you want to go. even then there is no guarantee. it might piss down with rain or snow, or they may be many accidents that keeps shutting it down.

try rent racecar. they are a good outfit. having tried haus marvin, RSR and rent racecar now I'd say they are up the top.

yeah it's the way to go. maybe try and get a scircco from rent racecar. being a golf man it will feel like home. they are a quick little bus around the ring. lots of nice upgrades in them, roll cage, endless brakes, KW suspension, I think they have some kind of exhaust too.

yeah they are definitely sportier than the equivelant golf, but from memory JAS has a diesel golf anyway not the turbo petrol so it'll be a fairly different animal anyway.

with the upgraded diff etc those sciroccos has so much grip it's not funny. you would really have to try stupidly hard to overcook one enough to crash it. you go in too hot and it just pulls you out of trouble. they are a great ring burner.

after spending a few days driving the scirocco and a fwe other cars at the ring last year I have seriously thought about importing one now that we have compliance on them in aus. you would think they are just a different looknig golf but that is selling them short. very cool car.

The Golf will try to kill you at the Ring if you try to drive one after a Scirocco...they are very different to drive at speed. I am geting an S14 checked over in the UK at the moment . I hope it checks out, 300hp S14 will be enough to get me into trouble...the drive there will be a blast as well as will be going through Spain if I get the car early enough

do it bris!! then pay haus marvin to keep it in that field with all the borken alfas and we can go and use it once or twice a year... forget RSR Nurburg, I want to use BRISBURG! for all my clapped out, death trap hire needs.
