Whoneedstherapy
why would you buy a car of that scope and have no money too maintain it ? gets me . lets see, stock GTR gearbox is about 1500-2K 2nd hand for the 5 speed, i've heard around 3500+ for the R34 6 speed, OS giken gearsets are around 5K, dog boxes between 5-10, trust six speeds were around 8K last time i checked, Hollinger's are about 20K. It's not like were talking about the $200-300 for a service here unfortunately Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/36736-tm-autosports-dyno-day/page/3/#findComment-737248 Share on other sites

APHEX_ true indeed about the gearbox prices but as i was trying too point out .... you dont go buying a 10sec GT-R thinking itll drive all day long with nothing wrong ... u gotta have the bank budget too fork out for these things, i rebuilt my engine and it cost me 10k just for rods, pistons and a computer ... lucky i could do all the mechanical work my self or it would have been more ....... i suggest maby going to pulse engineering and gettng the box chemically frozen ....just a thought . Merli
oi.if i had 400kw at all 4 and a stock gearbox i wouldnt bloody race at wsid either. I'm all for getting to the track more - but they can do what the hell they want. oi. I'm entitled to my opinion, and it's my opinion that those Autostyle cars and their engines are wasted if their owners don't race them.... Don't agree? Fine, more power to you....... But they sure seem to love having a drag on the street and public roads (I've had a certain Autostyle owner try to drag me down George St ), so don't feed me that "they're worried about their gearbox" shit Anyway............ you'd think a $100k car would come with an upgraded gearbox wouldn't you? BU5TER
oi hehehe whats with the oi's I sort of agree with Merli, whats the use in having all that power if you can only use it on a dyno, I'm not just talking about Autostyle cars though I'm talking about modded cars full stop People seem to build monster cars spending a small fortune but don't budget for the gearbox aswell, sort of a waste of time as in the end they'll always blame the fact of slower times or not racing at all on there gear box, why have such big power if you really can't use it? A quote I read in HPI once that I thought hit the nail on the head "Just because you can afford to buy a GTR doesn't mean you can afford to own one" sort of the same thing goes with modded cars in my opinion though if dyno days and all talk and no action is what does it for you, go for it as long as your happy doing what you do, each to there own I guess Brett Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/36736-tm-autosports-dyno-day/page/3/#findComment-737804 Share on other sites

wrxkilla
yeah have no problems with your opinions. Your opinion is practically my opinion too. You should be out there doing stuff in these kind of cas. I try too... Just casue they dont go to wsid doesnt mean they dont use it. not everyone likes drag... But again - its up to them... Merli
Aphex: Glad to see you've set aside a realistic budget for getting your GTR back in good shape again. It's amazing how fast those little fixes add up and clear $5000... and if the car isn't in the best shape to start off with, or you're anal like I am... an easy $10000 just to get the car back to it's former glory days. It's been said before, the cheapest part of running a big horsepower turbo is the turbo itself.... Edit: Oh and does anyone have the contact details of a cryo treating place (esp for gearboxes)?
