Definately interested too especially when my cars finished I was only talking to Jack(Mr.Untouchable) the other night about the lack of any form of car scene these days. It's sad to think that there are so many skyline/car enthusiasts out there that rarely if ever get to hang around like minded people and talk cars. We've all got a few select friends that we talk shop with but sometimes it's nice to get other peoples ideas and input other than just on here lol. I know the police presence and cracking down on organized cruises and meetups is mostly to blame but hopefully with an affiliated club we may avoid some of the harsher attention. I think that the track days zoidbergmerc has started organizing are a great start I wasnt able to make the 2nd one but I went to the first and it seems like a few more turned up yesterday? Maybe a meetup somewhere between north and south to gauge the kind of support/ numbers would also be a good start with plenty of notice so as many people as possible can make it.

yeah I've been pondering the idea too. I think we need to make a list of things that we want from the club so that we know what to aim from.

I want a club with:

CAMS Affiliation.

Enough members to make hiring the track out feasible (25+)

A club house with a work shop with hoist and enough room to store at least 6 cars.

One Cruise every two months

One track day every two months (alternating)

my thoughts on this are:

Cams affiliation is a waste of time and money. if you get a club big enough to get Cams affiliation it will take massive structure un like any of us would want to put in. if the club got Cams affiliation, to get MST (race track owners) affiliation cost thousands of dollars. so its not just as easy as filling out one form saying we want to be a car club and we want discounted rates and be affiliated with all these organisations.

whist all motorsport clubs in tas are deemed to be non-profit they have a large amount of bank money and are run just like a business as they have to deal with normal businesses as in MST and CAMS ect ect.

to run a track event of any kind requires neumerous documents to be made and sent here there and every where. i takes one person a lot of hours and corespondance to make 1 event happen. example, to run a normal club day needs to start about 8 weeks out from the event requesting things like Police permit. track permission. cams permisson and all these bits of paper work have to come and go in a particular order to make the event work. after the event there needs to be follow up paper and book work.

i know all this because my GF and i sat on a Motorsports commity for over 3 years meeting once a month min. the club we were in had a qualified accountant to run the books because its serious business.

im not trying to blow my own horn but with Ben purtells help i got the club i was in running all the norther drift events for tasmania. at the time he had aproched 2 other clubs and they had blew him off. with a fair bit of work we got it off the ground but it was far to much effort for the result so needless to say the club pulled out after 2 years and the rest is history.

to back that up. drifting tasmania is a motorsports club but they run under the HSCC banner because it simply isnt feasable to make a new club at the moment.

I looked into this a few years ago. I think we need to separate wants from needs

Needs:

Members 50+

Scrutineers

Officials (flaggies, timing...etc)

People that have time, and know how to run a business

CAMS affiliation

Motorsports Tas affiliation

SAU Affiliation

Tassie is a small place, and getting numbers to run an event is always a problem. To get people on board we need to identify what other clubs don't do well. Cause we are going to need to 'steal' members from other clubs, and people will only change if there is a benifit for them (mainly membership price/benifits...eg I'm a Light Car Club of Tas member cause it's cheap, and the Motorsports Tas affiliation gives me cheap private hire of the tracks, their trackdays are run well....but they takes aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages to start (noon usually).

I think Tassie needs a club for younger people and import owners. But it needs to be better organised that the stickers, for a start as a buisness you can't go stealing logos (even if your excuse is you assumed they were all the same), and it needs to be voted on properly not just one person picking somthing out, granted they wouldn't have ever got made if that didn't happen. It might sound harsh, but things like that can effect affiliation chances. Most of the clubs decisions will be done via voting.

I personally think Tassie needs more hillclimbs. There is other clubs running plenty of trackdays already, probably only need 3 extra during the year.

This is not somting to rush into, it needs to be planned out properly. If it is done properly it will be a great thing.

i think group entry for the motorsport events we already have is the best way to continue doing motorsport.

i think if we started a club and wanted to, say get more hill climbs the best aproch would be to join an existing club as a board member and then work hard within the club to get the events that our SAU club wants up and running.

whist SAV MAN has complained about the club he is a member of i know he has never helped that club run an event. he has helped with the running of targa and being a flagy thoe. so what that means is its people power that makes these events work.

Any chance of maybe making pamphlets that we can throw under wipers of skylines that don't have Sau stickers that we see about or something. Whether it be giving them heads up on forums or letting them know we want to start a club with details? Boost Tas member numbers? Just an idea :closedeyes:

i prpbably sound a bit arogant in saying this but id profer to have a club full of enthusists rather than people that are going to come along for 5 mins, use knolage and time then bugger off to the next fad. dont get me wrong new people are good but how about getting a good baisis then if people want to be part of the group they will come to the club rather than the club looking for members. im all for helping people learn about skylines and teaching them what i know but i dont like wasting time with people that arent interested.

the big step that a few of you guys have started by having these "SAU" track days is grate and its good to see somthing moving forward. the best part of this is that because its a very casual entry level thing there will be new people coming to every event. the one thing that is needed is the encouragement to get the drivers off the hill and onto the track. this is the one thing i think a SAU club should be about. helping people get into motorsport and inturn helping them prepare and mainatin their cars.

like Trustr32 said we all have frinds that dont circulate on here so im sure we could get a huge base anyway

so what really does everyone want.

i want a fresh new motorsport/ skyline enthusist club with a small signature (sticker) to show me other people in the club. there is enough show car/cruise/meet up groups around that anyone can take there pic so why not be somthing a bit different.

Definitely keen on getting the casual meet and/or cruise. As Damo said, track days appear to be organised and under control.

Anyone that is keen there is the HeartKids Car & Bike Show on July 3rd.

Of course they will all stop at Myrtle Park but driving on for a run through the sideling to Scottsdale and back sounds fun.

Can meet and cruise with heaps of cars to start with then ditch for some real fun.

Head out of Waverly towards Scottsdale and its a bit before you reach the Sideling. If you know the road to Scottsdale there is one REALLY tight corner that has a high bank blocking your view. Myrtle Park is on that corner.

I am the vice president of the Hobart Sporting Car Club and have some knowledge of the hoops car clubs needs to jump through to obtain affiliation with CAMS, MST etc.

Love the idea of a skyline owners club in Tassie, but in all honesty a lot of people will need to undertake a lot of unpaid work to make this happen. Getting enough members to make it financially viable will be difficult in Tassie as there are already other clubs that cater for circuit, drift, drag.

Hobart Sporting / Drifitng Tas are always open to new ideas and events. Hillclimbs, dyno days, drag events etc are great ideas but someone needs to do all the leg work.

So if any of you guys are putting your hand up, our annual general meeting is coming up in August where all HSCC members are invited to attend and can nominate to be on the committee. This gives you a voice in the biggest car club in Tassie and can help shape the future direction of motorsport in this state.

Hot off the press - Round 5 of the Tas Super Series at Baskerville on 18th September will see up to 12 interstate sports sedans coming down. This will now be a 3 day race meet with practice on the Friday.

That does sound pretty epic, you might want to throw something up in the events section so we can be reminded closer to the date and it doesn't get lost in this thread.

That sounds awsome, will the entry fee be more since it's a 3 day event? Is the 3 day event just a one off.

see what i said before. if any of you SAU guys really want an event than the quickest way to make thing happen will be to go through an established club.

on a side note of that. there is quite a few car clubs for the size of our state so making one more that does the same as the rest will only spread resources thinner.

Yeah like the RSLC organised their track day through MGCCT earlier this year. That seemed to work pretty well.

Official practice will be on the Friday with qualifying first thing Saturday morning and then solid racing all day Saturday and Sunday. Entry fees will be the same as other TSS rounds.

This 3 day event is a once off due to the increased number of cars and races in the program.

In addition the sports sedans the interstate E30 BMW guys will also be racing, plus there will be a number of handicap races for $.

Boss of Baskerville 10 lap handicap - $1000 first, $500 second $250 third. Eligible for historic touring, improved production, sports GT A,B,C.

Laurie Kelly HQ Memerial 10 lap handicap - $250 first $150 second, $100 third

Formula Vee 10 lap handicap - $250 first, $150 second, $100 third

I will post something in the events section closer to the race meet.
