R34 Led Reverse Light Conversion

Recommended Posts

Yeah the Japanese prices are complete BS, I've been working with my factory to make 'Nismo-esque' R34 brake light inserts after the amount of people preffered them instead of our unique style.....live and learn!

great reverse lights, super bright :) ...also very interested in the r34 brake lights, how long untill u have a price on these?

I'll steer her back captain! I may have got my hands on a set of reverse lamps! I'll have a play with them and see if I can get a drop-in board made (once again)

Nice work charles, looks really nice... will be a pain when the little bulbs start busting 1 at a time lol

Hey dan, whats the website for all your stuff? I remember you had some pretty nice goodies for the R33's a few years back. Would love to see your 'range' of 'stuff' now - Except the 33 is out the garage and a 34 is in.

Would you believe it, no website! But have lots of things on hand for the R33 at the moment, Dash, A/C, map lights, centre light, number plate bulbs, drop-in bulbs for the brakes and reverse lights (though actually works out a bit costly as that's 6 awesome bulbs for the R33 rear end)

Just PM if you've got specifics in mind

Man, no website to check out! When you guys decide to jump into the professional league give me a buzz! I'll help you guys out :)

Also its the R34 that could do with a few minor upgrades

OK, have pretty much the same available for the R34, just the brake light drop-ins are cheaper as it's only 2 large bulbs and a couple of smaller ones.

Charles,

What did you use to re-seal the Reverse light cover/housing when you put it back together?

Nothing lol.

Because even if the glue gets cold when you put it back together, it still bond like crazy, so by the time to push the 2 parts back together, you are going to be able to pull them apart without heating it again.

And FYI, after I took them apart, I tried to cut out as much glue as I can lol, coz it just gets too messy with the glue everywhere.

After many high pressure rinse and many days of rain, not one drop of water in the lights :)

These look great Charles!!

Any chance you could send me PM me with the details so mine can look as awesome as yours??

What would you like to know? :P

Charles, or anyone reading, any idea how this is accomplished?

Apparently, this person has his fog light wired to his headlights (RED). That changes (WHITE) when in reserve gear.

I wouldn't have a clue lol. But I think in the GTR, there's a rear fog switch on the indicator stalk, and they somehow hooked up the white LEDs to reverse light for power, so when the car is in reverse, the white lights comes on, and when they are off, the right one remains red. Not sure how they constructed the right side light. Whether it's 2 panels, 1 white 1 red or 1 panel that can change between white and red.

I know for sure that I won't have LED rear fog lights....

Did one for a GTR few weeks ago, they blinded me when I was testing them... So imagine for the people driving behind you lol.

...well I'm just wondering if you could take out the trial n' error part in helping me out with what resistors you used, I have found similar LED boards but not sure on the dimensions of the ones you used... Any info you're willing to share would be greatly appreciated Charles

Hey guys,

Since some of you liked my front lip DIY, I thought I'll post up another DIY that I did tonight. This time is my rear reverse light, spent about 3 hours on this.

Since I changed my right reverse light for a fog light, I've notice I can barely see when I'm reversing during night time, as I'm only left with one light, so I thought I'd brighten things up with 96 LEDs :D

Luckily, I found myself a pair of 2nd hand reverse lights to stuff around with.

Here's some pics of the process:

I opened up the reverse light housing

img1191gu.jpg

Connected two 48 LED panels together

img1192f.jpg

img1193iv.jpg

Connected the T10 end to the plug

img1194i.jpg

img1195x.jpg

img1196zd.jpg

Made a surround/backing for the LED panels (yes it's a half dodgy job lol)

img1197h.jpg

Because I wanted white light, not yellow light, I thought I'd try and clean the lens a bit lol.

Started to wet sand it with 1200

img1199o.jpg

img1200zs.jpg

Finished it off with 2000 and a polish and BAM! The crap is off.

img1201bt.jpg

Put the brand new looking lens back on

Due to the time now, I haven't had a chance to put it back onto the car. But I don't think I'll convert my rear fog light to LED, as it's definitely gonna blind people behind me lol.

Hey mate was just wondering how you got the lense off the lights, just purchased the lights and currently waiting on the LED panels to arrive :) and info would be much appreciated! Cheers

75 degrees c in the oven for 15 minutes, swift hands with a flate bladed screw driver to pop the bkac clips (they will be soft and very easy to move), pry the lens in a perfectly vertical position about 20cm....alow the glue to cool, then carry on, prevents any sticking to the inside of the lens and breaking out the shellite to clean the crap off. If the glue starts to cool too quickly, stop what you're doing and put them back in the oven for round two. Have your calm pants on that day.

    • I'll snap up some photos when I'm back home, in the office today meeting my "in the office" quota. Have 2x Teams calls scheduled in, office culture they reckon.   I've never owned a proper off the shelf sub, I've always made or modified broken ones with Jaycar plate amps and/or car subwoofer drivers. The current (and broken) subwoofer has a proper home driver in it, Dayton driver, thos one https://www.daytonaudio.com/product/118/rss265hf-4-10-reference-hf-subwoofer-4-ohm FS of 25Hz, which is low but not low enough. Yeah, I think they were brought out to the market to compete with SVS. I would love a SVS PB-3000 but they're not cheap, especially after their price hike. From reviews online, it does look like the Tonewinner D6000 would destroy and with good amount of money saved too.
    • yeah, that happens too.  I'm really enjoying 4WDing at the moment, seen a few beautiful spots and want to go explore more of this enormous country.  The 370Z got a clutch LSD in it and a track day, great fun.  Getting the back end sorted out really rejuvenated my enthusiasm for driving it hard, the viscous one is poo especially in such a short and wide chassis.  The VLSD unpredictability was more benign in a long and skinny Skyline.
    • With my pre/power I use a remote trigger cable(3.5mm jack each end). I turn tv on, it turns both on via ARC. Or, just the pre with the remote or its streaming software, turns on both. Not that difficult at all. Obviously,  you would also want to actually update/upgrade over other factors in your life(bills, family, other hobbies, etc)
    • Yeah, nightfall was very "meh". And I'm crap at pvp, so feels like everyone has cheats(it's just my lack of skill). Final shape has been pretty good. New raid and dungeon are pretty good. If you want to give it a go, probably wait until it's on sale. But, as usual, most of it feels very familiar.
    • This morning was Kingswood's Microscopic Wars. It is the album's 10 year anniversary this year and we went to see them play the whole album as a special show a couple of months back. Was pretty spectacular.
