A friend of mine has a sick Sky :D

My brother (Who is a AutoSparky) is trying to fix an R31 with a 5 amp voltage drop from the battery with all fuses etc off.

He has asked me to find out if anyone has found this problem.

And

If anyone has a wiring loom diagram?

He suspects the loom has a kink or is squashed and told me that with a loom diagram it would make his job mush more easy.

So any info would help, the car is owned by a single mum with kids and she is desperate and has been taken to the cleaners by Mechanic's. One just replaced the battery and the other replaced the alternator.

There's no such thing as a "5 amp voltage drop"

Its like saying your engine produces 500 newton meter kilowatts.

If the car is sucking 5 amps of power when turned off then you have something draining the power. 5 amps at 12 volts is 60 watts so whatever it is should get pretty warm/hot.

What you can do is selectively pull out fuses till the current stops being drawn then you can follow where that fuse goes and rectify the problem.

Edit - doh! I didn't see the bit you had already pulled the fuses out :(

In that case it should be dead easy to track where the short is, quite simply, the main power line from the battery goes to the fuse area to the mega sqaure loom above it and to the starter motor and alternator. Disconnect the last two and if it drops off, you've found your problem and ditto if it doesn't drop off.

What Bozz said is right that is a big current draw....

60 watts is the sort of power a single light globe uses on high beam, so trace the wire from the batt to the fuse box, (if i remember, this is a auto-electricans nightmare, bloody jap cars are made for jap hands...)

Have fun, but remember dont do anything dodgy cause electrical faults cause car fires, and you dont want this. Other than for insurance reasons.

i've got a low current drain also from various things. what i did was disable my alarm system and then hook a 10A multimeter between the + terminal and the battery plug which sounds like what you did. make sure all your accessories etc are off and nothing running (otherwise more than 10A will blow up the multimeter) and then i've been pulling out fuses/fusible links etc and measuring the power consumption of each item removed

the diagram will help - i can tell you the continous power goes to the trip computer, eccs and HECS (hybrid electric control system for stuff light auto dimming on the door light). so start from the fusible links next to your battery and pull all those, then try the fuse box next
