Late Friday night I was giving my skyline a run down the Calder Freeway in Melbourne after a bunch of young guys in a VT Clubsport started throwing shit at my car from their ride and after this heated exchange of on the freeway I came to a stop at the lights near my house.

1st gear change into second and 'BOOOOM!!!" turbo exploded!!

I have the car at TVP Performance today in Carlton and they said the shaft has broken.

Do you think I need a new turbo or is there a viable option of repair??

This is not what I need right now as I have just put a deposit for an overseas holiday. If anyone has a spare RB25 Turbo lying around let me know!

I spoke to the owner of the performance shop it is in this morning and he will by titainium shafts and rebuild and highflow the turbo by around a thousand. He reckons this is the best way to go as the turbo will hold alot more boost and spool about 300rpm quicker than standard. I hate spending money on getter the car back to the way it was so I would rather spend a little more and make it quicker.

Oh, he is also trialing a new American air/fuel computer that he believes works as good if not better than the Apexi AFC and he said it takes only 30 minutes to install and is considerably cheaper so if you are interested I should send some business his way so he looks after me

How can it be considerably cheaper than a 33 PowerFC.. They can be had for around 1k these days. +$500 worth of tuning and your off.

Remember the japs have been in the game with RB's a LOT longer and have the idle/cold start etc maps 100%!

Remember people will always flog off what they sell. Some also have a lot of trouble tuning the powerFc's.

He isn't selling a full engine management system. Just the air/fuel computer. I understand that Apexi have a fantastic rep world wide for delivering quality parts however with such market power it is nice to see someone else marking essentually the same thing just cheaper

Well he is being really quiet on the price but his initial estimate was around the $1000-$1500 back on car and tyno tuned.

I just called a friend of mine that has a near brand new R34 turbo (19,000km) for $800. Is this turbo any better than my R33 or will it f&^% up as well?

QuickR33Melb,

Be carefull with piggy back fuel/ignition computers.

They can only adjust fuel/ignition mixtures a certian amount.

When you start making over 220rwkw you will run in to problems and be forced to go out and buy a full engine management (powerfc).

Couple of quick questions..

Can it run a Z32 AFM?

Can it run bigger injectors?

Can it alter the switch on point of VCT?

Seriously do it properly the first time for the extra couple hundred dollars it may cost.
