Is there anything we can do to help reduce the number of poor police officers?

I'm not complaining about being pulled up by every RBT or anything... I'm more talking about the police like the highway patrol today who went out looking for modified cars to defect; then showed no mercy.

I feel like they need to be told that they're giving the other top cops a very VERY poor name... People giving good officers crap because they got pulled over by a bad one the other week... I just want it to stop.

you can't blame police for people having modified cars. sure they might have been showing no mercy, but if people didn't have illegal mods then they wouldn't have anything to defect. it's a bit of a chicken vs egg situation. as long as people are doing illegal mods to their cars then there will be police out to book them for it. also, don't forget that the cops usually have targets set by some pencil pusher that they have to meet or they get disciplined.

If your car is legal and roadworthy they cannot defect you, if you modify your car and dont get it engineered you will be defected, too many cars out there that are dangerous, over powered under braked, panels held on but cable ties and bald tyres, if you dont want a defect then get your car sorted.

And dont cry poor, the $1000 dollars it costs to get your car safe and legal isnt alot of money, a set of tyres cost more.

A better question would be "what can we do to stop dangerous drivers and cars" the less dangerous cars and drivers on the road the better.

I'm keen to know all your opinions on this one...

LOL, linky is broken me thinks

I disagree. They can defect you, it just wont stand up to scrutiny. Doesn't mean you wont be inconvenienced by the process of clearing it.

Remember, cops are not automotive engineers, and they may not know the details of the legislation well. If they have a hunch you have something defectable, there's no reason for them not to write it up as there's no real downside for them. So its best not to be a jerk when you get pulled over :)

I know what your talking about. You want to be able to modify your car

and enjoy it without fear of an officer giving you a fine and demerit points.

Like the others have said, you need an engineers certificate, or move to Dubai.

Whether the cops targeted them or not guy got what he deserved. Saw the cop, cop hit the lights and still runs.

Not too impressed with the police driving the way they did either but end of the day they were enforcing the law.

As for swearing woopty doo. I would be the same. Cops just after some excitement and they got it.

1. cops on patrol

2. bike mucking around

3.bike doing 87kph in a 50kph zone?

4.does the runner

5.cops have blues and twos on

6.bike jumps gutter

7.still doing runner in a 50kph zone

8. cops pushing through lights as do ambos and fire brigade

What I saw was a video of the cops at work chasing a bike that done the runner, there was some script in the video trying to make excuses about the cops swearing but not commenting on the illegal and dangerous antics of the bike.

At one point they said they were not breaking the law, except for the noise pollution laws, WTF, LOL.

My bike is noisy as I find it is safer that way but I dont gas it up and down the road and then do a runner if I get caught.

Do the crime and do the time I say, but then its easier to blame others for our own mistakes it seams.

The bike doing the runner has risked the lives of himself, anyone the bike hit if he crashed, and the cops and other punters in the way.

Ive been pulled over and when they start looking around I pull out the engineers cert and say yes that mod is legal and would they like to have a look at the cert, which they do, they check my sticker make a radio call and then I go on my merry way, easy as.

I like the idea of the police getting crap cars of the street, make me feel a bit safer, all they need to do now is get rid of the crap drivers.

Not that i am proud of it- far from it actually, but i got chased on my r6 when i was 19. The cop said he clocked me @ 220 just before i stopped, and i also went through 2 red lights on the highway (one with a paddy wagon holding back traffic) and he still got close enough to get my number plate, so i stopped. Was a 7km chase, and obviously he broke all sorts of laws chasing me down. Because of this, he backed off the charges to orange lights and 180km/h. The thing is, as a young idiot motorcycle rider i thought i couldnt be caught and ran anytime they tried to stop me. If he hadnt done what he did i would have killed myself, and most probably others. Also, if you are going to be a f**kwitt like i was, then you CANNOT complain about others endangering the public. Its not like i could stand up in front of the judge and speak of the wrongdoing the police did.

Also i tend to agree with what the others have said about getting an engineers certificate. Most police i have encountered are really great blokes if you are not a dick or a smartass (including the one who chased me on my bike) and if you dont have illegal mods, in MOST cases you dont need to worry. Obviously their are exceptions, but the majority are just doing their jobs trying to protect the public from idiots with shitty mods, driving like wankers. (Also i should point out, the road the police chased me on was a highway, only two sets of traffic lights, one had a paddy wagon holding back traffic and in the whole 7km chase we only overtook 14 cars. It COULD be perceived that what the cop did wasnt all that dangerous.)

The one thing i disagree with cops doing is holding back and hoping for you to do stupid shit. The cops should have pulled them over immediately eg for putting hands out and legs and driving dangerously. Cops secretly want you to run so they can chase and have a reason to treat the roads like a go kart track all for the reason of "chasing down".

Stupid bike rider =P, always check behind for a commodore or falcon before having a lil fun on the roads....

Abuse of power by the law, they had his plates.

So if your car was stolen and the cops had the plates its OK for them to call of the chase so the theives can strip your car in the comfort of a garage somewhere ?

And if they just go by plates, they wont get the drunks, people who have just committed a crime (may have evidence of the crime on them), etc. Doing a runner is very sus - the police have to chase, otherwise any crim knows all he has to do is run and he's only going to get done for running, rather than something more serious.

Running the plates means nothing, Ive had 2 cars and 1 bike stolen, it was hours before I knew they had been pinched and I was able to report the theft.

Actually when they pinched my bike I was away with work and it was a month before I got home and opened up my garage to find it gone.

I echo this sentiment exactly. And who cares about swearing? I curse like a sailor at work, why is it different for police when they're in the privacy of their HWP car?

In this situation they were stalking these guys and waiting for them to slip up, so I dont think that was very neccessary to drive on the wrong side of the road and push traffic into a red light on a busy intersection just over someone who dicking around on a bike.

    • Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers
    • Do Alan and Keith work on Skylines now? I remember buying stuff from them when I owned my Ralliart Lancer a few moons ago. Definitely genuine guys and be excellent if they dealt with the skyline platform as well.
    • Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
    • I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.
    • Engines and drivelines are not war stoppers for me mate, busted arse bodies and un-obtainium parts and panels are though Both cheap Brumbies I looked at had trashed tubs and a fair bit of rust
