hi, im new to owning a skyline, just picked up a 1996 series 2 r33 gtst and was wondering if this was the normal operation of skyline headlights? i was adjusting my head lights an realized that my low beams were off when my highs were on, any info would be handy

Yes it's normal and as far as I know it technically can be a defect. Pretty easy to wire it up to get both low and high beams going at the same time if you are really worried

cheers mate good to know, thanks for the help.

Yes Skylines from factory swtich off your low beam when you switch to high beam.

Legally your low beam is required to stay on when you switch to high beams. It's more from a safety aspect. (Think if your high beams weren't working and you didn't know about it. You are driving at night time on a dark road at 100km/h with your low beams on. You switch to high beam and BAM, no light! Not very safe.)

However most places don't care/know about this so most people don't have problems with police/RWC/defect stations etc.

So really unless you want to do the wiring mod for your own personal choice it usually is not required.
