My car is down at the tuners(yay) and got a call at 8:47am today. I asked them to fit my injectors on and change my fuel filter. I was then asked what fuel did I use. I said 98 Vortex. He said are you sure its not E10? I'm like dead set 100%, Ive got the receipt. Then he said the fuel is clear and not the usual colour of 98. This scared me and also made me angry as I have been filling up at the station down the road for ages. He said don't worry we will test the fuel to make sure it is what it is and if there are any issues we will call you back. I still haven't(and hope not to) got a call back.

Would it be fair to say that with the small amount of fuel trickling from the fuel line is not enough to see its colour? Ive had fuel squirt here and there before(when changing the pump) and it has always looked clear. Only when taking a large amount did it get that yellowish tinge to it. If it does turn out to be E10 fuel, I am really going to lose my temper at this petrol station and demand compensation. Ive got receipts and when you test fuel I am sure it can be traced to the supplier of the fuel.

Will this petrol station be held responsible if it is in actual fact E10 fuel coming out of the Vortex 98 tank?

Is my theory likely? That in small amounts its not enough to show colour? I also never thought E10 was clear, fuel has always been coloured(Its dyed apparently). Any input or comments are welcome.

Yeah, I am pretty sure you can sue the station and its name with the consumers rights. They advertised it as 98, so there's no reason for E10 fuel to be there, unless you used some other service station.

Good luck.

I thought Advan sold wheels and tyres? xD

Probably he meant his tuner shop name.

Advan Performance not Advan wheels lol.

Well I haven't got a call back and I was just looking at the fuel in our can down stairs(98 and 91). In small amounts they look identical. Hopefully all is fine because I really don't want to have to do anything more.

My brother changed his fuel filter in his EVO a few weeks ago, the Caltex 98 that leaked out was a clear/yellowish colour.

I don't know how one can tell the octane of a fuel by the colour... I had the understanding that petrol was colourless until additives were added to it.

Sure did....

They really need to run it up on a dyno, the timing that 98 can take vs 91 will make it immediately obvious.

I got a bad batch of fuel that almost destroyed a brand new motor...and Shell stonewalled me. Their "investigation" found no issue. And as I didn't suffer financial loss, Fair Trading had no interest

    • Went looking at mine, reading off the tyre, presumably these are 1st week of 2003. Still hold air (I haven't had to pump them up in over 12 months!)     I couldn't quickly find the date on the front tyres, they were fitted around 2008 to the rims, so probably not quite as old, but they have a lot more dry rot cracks in them. Still hold air.
    • I am now intrigued to go check the dates on the tyres on my Skyline... We need a game of who has the oldest tyre still holding a car up, and successfully holding air (for longer than a 2 weeks I feel is successful air holding).   I feel your tyres may be beating mine
    • Ok, still waiting for a date to get the cams installed on the MX5, why so long, because MX5 Mania has received a few new sets of different cams with different specs for the MZR and are currently trialling them, and working out what is best for 2.5 "powers" with stock internals, in the end if I go bigger than the Kelford stage 1 cams I'll need to look at the valve springs  Hopefully I'll get the news on them next week As for the boot of the car getting fixed, I hopefully pick it up early next week, I was sweating on picking it up yesterday but, meh, it was not to be, so ne weekend cruising for me
    • Ok got some old tyres for you guys...my car has been sitting around un-driven for about 6 years now. I had it on the original rims with the shitty compliance tyres it got it with back in 2006, which were manufactured in 2004... Sidewalls eventually rotted and split open, obviously no air in them and the rims were holding the car up. Just swapped them with some 17" Work rims and tyres which are probably 10+ years old too but at least holding air
