Well its more or less understood that Redline lightweight shockproof is the oil of choice for our aged gearbox, but I would like to know through experience what is the estimated life(km) before changeout is necessary.

I'm going on 20,000kms and I think i'm up for a change

Share your experiences pls.

NB. This is NOT to debate on which oil is better for your gearbox....there are countless threads on that already!

f**k leaving oil in there for that long. It's cheap enough (the oil) compared to the price of a gearbox. I go on every 20,000km for gearbox and diff oils for daily drivers. Track cars get done every 5,000km just to make sure they are ok

Ford also don't reccomend to service their automatics, people that follow that find the units failing early. IMO the oil is cheap enough, so it doesnt hurt to change it sooner than reccomended

it very well might though, given the way additives work and the fact that you are more then likely cleaning off the nice layer of protection the fluid gives you when you drop it.

You probably aren't allowing the transmission fluid to do its job properly with such frequent change intervals.
