Hi all, i've been dabbling into getting an entirely new suspension setup and have my eyes on the HKS Hypermax 2 coilover kits. My ride is an R32 GTST with an RB25DET running a GCG Stage 2 450HP turbo, etc. A mate of mine has an adjustable HKS setup (not Hypermax an older version) which is probably the best handling setup i've ridden so far in terms of a street car. I'm currently running non adjustable Nismo lowered springs and Bilstein shocks. This is fine for the street and quite comfortable...not too harsh at all. I also have a set of aftermarket Jap springs (no idea what brand) that pretty much give me neutral chassis balance in corners. With the Nismo springs i have quite alot of body roll...handles like a whale. The jap no-name springs however bring the ride to borderline annoying and very stiff (probably more suited to track...and makes my car lowered to the shithouse).

I know HKS make a Hypermax Performance series of coilovers too (just to be confusing) But i'm assuming these are more suited to track...

More details. With the stiffer lower springs i had traction problems in my car as it is pumping out in the vicinity of over 200kws at the wheels. My rears are Falken Azenis 255/45's and fronts are some Continental brand 225/40's (The tyre difference is playing havoc with my Hicas too) So i guess i am also wondering whether i should retain my current setup or try the HKS one, would this make a difference in terms of traction probs or would i have to sacrifice this in the pursuit of better handling?

Does anyone have the HKS setup or similar...just would like to know how the adjustable coilovers of this particular brand would do? Or are they too harsh for a street ride. I'd still like to retain some sort of comfortability and not feel every bump on the road but would like my handling to be A LOT better. Perhaps some comparisons would be good too...alongside Whiteline & other packages available, etc....

Anyway any help would be great - cheers.

Hi, the job of the spring is to hold the car up, absorb the compression loads and allow extension to make the tyre follow the road surface. Too high a spring rate lessons the tyre's contact with the road. It is not the job of the spring do other things, like limit the roll, that's the job of the anti roll bars. Likewise, it is not the job of the spring to limit the front end dive under brakes or the rear end squat under acceleration, that's a job for the anti dive and anti squat suspension geometry.

So I would strongly suggest a set of stabiliser bars, this will fix the roll. Adjustable ones if you want to tune the balance. If you seek an even higher level of handling themn I suggest the Whiteline Handling Package is for you.

Hope that helps

Hi all, i've been dabbling into getting an entirely new suspension setup and have my eyes on the HKS Hypermax 2 coilover kits...............

Hey, I posted something in the "General Auto" section (probably should've been here) but it is on my Hypermax Coil-overs...I had heaps of probs with this set-up, because I'm just a road user not a clubber. System is extremely high quality but really noisy!!! you'll see my post by me...'superspit' see if it helps!!

Mark.

Cool, thanks for the info SydneyKid, have been getting a lot of nudges towards the Whiteline kit actually..

Superspit - yeah thanks man, i was actually reading the other thread. Looks like the HKS setup might be a tad stiffer than I actually want. Our roads don't seem to be as good as Japan's super smooth highways!
