Overheating?

hi guys i have an 97 r33 gtst and have had it for 7 years now.

i am having problems with overheating at this moment and am wanting to sell the car soon as its time to go for money for wedding and honeymoon savings.

i can drive it around town no worries and its all good has been for ages although when ever i take it on a long drive say 30 to 40 mins into the drive my temp gauge starts to rise and rise.

anyone else ever had this problem or know where to first start looking or what the problem could be. want to get it fixed before selling

just checked after today and radiator fluid went down heaps. signs there must b a leak i am guessing.

could it b related to head gasket? what are signs ?>\

no milky in oil at all. no white smoke

any other signs??

First look at coolant level in radiator and in the coolant recovery bottle. Get a new cap with the correct pressure cos they are cheap and are an integral part of the cooling system. Then chuck a new thermostat in it. A thermostat is only $12 trade or about $16 to $20 retail. New coolant wouldn't go astray either seeing as it's likely very old and you'll lose a bit when you swap the thermostat. Also as you'll have the cooling system somewhat apart, you should flush out your radiator and block. While you're under the bonnet just check all your cooling system hoses for cracks/leaks etc. You're going to sell it so don't go overboard replacing stuff but if any hoses are incredibly squishy/soft or hard and cracking its better to sort them out now rather than have them break while you or the new owner are driving. Heater cores can leak as well but try all the other stuff first and let us know how you go. Good luck mate

thanks mate yeh thermostat ive heard a few pple say hey and radiator cap is original one so really could need a new one i guess hey. yeh not wanting to go overboard at all as due to selling it.

got car from mechanics today and he said he checked all the cooling system and pressure tested it and everything was fine and replaced radiator cap as it had a leak.

but tested it out tonight and yep straight away after being on the highway for a bit the needle started to rise again. so did the usual pulled over and could hear bubling??

any opinions

really wanting to sell soon should i just put it up for sale and let no about problem and see if any one should want to buy it. but how much should i sell for with a problem

if the system has no leaks then the problem is going to either be a blocked radiator or shagged water pump as the 2 main possible causes

My '32 did this for a while and i replaced a heap of stuff. it turned out to be a blocked radiator so i got 52mm triple core ally one and it has not moved since. also heard that if your car hasnt been bled correctly after refilling the radiator coolant it will overheat.
