Gday all, Im a new member. I have an A31 cefiro and Ive just about finished putting together an rb20 to go in it. My motor is out having other work done on it and Im trying to fit the turbo before the motor goes in to make things easier. Ive bought a brand new Garrett GT2871R 48 trim and 0.64 rear housing. As you probably know these do not come in T3 flange type but T25 flange so I bought an adaptor so that I can fit the turbo to my standard exhaust manifold.

I had to rotate the front (intake) housing to fit the motor but I dont know which direction to point the outlet to. I cant point it straight up(standard position) as the wastegate actuator gets in the road, looks like I have three options being either horizontal towards inside of passenger inner guard, partially downwards towards inner guard or straight down towards crossmember. Does anyone know if any of these angles will fit with enough room to get a 90 degree elbow to head towards the fmic? If you have this turbo which way does your outlet point

Thanks for any help you can provide

Have a good look at your engine bay, see what gear is running along the LHS chassis rail (eg aircon lines, power steer lines, charcoal cannister lines) and see what room that leaves you to play with.

Presuming the compressor outlet is 50mm, I'd run the piping in that size for ease of packaging it all together, and then shoot the outlet downwards. It wouldn't be (very) hard to push over to link up with the intercooler hookup coming through the guard at that point.

I hope you have a bit of clearance between that turbo and strut tower, the adaptor looks like it's pushed things over nearly 40mm which is quite a bit. Highly recommend some heat shielding to prevent frying the loom in that area.

Good work, be great to hear/see the results of installation and running.

Thanks for the reply fellas, the adaptor is 45mm thick - it was the shortest I could find. It almost has to be about that thick as the T25 flange stud holes would touch the inside of the T3 pattern stud holes otherwise.

I was hoping someone might already have this setup so I could get it right before putting the motor back in.

What did you mean exactly Dale by

"It wouldn't be (very) hard to push over to link up with the intercooler hook.up coming through the guard at that point."

Did you mean point the outlet straight down towards the chassis rail and then head forward or did you mean put the intercooler pipe out through the inner guard (the turbo is almost directly in line with the strut tower).

The power steering reservoir is mounted to the front side of the passenger side strut tower but possibly could be relocated with longer hoses.

thanks again for you input fellas

Yes. You may well find that the relative installed height of the turbo and the down-then-forward facing elbow/pipe will be pretty well aligned with the pipework where it runs through the bodywork. Nothing is ever "easy" but some jobs don't have to be that hard.
