Equipped with my 1000kw upgrade (Cat Back Exhaust and Pod Filter) I wanna go out to WSID this Wednesday, but I have NEVER run on a 1/4 mile strip. It is a GTSt btw.

What I'm asking is what light do you launch at?

What type footwork do you do? (Pedal action, please dont give me smart ass comments, im a NOOB)

And lastly, should I even bother running a near stock R33 GTSt?

1/ Let your tyres down to 20psi....15psi is better.

2/ Don't worry about a big burnout as it does s.f.a for street tyres.

3/ Rev it and hold it at about 5krpm.

4/ Slip the clutch till you get grip (usually less than a second) then get all the way off it and floor the thing.

5/ Get through the gears as quick as you possibly can, revving it to about 7krpm.

6/ You should be *just* into 4th across the line if you've revved it hard enough.

7/ Don't worry AT ALL about what the person in the other lane is doing, when they launch, how hard they take off or if you leave them at the line.

8/ You should try and concentrate on getting the launch right more than anything else as just about all the rest is exactly like flogging it on the street.

9/ Ignore your reaction time.

10/ Try and learn from each run and put what you learn into the next run.

And if you don't run your "near stock" r33 gtst, how will you know if your future mods are working? :D Good luck and most importantly, have fun.

Damn straight you should...

If nothing else it will give you a benchmark figure to compare to in the future after more mods.

Oh and I do believe it is quite good fun too.

Street Drags don't count the reaction time, the 1/4 mile stopwatch starts when your front wheels move to when your front wheels cross the finish line. You could actually sit on the start line (with a green light) for 15sec if you wanted to (to let the other car disappear) and -then- go and it wouldn't ruin your time.

With staging... move slowly towards the little globes/lights on the tarmac (in the center and also the outside of the lane), as your front wheels break the line the first staging light will come on. Move forward a bit more and the 2nd staging light will appear and then hold it there. Once both cars have the top 2 staging lights appear the 3 ambers will light up. You can pretty much launch soon as the last amber lights up because by the time you react it will already be green. Don't stop until you have passed the big scoreboards at the other end too!

What type footwork do you do? (Pedal action, please dont give me smart ass comments, im a NOOB)

I stage first (before the other car) so that I can get myself settled (feet on the pedals comforfably, good vision of everything, helmet sitting ok etc). I then hold the revs at 3,000-3,500rpm steady, soon as the last amber lights up I just drop the clutch and it hooks in (my last ~6 60ft times have pretty much always been 2.1sec).

And lastly, should I even bother running a near stock R33 GTSt?

Of course you should. A 14sec (which is 99% what you will run) is still pretty damn quick for a street car! I personally dont think a street car is "really quick" until its doing 12.9sec or better but hell even a 14 flat is still 100mph.

hrmm just realised 2rismo basically said what I was gonna say.

Dont worry about:

* your times (just worry about getting to the finish line in 1 piece)

* the car beside you

* your gearbox :D

* doing a burnout

* your tyre pressure (unless you are aiming for 11's dont bother)

Have fun !

What car will you be driving? I'll be there (spectating) so i'll come say g'day.

Im drive a Black R33 with GTR Front Bar, Grill and Trial Rear Bar and Stocker Boot Spoiler and 18" Shadow Chrome wheels. I probably wont run it at tomorrow's meet but I'll definitely be there to watch due to insufficient funds hehe

I have to have enough petrol to run to Wollongong everyday for uni.

Aren't 5krpm launches too much for a GTS T or do they bog down like GTRs if revs are too low.

5krpm is fine. Any less and they can bog down. It's especially good if your tyres are let down and spongey! :D GTR's don't bog down. The drivers just don't know what they're doing!! :(:D

Adrian

your tyre pressure (unless you are aiming for 11's dont bother)

WHAT?!?!?!?

Ridiculous statement. Back to drag school with you now!!! It definitely helps as evidenced by thousands of people that run much faster than you and I, Ben. It made a stark difference to my launch and I have watched footage of myself for a lot of runs (ok only about 10 to 15) to confirm this.

Adrian

Well i've personally seen no difference at all between 38psi and 20psi and also comparing times on my 1/4 Mile List it doesn't really prove that lower psi = lower 60ft times.

Your personal experience also shows that a car making over 200rwkw can run slower than stock. At least you're consistant. :devfu:

On the subject of your 'SAU 1/4 Mile Times' list, I would draw your attention to the number one runner in EVERY SECTION that is running 13.0's or quicker. (Using your own definition of what makes a quick street car). The people running the times have the best idea on how to run them. QED.

R31's - 20psi

R32 GTS-T's - 16psi

R33 GTS-T's - 20psi

R33 GTR - 16psi

R34 GTR - 17psi

Why then are the fastest Skylines in THE WHOLE COUNTRY running 20psi or less?

The majority of all 'slicked-up' cars at the drags run between 7psi and 12 psi. This is the obvious extreme but to say that it makes no difference in ordinary street, radial tyres is just plain silly.

To get into specifics of my own, my 60' times INSTANTLY dropped to 2.00's from high 2.1's and 2.2's JUST by dropping the tyre pressure to 11psi from 20psi. And all this on tyres that are designed to run more like 46psi and go flat out AROUND a track all day.

In the end it's up to the reader to decide but as always, I take my advice from people that have run times quicker than myself and almost universally have much more experience than myself.

Adrian

butthead are you asking about GTR's or GTST's as we've only got a lowly gtst's

buster your lowly gtst only does 11.7 &128mph, thats a piss poor effort

lol  .......     Just shitting ya

hehehe I know mate I was just teasing aswell
