Hello everyone, Hope you lads are all ok.

I have a question related to the limited edition cars out there any of which i have a example of a situation of ?

http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/145323-v-spec2-nur-collectors-item-2.html#post1386410

In saying this the said car is going to have a 24U block from Nissan installed and the car is going to be up and running .

But i keep getting emails from this one guy stating the car is no longer a Nur spec and is no Longer limited edition because it doesnt have the original block ?

Im not sure how to take this but this said person is telling me to install a grt32 engine in the car and sell it as quickly as possible because he feels it fit to do so lol??

Any ways after reading the link to gtr.co.uk what makes a car limited edition car ?

Is replacing the engine block with a new engine block from Nissan japan with a 24U N1 unit keeping the norm and making sure the car still retains its "Limited edition status"

Baring in mind the owner "me" still has the original block with the hole in the side which can be sold with the car if i ever do sell ? but i have decided to keep it and build it back to a standard spec or using a N1 block as a basis ?

Please let me know your thoughts and comments would like to see how australians take it and what approach aussies have over the English lol.

Cheers

adam

In my opinion. Any collectors item/car should be left to be as standard as possible and with as little use aswell.

Just like old comic books or figurines. Sealed in their boxes.

Obviously very hard to do with a car.

Keep the original engine, but definitely try to get it back to what it use to be. Not a r32 gtr engine.

94 at best engine in a 01+.

It's the same as a respray or doing other mods, it will lose money in the long run, though I don't think that is would be collected to make money anyway, depreciation is a big factor for these cars now, it would be collected for the love of the car.

That guy sounds like a bit of a jerk. Yes, get an N1 block and use as many of the original parts as possible. If you do sell, state the history around the motor. The only important opinion then is how the prospective buyer sees it.

Put it this way, my N1 has been converted to Nismo R1 specs. I'd love to see what the trainspotters on GTROC make of it.

On the one hand it's one of 18 VS2 N1s, but it has been bastardised by getting 'aftermarket parts' put on it, making it worth less.

On the other, sending it to Nismo Omori has made it one of two R1/N1 combos ever built, making it worth more.

In the end it's up to the buyer.

As a prospective buyer, I'd be interested in a rare car's story (and provenance) more than its originality. N1 blocks can easily be put back on if the new owner wants to do so - in my opinion, a Nur is a Nur.

The bloke emailing you is a knob ;)

Lol i love the response.

And i appreciate your comments.

MrStabby i have been through alot please dont rub my face in the dirt, lol its me im the one who wanted to sell the car, and Nine is the guy emailing me telling me the car isnt worth anything any more because its been trashed.

Honestly, i have been through thick and through thin i have and share the same passion as all the gtr owners around the world, including the owners on skylinesaustralia.

The cars are the best simply put.

And all i want is to enjoy my car, i want to be a part of the crown again, call it peer pressure.

i miss have a Nissan skyline, yes its there parked in the garage but its not a skyline with out a engine.

Its been a long road, and at the end of it all i have had many a misfortune, ran bearings, rodded a block thanks to a previous engine builder no sweat racing from johannesburg south africa, and well here i am wanting to build my own engine something i never dreamt of beacause i thought there was always going to be a engine builder i could trust.

But in theory there isnt so i would rather learn myself and build myself so that i can be proud and in the loop.

And at the and of it all i can help other skyline owners build there engines .

I am going to throw a gtr Nur spec block in 24U all the way.

Thanks again all .

Adam

Im in 2 minds about the whole thing, I have always looked at things as if I wanted to mod the car you get a run of the mill skyline (GTS-T or GTR) and if you wanted to spend abit extra upfront and not mod it you go for the limited edition. Take the R32 GTR V-Spec II, I know there is more numbers then a NUR R34 but when one pops up for sale and its missing the BBS rims the first question people always ask is where are the BBS rims and then it carries over to other things. At the end of the day as long as you can provide the original items with the car when time comes to sell people really can't complain. Also the reason I said I am in 2 minds is from reading what Kristian posted about his car..... I think I just creamed a little with that story and if I was pro bank robber I would be knocking down his door throwing money at him for his car.

MrStabby i have been through alot please dont rub my face in the dirt, lol its me im the one who wanted to sell the car, and Nine is the guy emailing me telling me the car isnt worth anything any more because its been trashed.

You've misunderstood me - the guy saying "its not a Nur anymore" and "put a R32 GTR motor in" is the jerk - not you!

Thanks Mr Stabby.

I have the original block although it has a hole in it !! although it has the original engine number on it .

I have just been offered one of those nissan rebuilt Nur spec engines not sure wether to buy or carry on with my build .

This is one of the block numbers with a R and X on it .....

So essentially not sure what to do ...

Any ways thanks for the comments appreciate it loads .

Next up got my Viton valve stem seals and have my new head so have to port the exhaust humps and do valve clearances then i can build and wrap awaiting the block and bottom end.

will post pics of the progress .

This is just my opinion and will not help in any way but......

Cars are built to be driven. If you are like me then you could never buy a car, stick it in a garage, admire it on the weekend and never drive it. No matter what kind of car it is. I believe that a TRUE car enthusiast could never buy a car as a proper investment. If I had the cash to spend on something expensive and rare, then I would probably start recieving hate mail from people who dont think that I should be driving it and telling me that I am devaluing the car and will lose money. If i want to make money from an investment then I will buy shares or a nice rare painting or some other boring S&%tT. Everytime that I purchase a car, I accept the fact that it is a big black hole for my money and I try not to think about it. I look at it this way, whatever money I am losing on the car is the price that I am paying to have a smile on my face and a boner in my pants everytime that I drive the thing.

If you are seriously that worried about the car no longer being 100% original, (which i also would be worried about, i like to leave my cars the way that the manufacturer intended, to a point), then sell it and buy something else. Obviously this is the expensive way to do it, but if you really think that you may be somewhat disappointed every time that you get in the car because it is no longer completely original, then why would you want to keep it? Cars die eventually, so either you need to be happy knowing that you own a car that was built as a Nur Spec (it was still built in the same factury with the same parts as the others) or you need to accept the fact that you will no longer be happy with the car once it has a different engine and get rid of it to buy something else.

I am completely comfortable with the fact that I will never become a "Car Collector" and will always be a "Car Enthusiast" because I would jump in something 100 years old with 5km on the clock and drive it around the world. The pleasure that I would get out of that is the exact reason that I would have bought the car in the first place, screw anyone who says it shouldnt be done. If I was a car manufacturer, I would want people driving my cars and not looking at them on the weekend. When I go to a car museum I enjoy myself but I also think "what a waste, someone should be enjoying that car in the way that was originally intended".

Anyone who disagrees and would prefer just to rub their car with a diaper on the weekend instead of driving it, Flame away.

Everyone else, I'm off to thrash my 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO for a little while.......the car will be gone eventually, the memories will last forever.

Al

P.S If you have to ask if I really have the GTO dont reply to this post!

Alkatraz, im killing my self with a huge grin, you right about everything, im not phased about the Collectors edition part cause in all honesty as long as this car has a nur block the rest really doesnt matter.

Im going to fix it, when i get the block, pistons and rods, and bearings and rings and then assemble it and enjoy the car God forbid that something else doesnt go wrong.

Im certain that wont happen this time but you never know .

Any ways i have been offered a nur spec engine from Another seller and im seriously considering buying it as i feel its a good offer from the seller .

Its taken me this long to get up to speed and im not looking for an all out balls to the walls car,.

All i want is a nice enjoyable gtr34 and a gtr32 seam welded for the track days :)

that will be the project beast car lol.

I not scared to build a rb26 any more and i have ordered a rb26dett rebuild video, any one fancy a copy of this from the heart of Japan ?

i cant wait to drive my car again im tired of looking at it sitting in the garage.

Thanks for all your comments good and bad doesnt matter and as this is a open conversation on a forum i feel everyone is entitled to say what ever they want .

Thanks guys again for taking time to read and post up.

    • Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance
    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened.
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
    • Damn... Not the feedback I want to hear.
