ZacZerbst
hey there guys. got defected for being to low the other day and need to get a roadworth. before i went to take it in i gave it and the engine bay a wash. i then backed it out of the wash area and into the garage. about 10 minutes later i went to take it for a drive and it had a miss at idle. i went to keep driving it as i was heading to a workshop anyway only to have the car almost die when i went to drive off. and didnt improve at all down my drive. so i took the car back to the house. its a series 1 r33 gts with the only engine mod being a k&n pannel filter. any suggestions on what the problem might be. thanks Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/369131-r33-gts-missfire/ Share on other sites

ZacZerbst
with a hose and some degreaser although that was only used where some fuel had leaked around the filter and on the engine number Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/369131-r33-gts-missfire/#findComment-5884623 Share on other sites
Duchie
Depends on what the problem is. If it is a missfire as in the a cylinder is missing a spark and causes the engine to make a noticeable jump then your coilpacks need to be replaced. This is likely as your coilpacks are pretty sensitive (shock, moisture). Also depends what else you got wet and how the engine is behaving so try and give us some more details. RBish
check all plugs have spark, check injector wires arent loose, check the injector seals arent leaking thats all i can think of. check coil packs . if none of that works than you should take it to someone who can check the live data Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/369131-r33-gts-missfire/#findComment-5885551 Share on other sites
ZacZerbst
the car runs great first thing when the engine is cold. as it starts to warm up it starts missing at low revs. the hotter the engine get the worse it gets at higher revs. so when it first starts to warm up the car runs well when travelling at 2500 rpm but almost stalls at idle. then when at operating temperature the car misses badly at revs and only slightly at idle. will be checking coils.and plugs this morning Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/369131-r33-gts-missfire/#findComment-5885856 Share on other sites
SKITTLES
It'll get better over time but it'll wear the f**k out of your engine. Pull every spark plug out, dry out each plug/where it plugs into. Make sure none of them are f**ked. You may want to grab a piece of fine-grit sand paper and clean up the sparking parts of the spark plugs. Then, you need to get in your car, drive down to the local mechanic, tell him what you did and let him fix it. Running worst when warm reminds me of my coilpack issue... i covered it in silicon however I'd recommend you leave that resort till last. You want to attack the immediate problem as opposed to imminent problems. But yeah tbh I wouldn't even bother touching the car myself.. your mechanic will have all the replacement parts and knowledge you need to fix this. ZacZerbst
replaced the coils. it runs a lot better now especially at higher revs. but there is still a miss. it is most noticable at idle Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/369131-r33-gts-missfire/#findComment-5886766 Share on other sites
Duchie
You can test the voltages on your air flow metre just to be sure, a faulty afm will make the car stall with no acceleration and run really rough and wont go past 2500rpm Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/369131-r33-gts-missfire/#findComment-5887375 Share on other sites
ZacZerbst
ill try that. any idea what voktages should be a which wires Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/369131-r33-gts-missfire/#findComment-5887510 Share on other sites
Duchie
geez i really cant remember the voltages but if you had a power fc it would tell you automatically. There's a few posts that explain which terminals are which and what the correct volatges are. Not too sure if you should bother with this one, basically the car wont be able to hold idle and will just die if the afm is ruined.
