lol you still stuck on your silly idea of your built 20? nyaanyaa.gif

Thats funny since every thread you seem to start is concerning problems with your R32 running RB25s. How many engines have you had in it now and how many kms has it actually run...and what is the cost up to :)

What has any of that got to do with it being a 25?

Car had a sloppy built 25 in it when I bought it which snapped a cam shaft, doubt it would have been any different if it was 20 or a 30. Now it has a neo and is running great, 240kw with stock response, full boost at 3k. Lets see your 20 do that nyaanyaa.gif

Cost is $11.5k (car) + $2k (neo after the 25 head blew up)+ random bits maybe another $1k max?

I've got a buyer for the bottom end now so will make another $1k back on that. Not a bad upgrade for $2k. Have about 10,000kms with the 25 now, I've only owned the car for just over a year so not bad.

So its at least a 3k option. Does that 1k include all the tuning, replacing studs etc and work that Boostworx had to do, oil, belts, coolantm recharging aircon etc?

And you are right, it has nothing to do with it being an RB25. It has to do with doing an engine swap, even a pretty straight forward one. Every person I know that has done one ends up spending more then they thought... just like a new turbo and tune for an RB20 always costs more then you start out thinking and what people post on SAU :)

Yep it cost about $200 in parts myself and then about $800 in tuning and paying boostworx to finish it off. I left the aircon in the car so it didn't need to be recharged. All I had to buy is 3 new belts, oil, coolant, spark plugs and some fancy new electrical connectors for the wiring, everything else I reused. The $800 was mainly labour for replacing a few broken hose clamps in flamin mongrel positions, pulling studs out and tuning.

I'm not really sure what your point is though, that $3k is a lot less than building a built 20!

just read this whole thread, i went down the route of building a 20 last year, looking back i should've just done a standard single cam 30 with a decent sized turbo but ohwel

the engine ended up costing around 4k all up to build which wasnt too bad, wouldve cost me about the same to do a 25 conversion.

yes i know BIG WASTE OF MONEY but i built the car to Drift, which it does perfectly fine so thats all that counts, power figures werent realy a concern just wanted a reliable motor and thats what its got

what about engineering costs rolls?... wouldn't that bump it up to around the same??

Read all of my posts, you don't need to engineer a 25 swap in SA, you just go through a full defect inspection which was $172 when I did it, $90 for a reinspection if you fail. Applying and getting the documents is free.

The inspection is to check that its done right, using the 2.5lt brake setup etc.

Yep that is all they are checking, however they will give the car a full road worthy at the same time, that means checking bushes, oil leaks, suspension components etc. So your car has to be returned to stock with normal ride height, stock rims etc etc.

Here is what I can think of of the top of my head:

(* beside the stuff that would be bought regaurdless of the motor) All figures in USD.

R32 head with both manifolds =60

oil pan and pickup =40

*full gasket kit =189

Clutch kit and new water pump =100 (this would be more if I went with a 25/26/30)

Wiring, ecu, coil packs, stock r32 rad, and coil cover =200 iirc (I did trade some parts to lessen the price)

Head work(shave and 3 ang valve job) =140

*turbo (hx35), oil lines, and ex wastegate(38mm) =380

I am getting my ecu chipped for 180(150+whatever shipping costs)

I stil need mounts(300), arp head studs(130), and about 100 worth of miss stuff.

Thats about $1819 for about 350-400 hp in my 240sx(s13). Would not buy a stock swap to spend that on it, but considering I have the swap and am just making it better I think its well worth it.

I know Roy, but I've already offered to get him a RB30 cheap as. Postage is just something we'd need to hunt for.

All the stuff purchased would and wouldn't be needed for the rb30 anyway, and at the identical cost.

    • Ayooo, been a while mates. I have a s2 r33 gtst and air stopped coming out of all the top vents.   My car has always made an actuator gear noise when turning the car on but that's a different issue I think? Did searches and am at process of thinking it's an actuator or some type of motor? I see a few different actuators and don't know which one. Would be nice to know if it was the one that's under the steering wheel so the dash doesn't need to come out.
    • Hi, just checking. Did you get this stuff made by Vspec Performance and at what price roughly? Looking into (sometime later) also getting such a intake kit, and Trust as well as HKS don't make a full set like this anymore.
