I did a quick search and couldn't find any useful infomation on this conversion.

If you know of any good links could you please list them as I'm after all the information I can get before I start the conversion.

All help would be much appriciated!

The motor arrives tommorow and I was wondering what I have to modify to make the motor fit.

Reading Zoom they said one of the engine mounts fouls on the turbo: Can I use a gtr engine mount?

Do only the holes in the sump for the drive shafts need to be filled or does it need to be modified in other ways? I'm wanting to use the gtr sump to stop oil surge.

Is it easy to remove the front diff?

Can i still use the RB20 throttle cable?

Do the gtr front pipes fit?

Does the gtr loom plug straght in?

Some may say why do this conversion? If you pick up a complete R32 gtr engine for $2500 missing afm's it seems pointless screwing around modifying a RB20 to still only have a 2 litre.

You'll find that the rb26 sensors reads differently to the rb20s and yes used the gtr engine mounts. Throttle cables is ok and no the gtr-gts looms are different in r33 dunno about r32. But the real question is that have u started the engine u bought yet? cause it no point shoe horning in a busted engine and then having to remove it for rebuild, Don't just take an importer words as gospel. Also u have to get new sump as the stock gtr with block out are a eng- cert. nightmare.

Unless yours is a GTS4 then the pan rails on your sump are different to the RB26 so the options are limited.

Don't believe the GTR sump doesn't surge and if you are using the original RB20 box then it's life span will be in minutes once you crank up the boost.

I think you will find a fair difference between the two wiring harnesses and I assume you got the GTR computer ?

You can run aftermarket but if staying with factory then the afm's will be needed.

if you change to a new ecu then you should be able to use the std loom may just need to change a few plugs. You will need to use the rb20 engine mounts and as ken said the rb20 box will be useless, change it to a rb25 one first, the front pipes should be fine as the body is very similar.

4WD RB series blocks have 2 sets of bolt patterns tapped into the block for sumps - both 4WD and 2WD sumps bolt up. The oil pickup needs a bit of work, as the location is different for 4WD vs 2WD. 2WD sump on a 4WD block needs a little bit of "clearancing" around the pickup point as it's right near the 2WD sump bolts - nothing a few minutes welding can't fix.

the chassis itself is identical. The cross member I do know is different however.

One of the turbos was missing the exhaust wheel! Just wondering should I buy another pair of standard turbos for $600 or what would it cost to have steel wheels put in the ones I have? Not high flowed.

gearbox from r33 rb25det would be ideal choice behind rb26 rwd conversion. trans tunnel can accomodate those gearbox with bit of hammer action if required. :(

I have rb20 engine mount on turbo side I think.. as well as retained rb20 throttle cable as all you need is just a custom bracket to hold it properly if the factory one didn't hold.

as long as the front pipes are from the 32 series then you can fit them no problem.

also have a spare set of 32 gtr standard turbos, very good condition. let me know if you are not going the highflow route. ;)

Has anybody tried making their own resistor pack? Its only a few resistors and possibly diodes. If anybody has a resistor pack lying around could they please test the resistance and post the results. Your held would be much appriciated as it will save me around $200 since there can only be around $30 worth of parts to make my own.

The resistor pack is $50 from the wreckers, why would u risk problems as for using rb25 box u have to get custom support brackets for the bottom half of the bellhousing otherwise u gonna chew out some boxes from flex.

Just bolted the engine in using the rb20 mounts and rb26 sump with the diff chopped off the side. Started the motor and it ran for a few seconds and made oil pressure so I can start bolting everything back onto it cooler pipes, afm's, radiator etc

Just a few questions thou:-

Where is the power taken for the resistor pack as I had one made? I've just been running it off the battery. There isn't any power in the plug where the rest oof the wires go.

The tacho ins't working?

I think it is) on the gtst the one that sticks up behind the cross member. Tossing up the idea of buying some or making some.

Its been so far a bloody easy conversion. Only two days to get where I'm up to and I've taken heaps of photos. A mates agreed to make a web page on the conversion to kill all the myths out there.

My mates R32 GTS-T runs an RB20 stroked out to 2.2 litres and runs close to 300rwkw with a fair amount of mods....

He is still running the standard R32 GTS-T Gearbox with some specail clutch stuff going on..

Plus my car runs a standard R32 box behind a 200+ rwkw car....

Ohhhhh and there is a LJ Tonana that gets around here with an RB20det motor and standard R32 box and its modded to the hill.....(guess 350+ rwkw) The roll cage and fatts on the back are a dead give away.... (Note: the torana in question is not a legally registered car therefore no more detail will be given here)

yea i have a r32 box behind my gtr motor at 1.2 bar and it hasnt had a drama drifting and poping thrid gear.... its done about 1300ks on the track so far

i think clumsy drag racers with twin plate clutches can destroy anything on a drag strip but a r32 box hold up well for motorsport
