Fuel Pump Big Enough?

You'd be pushing it. My 040 failed to supply fuel for my 740 on regular fuel. It was holding up but then went south.

hmm, just wondering how old was the pump, were you running a larger power wire with a relay (to get consistent 13v)

but Im already running a 040 in-tank and making 290rwkw on 550cc next going to E85 using 840cc injectors and same pump Im thinking so far...

why do you need to use 740cc to make 280rwkw???

you dont... 740's are plenty big enough for that power. im doing 360 ish rwkw on 800cc's with plenty head room. also on e85.

the fuel pump however is pushing it. i'd fit an 044 in the tank.

I wasn't running this mod. My fuel pump died because it failed, it didn't hit its limits but I would say on E85 you will be pushing it.

75coupe I don't thin you'd get away with 500cc and E85 for that power...

Ive got a Bosch 040 replacement coming in and gonna drop that back into the tank then attach a surge tank with probably a 044 or another pump to it.

you dont need larger than 500cc and you dont need e85 to make 280rwkw

So 500cc are enough for 280rwkw on E85? I know you dont need E85 for that power but if you wanted it I think the injectors are too small... Some people might want to to keep the EGT down.

why are you spending the extra $$ in changing your car to E85 for a power level that can easily be achieved on PULP??

seriously, its gonna be harder to get E85 than PULP because of limited stations selling it. you wouldn't want to buy it by drum from any race fuel place because its $2.50 per L or more

all the time in tuning and getting your fuel system upgraded to handle the additional flow seriously outweighs any benefits of E85 at your goals.

i think on this forum some people are getting a little too in love with E85, its good for knock protection and can make more power on very high boost applications and high comp motors.

but on most street skylines, their comp ratios arent high enough to get the full benefit of E85 and most arent running super levels of boost 25psi or more.

on my GTR i could get 300rwkw everyday on 18psi on PULP which is more than your power goals are.

i put my GTR on E85 when it wouldnt make anymore than 350rwkw on PULP at 22psi, i didnt want to do any headwork and thought that E85 might be able to give me that extra bit to hit 500rwhp

but more than $2000 later on 1000cc injectors, 2 fuel pumps, modification to fuel lines for the additional flow.

i'm running 24.5psi of boost and only manage 365rwkw

but speaking with others who have reached the threshold of PULP on RB26/30 builds (which have higher comp ratio) and they also run higher boost the benefits of E85 are huge.

so you can take my advice and save yourself some money, or you can spash out and brag to everyone on the forum that you're too running E85 in your skyline but still have a relatively lowing power level.

were still only talking about 280rwkw for a street car... it will cost the same to upgrade the fuel system to E85 as if your target was 320rwkw but then were talking different turbos surely and thats another quite large expense. so why run E85 simply for knock protection, cant you just run a really safe tune... oh but you want to squeeze the enth amount of power out of the turbo too cause you dont want to loose response on your street driven car... you cant have it all, well you can but it will just cost more money...

I still dont quite understand why you would need 740cc injectors to make 280, even if its E85, Im on pulp with 550cc and only at 50-70% injector duty making 289rwkw...

we still dont even know what turbo the op is intending on using?

yeah it was only a 15kw gain.

but i had to add an extra 2psi

the midrange torque is insane! but then again its expected when running 24psi of boost.

spending all the money on fuel system isnt worth it if the power is achievable on PULP.

someone mentioned having it as knock protection and still keeing smaller turbo for response.

its a pretty big expense for knock protection, although united E85 is slighty cheaper than Pump Fuel you do use more. i went from using maybe 16L per 100kms to using no less than 21L per 100kms

and this is on a low boost of 18psi and not much throttle, if i go high boost and am really heavy on the pedal it'll easily drink 25L for 60-70kms of driving

at the track day i used about 90L of fuel for not even 170kms,

i was averaging a jerry can every 2 x 15min sessions

thanks guys, dont think the end result is realy worth it for the power figures i want. The car will be drifted so the least lag and a good midrange is what im after. Wanted to see if an 0p6 high flow could make that kind of power on E85 but its obvious the cost to make it work out-ways the benefits.

    • There are fixes for this. In industry we use compressed air for everything. It is frequently wet, and many things cannot tolerate it. So there are various forms of driers available that you can install. The simplest option for something like this would be a dessicant drier. Much cheaper to replace some silica gel than actuator cylinders.
    • That's a solid update mate, well done at WA FOS. You may already know this, but the actuators on the paddle shift are a service item and are sadly not that reliable. As I understand it they collect water from the compressor (condensation) which then rusts the bores/pistons in the actuators. A mate of mine had no end of trouble with them in one if his circuit cars, apparently it's a 'known issue'. Buy a couple of spares at great expense to ensure you never have any problems with the ones you've got! Any clues about what the new WTAC rules might be? While faster cars are cool the Pro class arms race has got to the point where you wouldn't even bother entering without a $1m budget and even then I don't think you'd win.
