Answer to question is: Live in QLD.

My car doesn't make "big" power. But if you don't drive like a wanker and avoid the hotspots, you can usually avoid the bulk of trouble. We don't (to my current knowledge) have much of an EPA notice testing system in Queensland, so I guess that helps.

Much less likely to be pulled over commuting to work in a subdued manner, as oposed to late at night, lapping spots nortorius for illegally modded cars.

Yes they can still defect you, because half the time people change some stuff after its engineered. BUT you just go down and get it cleared straight away without having to do anything.

If you get defected for what is engineered and its legit then you can put in a complaint i guess.

I never had any issues, one policeman from sydney was up newcastle way defecting everyone he could, got many of my friends even a couple of girls i know, but when he stopped me he was pretty excited he called the other police man out of the car to show him my papers.

All he wanted to check was to make sure if i had a blow off valve or not which i didnt. he asked for my card so he could direct all the people he defected to me to fix their cars... He was just doing his job.

going out of your way to be a flamin mongrel is not in the job discription "just doing my job" is a cop out, try using it as a defence for anything, let me know how you get on.

moral of the story is that much of the rules we must comply with are not rooted in any sort of fact or are otherwise quite open to debate hence you can often understand peoples contempt for enforced stupidity.

Thanks mate, cleared up what my concerns were. I was basically just worried that the engineers certificate can be rendered useless and defected regardless, hence having to return to stock. My main concern is having to change all the parts over, time and time again.. I couldnt really care less about having to get things cleared up.

Having said all that, the only time i have ever been defected or epa noticed, is when i was attracting attention. (throttling it etc) Wanting to get an engineers certificate is just me wanting the piece of mind of not having to worry.

The police are taught in a limited way to ID illegal mods, they do get it wrong on occasions like before when I had my catch can venting to atmo and he said it was a "pod filter", or Stevos filter box, but they have to know about alot of bits and pieces about the law in numerous ways, and like me they dont get everything right everytime, but they are only doing their job, they keep dangerous cars and drivers of the street which is good, if I have to get plled over every so often so be it.

Just do what I did, build the car properly, run a 10 second pass and get a IM240 test and engineers certificate then wave it in their faces when they pull you over.

Then enjoy your 10 second street car.

Its amazing the reaction you get from the police, they dont get angry you are engineered they get happy and excited and give you compliments for doing it the right way.

well my GTR has mod plate and also been engineered (evident from sticker in engine bay) but did not have the report to come with the sale. is there a way to obtain another copy of the report? ie from RTA as they take a copy when car gets engineered? or can i at least tell cops that the vehicle is engineered in 2 states but did not have the papers as they were not provided to me? any help appreciated

You will need the report on you at all times. You will have to find who did the engineering of the car and get another copy.

If he/they are a decent company they will have copies.

Id try keep my engine bay looking stocky, i bought it with few things like exposed pods and what not , but im gna get covers and everything so everything is hidden... ill also try not make everything bling bling that will help :)

I have just about every cop magnet known to man on my car from loud graphics to phatt rubber to body kit to whatever, Under the bonnet is as bling as you can get. Roll cage stands out like dogs balls on a wedding cake.

The amount of times a copper hunts me down through traffic, takes one look at the silly old grey haired fokka driving, shake their heads and drive away is comical.

Funny thing is, everything is engineered with plates and certificates. I just dont get the chance to show them.

In QLD you just get a Modplate for high mounts and the like. Done deal ;)

Whisper is that QLD will someday(Soon?) be adopting the NCOP rules for engine conversions also. So modplates and legal high displacement engine conversions FTW

Same story here, I've pulled out my engineering cert once, all they went to know is how fast the car goes and how much power it makes, but then I'm 46, drive the speed limit and consider myself a courteous driver.
