hey guys,

i spent hours on getting these back to raw alloy with paint stripper & a tooth brush - i was planning on painting them satin as per factory finish...its almost a shame to paint them considering the time & effort i spent on this. although i need honest opinions, leave them as is raw alloy OR paint them so that they dont stand out as much?

Man lol that looks like alot of work.

I would like to see them black or a very dark matching colour to your white

Wipers are a very... unimpressive thing on a car - and yours currently stand out A LOT. So you are making something unimportant stand out more than the 'important' features. If that makes any sense haha...

Regardless of the look.

1. It will rust at parts (mine did)

2. Wait for the right time of day and you'll get a blinding glare.

Both the above are currently a problem for me as small sections have either begun to rust or are reflective just like a mirror.

Wouldnt mind tips on how to clean it up and re paint. :)

if you dont want it to rust just throw some clearcoat on it..but true you could get a glare at times..

As for repainting i just gave mine a quik rub with a fine wet n dry then sprayed them with satin black high temp (heatproof) paint..look good as new and was piss easy and heatproof paint should withstand the sun for years

Marko they actually look pretty cool cause you have done such a good job..wether or not you should keep them is up to you but they dont look too bad..

I'd paint them with clear undercoat (to prevent any rusting or surface corrosion) and leave them for a while then if you change your mind just spray black on them..

too easy

alloy will corrode...

you didnt actually need to strip them completely to repaint them though...

I just did mine, a clean a sand a black satin paint... done...

That's what I thought tooo.. lol

I have 2 sets of wipers, the 1st set I did sand back then paint but wasn't happy with the finish which is shy I stripped these back...I'm ultra fussy and the smallest defect drives me nuts! I will paint them satin black though once again...a lot of thr older cars and american muscle have silver wipers and mine is not an american muscle car haha

How come you used paint stripper instead of sanding it? Also, if you leave it as "raw alloy", wouldn't it rust?

something as fiddly as wipers are sometimes easier to paint strip than sand,

especially if you want to take them back to bare metal.

That is right guys, if u want a 100% job with no defects, u need to paint strip them! I had to apply about 6 coats as its hard to get to the paint in hard to reach spots like the underside where spring is mounted.

I'll paint them tomorrow and post some pics :)

The wipers did take a bit of time to wrap before it's small, thin and fiddly lol.

But the vinyl has a self-adhesive backing, so you supply it and with a heat gun to stretch, fold around corners :)

Here's a whole thread about the vinyl and wrapping - http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/296681-carbon-fibre-vinyl-wrap/
