Hi Guys,

Im pretty new to the scene, been trawling the club sites to get an idea about which direction i want to go in regards to tuning my 4door R33GTST.

Ive got about $5000 to spend and looking to make about 250kw with boost coming on early and oooodles of torque (please).

Ive had modified SAABs before and was/am disappointed with the power of the Nissan.

Ive spoken to a few tuners and im also disheartend at the fact ive been told to get that power its going to cost me about 8.5/9k thats more than the car!!!!

Thats for:

Turbo $3200

Engine man $2000

Injectors $1000

IC $1000

Clutch $1000

Fuel pump $250

Already have exhaust and Apexi AVCR.

My own research has led me to believe i could get the Turbo, Engine Man and Injectors for about $3500.

I didnt think 250kw was a big ask but for that money i might as well get a better car.

So...........any ideas?!?!?!

Reasonable tuner?

Reasonable parts?

Thanks for youe time.

Cheers

Simon

Talk to Stao/Hypergear re turbo he is on here, do a search. Around $1500 give or take and bolt up to existing stuff.

Other stuff - it depends on what you settle for - price depends on brand vs new vs s/h, vs quality etc etc but you could do it all for the $5K if your smart IMO.

You can crack that miracle 250 rwkWs on less than that.

$1000 or less on 2nd turbo, either OP6 R34 Hi-Flow or something similar

$1000 or less on 2nd hand PowerFC & Controller

$400 or less S15 200SX 450cc Manual Injectors (straight plug in)

$400 or less on eBay Special FMIC kit (brand new)

$xxx on clutch, use the stock one till it fries

$150 or less on used GT-R fuel pump

$100 on used Z32 & harness

Tune, not sure about Brissy, but you could try and tune it yourself if you know what you're doing.

and once you do the above mods, you can sell your stock gear for $$

You said you've built saabs before so I guess you're familiar with the mechanical work which will save you $$

Turbo $3200 - Bullarase, I got a Hypergear ATR43SS-2 for $1300 I think it was.

Engine man $2000 - A power FC will cost you about $1600 tuned

Injectors $1000 - $1000 for injectors? I bought Nismo 740cc's for $650 brand new. You won't even need these for 250rwkw.

IC $1000 - lol, $200 - $500 depending if you go new or used. 250rwkw doesn't need an amazing core.

Clutch $1000 - I payed $380 for a 5puk carbotic button clutch suitable for huge torque(600nm+) and big power.

Fuel pump $250 - Or you can get a GTR fuel pump for about $80 but then again you can get a Bosch 040 brand new from Canada for $185 delivery included.

Already have exhaust and Apexi AVCR.

My car is making 245rwkw on 11psi. This turbo is capable and designed to run 17psi for a nice 280 - 300rwkw. I spent about 5g total on my car which includes all the other little things I need to add/replace/fix. I done most of the work my self, apart from the tune.

For the price of a Skyline and the vast collection of aftermarket parts, you will be hard pressed to find a better performing car. All in all, for the tweaker, performance seeker, a skyline is a very impressive machine. The fatter your wallet the faster you can go but for not very much you can still move very quick.

My old line would rip 3rd gear with only 225rwkw. The torque is very impressive for a 2.5L motor. For your clarification, the ATR43 is not going to be the most responsive turbo you can buy but it gives such a beautiful, linear delivery of power. 255 wheels and such little boost I still get the chirp on third and the slipper snake on 2nd.

$3200 was for the turbo including fitting, still seems expensive thou. He didnt say what turbo. Think the ecu was a link.

Getting the handbrake sorted tomorrow, also thought id get the engine compression tested so i dont end up polishing a turd!!

Thanks for your input guys.

How much power did the saab make, a recent dyno days figures was from 80 to the heady heights of 130 kwatw from the 4 and 6 cylinder variants of teh little turbo saabs, You should be able to buy everything you need from the for sale section to get 250 for under $5000, or sell the 4 door and use that money plus your $5000 and by one which has 250atwkw with better brakes and suspension .

Its a buyers market at the moment, lots of bargains to be had if youve got the time, money and nerve for some face to face low ballin.

Ive read somewhere that you have to use an R32 ecu to run the Niztune, is that right?

Gotta keep the 4 door because of the baby!!!!! And i dont mean the wife!!!!

I had it when i lived in the UK. It was a 9000 Aero, 225hp from the factory, the performance software to remap the ecu is on the net, a guy in the SAAB club had the computer leads to reflash it. I got a 3inch downpipe and went to 276hp at the front wheels with 330nm of torque, all for the equivilent of $400. The car cost the equivilent of $1200. For the money (in the UK) nothing on 4 wheels is quicker.

Youd be happy with this.............

i made 188KW stock with 9psi just exhaust and pod so they are pretty good just need to unleash there potential but as stated you can save some cash if you fit up the turbo your self etc

go the 3076 low mounted :)

power fc, nistune haltech which ever you like

hybrid cooler kits are 600-650 on ebay cheap ones $300

external gate $300 fab it on the stock manifold and dump pipe mod for turbo

few hundred for lines

S15 injectors as said or PJ on here high flows stock injectors for $300 odd my mate has them and they are great

fab up your intake pipe and get a Z32 or if you use a haltech or link its a map so dont even have to have one

and have a nice 250-300 KW depending on your boost, just remember the more you do your self the more you will save :)

Hypergear highflow turbo

550cc Injectors

deaschwerks fuel pump

hybrid front mount intercooler kit

decent exhaust

highflow panell filter in your stock air box

nistune board for a z32 ecu (direct plug in) totally re-tunable.

plugs, oil, filter

dyno time.

I almost got here but my turbo choice was accidently poor.. :(

s/h tubo kit sold as 3071 but wasnt. included all lines and custom 3inch intake ..$1500

20psi WG actuator 100$

s/h 650cc Injectors ...400$

plus testing and cleaning 100$

s/h splitfires coilpacks...400$

s/h pfc and tuning 1300$

Intercooler kit 400$

turboback exhaust made from assorted bits n pieces about 500$

Z32 afm 180$

Retune 120$

240rwkw for 5000$$

If it had of been a 'Real 3071' (I learnt the hard way) it could of made 250-270kw maybe more, so you definately can do it. With one of hypergears turbos you should be more successful but you will need to do all the labour yourself..Only labour I paid for was exhaust fitment, Injector cleaning and the tune..

there is a few other small expenditures i havent included like silicone joiners and new plugs oil etc..

Plus my car already had a HD clutch and better fuel Pump when I bought it.

I had my own tools and basic mechanical knowledge but i learnt everything else I needed to know right here

EDIT..forgot the most important piece Tubortech boost controller 30$ :D

hey simdog has the car got any other mods? suspension etc? if its bone stock its gonna be sooooo much more cost effective to sell it and buy one with some $$$ spent...

I know its a pain in the ass starting over and it may take months to find another car but if the brakes, suspension and diff are stock your looking at 5k easy to get that into shape...

Standard brakes are pretty good, maybe invest $500 in rotors and $200 in pads. Diff is also quite reasonable too, if anything shim it up. Suspension is about $800 - 1200. Its hard to find nice, modified skylines these days. Then again I wouldn't buy a skyline without an FMIC, exhaust and suspension. Suspension that old is flat, the stock exhaust is horrible, and an FMIC gives you the headroom for modifications. The basework is covered.

Yeh stock brakes are good but all too often you find worn rotors and 20yr old pads.... Have you driven with a mechanical diff SargeRX8? guess it depends on what type of driver you are but I find stock diff's completely crap especially now most of them are old and worn... When I say suspension Im talking about the whole package if the bushes are all stock your gonna have to replace them.

Im probably a bit fussy when it comes to an "overall package" but when you do everything right they are great fun.

    • It will sound tragic and you wished you didn't have 1x exhaust per turbo. There's a reason why most S55 owners change to a single mid pipe.
    • Echo the comments about the well preserved condition it's in. It has the aero bumper too for extra points. Nice car, and please keep it like that! 🙂
    • 1. There are no real performance benefits. It sounds different, and as the pipes are not as large diameter you can claw back some undercar clearance or run lower (if that's your thing). 2. Twin pipes, offering exactly the same cross sectional area as a single pipe** will have higher pressure drop - so will not flow as well. That's because there is more surface area of wall per cross sectional pipe area, hence more frictional losses. ** But of course, it is almost impossible to get 2 pipes that are exactly the same XS area as a given typical single pipe. eg, 2x2" is not the same as 1x 3", although it is close. If the 2x pipes add up to less XS area than the single - it will just be flat out worse. If the 2x pipes add up to a bit more than the single, then it might come out as a wash. If the 2x pipes are substantially more XS area than the single, then it will probably flow a little better. 3. No. Why would there be? What have cats got to do with boost creep?*** ***But for f**ks' sake, please run a cat. 4. If you want.
    • UPDATE: was able to have the bracket repaired and base repaired, seat is like new now ;)
    • I was going to say it looks right out of Gran Turismo photoshoot when you just buy the car. (in a good way)
