Unfortunately there isnt really a step by step on stopping it.

Seems to me that after trolling through millions of posts regarding Skyline brake squeal, it comes down to trying everything your willing to pay for untill you find something that works.

I did it, and for me what stopped the squeal completely, was Slotted rotors, and Ferodo Formula DS2000(?) pads. No shims, no squeak gunk.

I have recently changed the Ferodods to some Bendix SRT, and they are still silent

1. Have rotors machined

2. Rebuild calipers

3. Use new pads, and install shit kit shown.

4. Run in pads properly.

Guaranteed no squeals.

Oh right.... because everyone with squeaky brakes is going to do that.. lol.

Its just a 4pot issue. Evos do it, DC5R's do it..

If you go to that extreme then yeah i spose there is a step by step. But 99% of people wont.

3. Pads were new, squeeled, roughened them up, still squealing.

They are still pretty loud as soon as they get hot. Usual driving there is nothing but anything above medium braking will make them hot and they just turn into ass.

My old car with the same rotors and endless pads never squealed. We shall give them a little while more to settle in. Its been about 230km now. Ill probably just end up buying new rotors and fresh remsa pads, they sound promising.

can sometimes be put down to pad type and the usage people give them. Running hot track pads on the street will see them glaze over and start squealing. I run rb74 in std 32 GTR rotors and did the above and they never squeal on the street. Ran em in so they were smoking hot on fresh rotors

I'm using the QFM HPX pads. They should be suitable for the streets and not too hard either. I don't know. There must be something, the brakes aren't liking.

The two times I have used Project Mu HC+ pads only one thing seems to make them quiet... a good day of thrashing around Wakefield

The they become quieter... when cold you can just hear them over the engine/road noise

would you have a part number for that shim kit from nissan???

The following should be correct.

41080-21U25 gets you all but 5, 6 & 7.

41218-30P00 is 5.

41217-30P00 is 6.

41090-40P01 is 7.

I'm using the QFM HPX pads. They should be suitable for the streets and not too hard either. I don't know. There must be something, the brakes aren't liking.

I swapped worn ultimates out for these and the squeel was unbearable, no matter how much I heated them up.

I've got new rotors and pads to go in, A1s this time, see how I go. Might try some copper grease too.

Did you get squealing with the HPX pads too? My ears are gone deaf from these pads. I was driving earlier with abit of throttle. Couple brakes later even tapping the brake at 80km/h caused it to squeal. Ive got some standard pads I think I'm going to put back in tomorrow as everything I have tried has not got rid of the sound. I think they might be just too hard as they seem to discolour my rotor a fair bit.

When I get new rotors and pads all round(when funds permit) Ill either go remsa pads or back to endless pads.

Yeah sorry I mean HPX. Noisiest pads I've ever had. I was originally after A1RM but my car was a daily then and the HPX were suggested so I took the advice. I wore out my Bendix Ultimates which were slightly noisy unless they had heat in them (fair enough), but the HPX were unbearable. Embarrassingly so. I cycled heat through them several times and they screamed even more!

Giving QFM one more go with the A1RM on new discs before I buy Bendix again. Plenty of people in the brake pad thread raving about how quiet and good they are...

Damm what a nicely timed thread. I just put on a set of QFM HPX pads bought from GS Rally Spot a few months ago onto my V35 and the screaming is pretty bad. Ill give it time to wear in but ive done about 1000-2000km in them and they squeak like hell. I can even hear it with my windows up which sucks =(, ill give it another 1000-2000km and replace if i can hear it with the windows up still.

I did about 5,000km in my daily driven GTR and they continued to scream. I didn't have a problem with the set of pads on the car prior.

Greg from GSL said it might be due to harmonics of some part of the brakes and not the pad, but it never screamed with the Bendix in it until it made a small noise to indicate they were worn out. See how I go with the A1RM set, new discs and copper grease, otherwise Bendix go back in.

I highly doubt they will get quieter. You have already done alot of Km. If anything they will just get worse as they glaze more.

Pull them out and give them a scrub up with some rough sandpaper. What i do is put the paper on a flat surface and rub the pad over it. Then go try re-bed them in. To the point that they are smoking and not working if possible Seems to work for me.

My old brakes never had any noise, my old rotors were fine too. Only as soon as I fitted these HPX did I ever get noise. Its the pads, they are just too hard I think. I had about 3000km on mine, re-machined my discs now about 1000km on them, no difference. Kind of frustrating when you read the awesome reviews people give products then you buy it on their word only to find it just doesn't work. Hate buying stuff twice, kind of not really fair.

gotRICE, Ive been there and done that. Sanded them back when I got my rotors done. I went for some driving, started off with medium braking, could barely get onto hard braking because of the noise but I did it and it didn't do shit. Yes my pads were smoking too. Ive got other temporary pads going back in tomorrow. No idea what they are but they have a slit in the middle which is something the HPX pads are missing(interestingly), which might help in getting rid of dust and heat.

Im pissed off!

So it seems like the slotted rotors are the way to go to fix my issues. I ruined a set or slotted rotors on the track in december, and while i was there, i swapped them out for a set of OEM rotors, and bed them in on the track. Bendix SRT pads still.

All was well, car was stopping on a dime, but now im back into street driving my windscreen, and any glass in the surrounding area smashes into a million pieces with the noise the dam things make. It hurts my ears so bad lol.

So im gussing im going to have to fork out for a new set of slotted rotors, and just change to OEM for the track. SUCH a pain in the ass.

My brakes have been getting even worse since trying to bed them in. ive given up. I'm getting a set of Remsa brake pads. If that doesnt work, fire to the car.

Does anyone know weather the Nissan shim kit above is suitable for GTR brembo's ??
