Not sure who exactly this is appealing to: not engineered, no go-fast bits for track day, zero overseas interest due to the mods and a fair effort to restore to original. Still, I guess you take whatever C210 coupe you can get these days.

yea no go-fast bits except for the 4.4L V8 in the front lol. these engines were designed for a car that is twice the weight so i reckon it'd go pretty hard.

highly considering this for a track thrasher. havent bid yet. just "hmmmmmm..."-ing a lot!

Twice the weight? A standard skyline is 1150kg compared to the P76's 1250kg. By the time you swap the V8 there wont be much in it. That being said, a well maintained 4.4 should be good for around 200HP, more than enough to destroy the Skyline's brakes, auto, diff, driveshafts...

Granted, the P76 looks like a tank, it's a fair assumption. Good news at least is the 4.4L is a lightweight alloy block that shouldn't weigh too much more than the L6. Still, at the end of the day you'd probably have a C210 that goes as fast as a... err... Leyland.

I'm actually a big fan of both the P76 and the C210, I'd just prefer a Datsun with an L engine and/or a P76 with a 4.4.

There is a red MR30 sedan getting about with a P76 V8 up front. Last time I saw it was at Wakefield on a track day and it handled like a pig. It didn't last long as I think it ran out of brakes and didn't get round a corner or 2 lol

D

no shit? lol. the guy would have been mad keen to cut some laps too. let-down!

in my opinion, C210 skyline brakes, let's face it, are shit. they fade quickly and the pedal feel is spongy. upgrading would be a must.

it would be fine as a tough streeter though. like if you didnt want to rape the pants off it everywhere and just enjoy it for being a cool car.

Upgrading the brakes and cruising the streets sounds good, but you'll need to convince an engineer that the car is going to cope with the engine to get it registered! Either that or pull the 4.4 out, pop in an L24 for a day, and reswap after rego... not the end of the Earth, but still a bit of mucking around.

That's what I meant in the first post when I pondered who was chasing the car; it's going to be a bit of work to get on the road (legally anyway!), or buckets of work to get on a track, without coming unstuck like the Wakefield MR30.

Still, playing Devil's advocate for a minute, living with any modified C210 is going to need compromises galore and deep pockets one way or the other... and when did you last see a coupe in silver for sale?

at least is the 4.4L is a lightweight alloy block that shouldn't weigh too much more than the L6.

Dude. The 4.4 weighs LESS than the nissan lump of iron (199kg)

The P76 V8 sedan weghed less than the 6 cyl model, despite bigger driveline and wider track than the 6 cyl

You are all uncultured swine! the 4.4 into C110 / C210 was THE original hot rod Datsun engine conversion (apart from L18 into 1600, but that's boring by comparison). At the time, 4.4 was the largest engine you could fit into a C110/210 legally. You didn't need to upgrade the brakes with that conversion either (just sayin'). Unfortunately you all have the benefit of RB26 / 4 spor brake / coilover conversion availability nowdays, and have forgotten how limited the choices for hot rodding Datsuns were in those days. Also remember, the C210 was nothing more exotic in its day than a Toyota Aurion is today.

In standard form, the v8 was good for a whopping 140kW. Hardly a power house by today's standards, but certainly livened up the little Skylines. If a 4.4V8 powered skyline handles badly, I can guarantee it is NOT because of the engine.

These were actually quite common in the 80's

I stand corrected; I just took a guess that an all-alloy lightweight V8 was still going to be a little heavier than a straight 6.

Common conversion in it's day or not, I still don't really like the sound of slowing up 200 ponies on the standard C210 brakes, nor would I bank on the drivetrain holding together too long. Crap breaks and falls off my car all the time and it's making a less than 140KW!

Well I never did a V8 conversion to a datsun, but when I was a mad racer back in the 70's I had a 2.0L MGB motor in an Austin A30, a mate had a 289V8 in an 105E Anglia, another put a 327 Corvette into a Rover 100 and I remember the 2.5L Buick (orig Rover) V8 going into a Morris Minor & an MGB. All handled pretty well except the Anglia, but it went like a shell in a straight line at Warwick Farm.

What I have done in recent years is a 1UZFE Toyota V8 into an MX83 Cressida and that car was physically 30kg lighter over the weigh bridge than with the 7MGE straight 6 in it. Power was up to 195Kw at the fly & all the engineers wanted was upgraded front brakes from the donor car, so I fitted LS400 (276 x 28mm) rotors up from std 256 x 20 and the single 60mm piston caliper.

It handled quite good to with help from King springs & Koni shocks all round. Probably the best touring car I have ever had!

Cheers, D

meh i think your soft. take it for what it is and old skyline worth very little with some cool mods.... very good base for something interesting... you guys are too precious... if it was a real gtr then yes complain but hey its not.

Finally an excuse to leave the c210 as it is...

if any of these guys like the power and the expence,

then turn around and sell the thing on ebay, it keeps us who enjoy these cars as they were

away, i always believe if you like this super dooper my car is faster than your car crap...buy yourself the space shuttle!!!

You got me there; it's a piece of crap with a piece of crap V8 in it. Maybe the new owner can throw a few grand at it and make it the best V8 C210 skyline EVER, or leave it as is and impress us all by doing an enormous one-wheel-burnout in the wet.

Hey hey, the guy who brought my car is the owner of this monstrosity but he assured me that it would stay L powered (because of the noise they make)

He sent me some pics, new wheels(simmonswoot.gif) and porn tail lights.

Still hate myself for selling it, cheers Dan

So this guy bought your car (which is L24 if I remember) and sold off his V8 Skyline... Did he mention if he was letting the V8 go for legal (rego/RWC) issues, or because he was keen to go original (well substantially more original anyway) or for some other reason not covered here?
