slippylotion
Hey I finally seen my NM35 today at my mates compliance shop. Very happy with it. Im going to start servicing it tomorrow and Im trying to sort out what oils it needs. Ive been searching through all the threads on here to check what weight oils I need but its very unclear and messy in the threads. I think the list below is correct, can someone let me know what weights are? Dont need brands, thanks. Engine: 5w-40 Oil filter: NIssan Front diff: 75w-90 GL4? Rear diff: 80w-90 GL5? for LSD. Also not sure if it has LSD or not, I assume the weight will differ between the two? If so what are the correct weights for either LSD or NON LSD? Transfer case: Matic J Trans: Matic J Attesa: ? Brakes: DOT 4 Coolant: Nissan Also I rang Nissan today for a price on the passenger cam cover seal, its ~$30 and 3 weeks from Japan. Anyone know who might have them in stock now? Thought I would just do the gasket at the same time as the spark plugs to save doing it later down the track if needed. If there is anything else I have missed please let me know. Cheers guys Edited July 11, 2011 by slippylotion Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/370652-does-250t-rs-four-have-an-lsd-changing-all-oils-during-service/ Share on other sites
bigkevracer
If it has an LSD it needs an LSD additive in the diff oil. I'm pretty sure if it has HICAS it has an LSD. I used the same weight in the front and rear diffs, think it was 75w90, and the same oil in the transfer case and trans. I believe you can use the same in the ATTESSA and power steering too (I never changed it). I went 10w40 for the engine, but close enough. It's all close to personal preference. Filter is the same as a 350Z... that's been covered many, many times. Funnily enough, I called Valvoline's info line, and they had NM35 Stageas on file, knew all about them, and knew all about the different oils and fluids. There is a thread which makes this clear, it's just the brand that varies. Valvoline and I think Nulon make a Matic J equivalent if you can't get the Nissan stuff. I paid about $120ish for a 20L drum. ironpaw
Just get your vin and run it through fast... It's possible for the rs to have hicas/lsd Edited July 11, 2011 by ironpaw Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/370652-does-250t-rs-four-have-an-lsd-changing-all-oils-during-service/#findComment-5908499 Share on other sites
bigkevracer
Mine has neither LSD nor HICAS. I believe an LSD was an option on the RS, mine just doesn't have it. Haven't bothered to research them yet to work out if I can get one to fit, not high enough up the priority list. Also found the rear diff on mine had a magnetic sump plug. Think the front did too, but not the actual engine. Daleo
As others have said; if you have HICAS, you have LSD. The HICAS rack is very obvious when you stick your head under the back end. I have a 250t RS Four and it has HICAS & LSD; is good . A quick look should answer your question. If you want to cover your arse; it won't do any harm to use an LSD oil in a normal diff, the LSD oils just don't have friction modifiers in them. Also regarding the Rocker Cover Gasket; I got one last week and it had to be ordered in; only took a week. Depends when in the cycle you make the order; it could be the day before they ship their 2 weekly lot; could be the day after. I've never waited longer than 2 weeks so far. slippylotion
Ok. It doesnt have HICAS so Ill asume its not LSD. So are the oil weights listed above correct? Seeing as the rear diff is not LSD I will use the same 75w-90 oil weight as the front diff. Ill also use matic d for the power steering and ATESSA. Thanks Edited July 11, 2011 by slippylotion Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/370652-does-250t-rs-four-have-an-lsd-changing-all-oils-during-service/#findComment-5908658 Share on other sites
bigkevracer
When I did my research I found that power steering and ATTESSA weren't that fussy. You could use the same fluid as you did in the trans. Daleo
When I did my research I found that power steering and ATTESSA weren't that fussy. You could use the same fluid as you did in the trans. Yep they're just hydraulic pump circuits; any hydraulic fluid would do (any ATF type) there's only pump vanes & seals. It's only when you introduce friction materials (clutch plates, bands); the type of fluid must match the friction material. zei20l
Ill also use matic d for the power steering and ATESSA. whatever you do DONT put that in the transmission, ONLY matic J or synthetic equivalents Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/370652-does-250t-rs-four-have-an-lsd-changing-all-oils-during-service/#findComment-5908699 Share on other sites
KiwiRS4T
Does the m35 have only proper mechanical LSDs? Some C34s have a viscous lsd which is a sealed unit so that ordinary diff oil can be used in the diff. On the other hand I have an R33 GTR mechanical diff in mine (as does the 260RS and maybe some other) and I use Motul Gear Competition 75W-140 (for lsd) in that. zei20l
i would imagine its viscous. a mechanical diff in a family wagon? yeah not a good idea lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/370652-does-250t-rs-four-have-an-lsd-changing-all-oils-during-service/#findComment-5908866 Share on other sites

Daleo
i would imagine its viscous. a mechanical diff in a family wagon? yeah not a good idea lol I'm not sure; mine's pretty notchy under power, feels nothing like my old cone LSD that was preloaded to the shithouse; much tighter... Might just be that they don't cop such a hard time at stock power output; so they're nice & fresh.
