Same here - awesome day, really stoked with my 1:59.5999. Pretty happy for my first ever car track day, car performed great.

To go any faster I need:

A) bigger gonads

B) more handling

C) more powaaaa

Great day here too - lucked out on the weather. Fastest was a 1:55.89 in the second session, but last session felt best had tyre pressures right and everything working but ended up with a 1:56 flat fastest lap stuck behind someone. Something to look forward to next time!

So what did car 9 do? Missus went in to drop our dorian back and they were all in a huddle with him asking about avenues for appeal. Bit disappointing that we all need to suffer considering the $$ we sink to get down there - was really hoping for one more session.

btw folks, if it was your first track day let me know what SAU class you are in so I can classify you.

That's me - modified class.

Apparently he went via an emergency lane and got onto a track without being waved through, then he "missed" 2 black flags. I was also disappointed - not fair to penalise the entire field because of one guy misbehaving. We lost 1.5 hrs of track action because of it.

Track would have closed at 5, so only 20 mins of action was lost.

Yes disappointing about that and Danny having a hero moment in the Evo during the passenger laps, which canceled that for the day.

Think the Hay Shed straight up the hill (ie not on the track) through lukey and stopping on the outside on the top of lukey. I think that is what happened anyway, by the time I got there, grass all over the place and the car pointing the

wrong way at the top of lukey.

Weather was on the mark, though imo the track wasn't in good condition. We had to contend with oil, water, stones and grass all over the damn thing. Pretty inconsistent.

Great day and well run to get us through 6 sessions. Well done to Royce and the team.

Thanks to those who helped out and showed the first timers around the track in the first session. Very beneficial, again thanks to Royce for working with us to make it happen.

I can't say enough about the weather on the day, not a cloud in the sky. I found myself looking out the window more in the first session than at the track...ha

1-2 tenths off my PB, just couldn't get the tyre pressures spot on.

Great to see so many people out, I can see the hunger has defiantly started for a few. Next PI day is PIARC on Oct?!?!

Next round for us is September the 24th @ Sandown.

I have a bunch of video from the Red E36 M3, my car and the White R33GTR with RPF1's

Makes the PB's an even better achievement.

:rofl2:

As others have said it turned out to be an awesome weekend at the island weather wise. Thanks to all the peeps involved in the running of the day. It was a shame that some drivers were seen to be doing the wrong thing....not good considering there was a CAMS official checking all the T's were crossed and the i's dotted.

I managed to convince the missus to come for a passenger lap - I figure that she has put up with a lot so it was time for her to see what it was all about. I was warned by a mate that there were two possible outcomes

1) She loves it and wants to take over the driving role -or-

2) Cracks the sh#ts and makes me swear I'll never do it again.

After screaming her way around most of the corners for two laps either she lost her voice or got used to it. Turns out neither of the above two outcomes eventuated but she enjoyed it, got to see what it was all about and found out why I'm exhausted by the time I get home :)

Congrats to all those who set PB's and I'm wrapped with my PB of 1:46.78 and considering the state of my tyres I'm not sure there was too much more in it. When I came back after that session my front left was literally bald as all who saw it can attest to! I'll put some new rubber on and we will repeat that battle Chris ;)

Now for the disappointment....my new in car camera :( After watching John's footage from Sandown I invested in a Contour GPS cam. When it arrived it certainly looked the goods and after a little bit of testing at home all looked good. When I got home and hooked it up to the computer I was dismayed to find that it only captured two of my 5 or so sessions...none of which were good ones. Not sure what happened but I operated the camera in exactly the same way as I did for the sessions it worked in...turn camera on, see green light and flip the slider to record, see red light, strap in and go. The difference was that when I flipped the record slider back after the session the red light was no longer on and it didn't beep when it finished recording. Not only did I loose some classic footage but the ones that did record you can't see anything out of the windscreen  The inside of the car is nicely white balanced but the view out of the windscreen is a white out :( I'm sure the last part is my fault (I probably had it on the wrong exposure) but even so....any ideas with this John?

Also would love to see some flamage shots of my car if anyone has any :D

Given the awesomeness of the day, my first outing in the new toy could have gone a little better.

Something is causing engine knock (and even back-firing at high rpms) so it meant I had to basically run part throttle all day for the laps I did do.

Still - the car will be pretty cool once the guys figure out what is wrong with it (fingers crossed its an easy non expensive fix!)

It's unbelievable how much more slippery this car is to the old one. I hate to image what speeds it will do down the straight once we can give it the full beans.

Despite not being able to go maximum attack all day I did learn a fair bit about the handling. And thanks to Paul I was able to get a good feel on the differences between the old worn OEM rubber and some old worn R Comps. I've put together a quick vid show my best laps on the street rubber V R comps - its a fairly different beast. So anyone who hasn't run on R Comps before can see just how much they change the attitude of the car.

I don't think it is wise to mount to camera further back than the front of the rear quarters. Not sure where you mounted yours.

There is a setting for spot metering, ie metering in the centre of the image. Make sure the centre of the camera is pointing outside the car. not on the dash or anything.

As for it not recording....WTF! annoying. I turn mine on, wait for all the lights and noises to stop, then flick the slider.

On the weekend with the 8GB on 1080, you will have filled it in 4-5 sessions.

Do you need maw power or more balance Matt?

ABS in or out this time around?

A bit of both! What happened in that clip was my fault, I was off line and trying to turn in too quick. I pulled the ABS fuse after the first session as it doesn't behave on the track. Remember I was telling you I wasn't happy with the balance of the car, had too much understeer... dropping the tyre pressures helped with handling but overall I just need more seat time. Still have to do some setup tweaks but I'm keen to hit up Sandown next month. My VCT is also playing up, waiting for my new one to arrive.

Oh and I can always use more powahh.. judging by the speed that silver V8 supercar thing passed me on the straight I'm about 200kw short

From full charge the maximum powered on time is just under 2 hrs. Anything you can record in that time is only limited by your SD card capacity.

Maybe after the session Ant flipped the slider back, but didn't also turn off the unit itself. It will turn itself off after 15mins, but that's 15mins of power wasted.

Yeah I'll have to check the metering but I don't think I changed it which means its centre...based on what I can see the centre of shot was the front windscreen but will have to check the settings and go from there. The metering issue isn't what pi$$es me off the most, that is the recording issue....I did exactly that - turn it on wait until I saw a green light at the front and then flicked the slider which turned the light red. As I said the funny thing is that it worked for two sessions and didn't work for the rest. The card def wasn't full and there was plenty of battery.

Loved the footage 'ants new blowtorch' and would love a copy of the original.

yeah great day and everyone seemed to have a great attitude. Stoked with a sub 2 min first time at the island. Thanks Chris for the coaching!

No probs. Happy to help out. Great job by the way - massive improvement from the first lap out to the final seesion. You're a natural.
