Just the factory one.. seems accurate enough.. only want to run 1bar so should be fine.

while we are talking boost something i have always wondered about.. with my m35.. if i am sitting on about 70-80kmh and put my foot down about say 1/2 throttle (so a decent amount though not too much).. i will see 14 pound tho the car barely goes anywhere.. this is the first turbo car i have seen where more boost does not neccessarily mean more power to the wheels how the f*k does that happen???

though of course if i put my foot down 3/4 or all the way the boost come on the same way though its all smiles..

hmm you could be right.. though seems odd even at that.. 5th gear at 80kmh at 12psi still should haul i would have thought.. tho maybe not.. will knock it back into 4th and try again :)

well yeh pretty much what craig says. theres a mod i could do for it, but your fuel will pretty much go out the window.

Ok i had a shot at this on the weekend. seems to have worked (boost is going up when i dial it up!) :)

Just showing you what i did so people can comment on a better way or if i did it wrong..

So i removed the factory boost solenoid completely. and simply plugged in a turbosmart in its place. Mounted it up to the same bracket job done! :)

boost comes on a fair bit quicker.. no more two stage and now sitting at 1bar.

though it seems like the turbo might be running out of puff up top.. boost seems to drop down once i hit a bit over of 5k..

and ive just realised you have it plugged in the wrong way.

youre basically on maximum boost and will blow things up pretty soon.

the bleed valve goes between the vacuum line from the intake piping, down to the wastegate actuator.

you have it plumbed into the vacuum waste back into the intake before the turbo.

Those Turbosmart ball and spring style controllers are supposed to be plumbed between the manifold and the wastegate actuator. Follow the hose down to the actuator line, remove the T piece and put the controller in its place with the arrow towards the turbo. The lines will be too large though I think, you may have to run a bit of smaller diameter rubber tubing with some joiners, I used a bit of alloy tube and cable ties.

That said it will work as you have hooked it up, I ran mine like that for a while. Do you have a proper boost gauge? Boost may well drop later in the revs as the turbo runs out of puff up there.

if he has removed the factory actuator, then its not going to work setup like that.

from the picture, it looks like its plumbed between the actuator line and the bleed into the inlet to the turbo (always vacuum) so it will never open the wastegate.

is it supposed to be plumbed between a pressure line (ie after the turbo) and the actuator?

if the stock solenoid was in there, then yeah ok it will work fine.........

thanks for the comments guys. your exactly right scotty its loosing a bit of puff up top.. thought that might be the wastegate though.. i am just using the factory boost gauge currently.. i dont see a reason to change :)

dont think your right zei20l cause if i close the tap completely i run 7psi (approx wastegate pressure).. i turn it up and up it goes.. i run 10.. then 12 then 14.. so its working as it is right now..

if the ECU throws a CEL what will my symptom be? its been unplugged for approx 100kms so far without issue..

No, should be cool. Im fairly sure you can just bypass the factory solenoid altogether for our usual high boost level as the brass restrictor is still in the line to the T piece.

The stock solenoid usually opens to allow 14psi, bleeding off the excess pressure back to the intake. If it is closed then the boost will remain low as with cold starts. As Iain said you may get an engine light if the solenoid isnt plugged in, and the map sensor may cause one to show anyway if you bump it up too much.

i thought id do a bit of debrief.. well first thing the car is much nicer to drive! heaps more boost downlow and gets on boost much faster.. very happy with it so far.. done 200kms no error yet for not having the factory unit plugged in.. only thing i dont like is that it seems have trouble running anything over 12psi.. occasionally it will run 14 though it seems to have trouble holding it even lower in the rev range.. does this mean i need a scotty special wastegate spring? :)

more than likely.

The restrictor is inside the hose, replacing the hose will remove it.

That controller should sit inline between the boost source and the actuator, with no bleed setup required. I explained it the other day buddy.
