Ive just bought a HKS 2835 Kai which is due for delivery this time next month and im wondering if anybody has figured out why they arent producing good hp figures like the Pro S

Does anybody know whats difference between the the 2 apart from the less torque and slightly more power and the surge slots in the front of the housing???

The Pro S has the HKS special rear housing which appears to be appropriately designed for the GT30 turbine family. It requires the HKS dump pipe to work and is a fairly trick piece of kit.

The KAI has adopted the GT28 based HKS housing from the GTRS... It bolts to the factory design RB dump flange and is generally a more compact unit.

I have not read heavily into the KAI as once I saw the results I decided the Pro S was the one to have.... Hopefully one of the KAI boys can talk about their experiences and can confirm the part number on the CHRA (I would want to know it is the same unit). But there are already a couple of KAI threads you would want to look for.

Well i hope that they arent a poorer performer because i bought 1  hahaha!

I just cant imagine hks making this turbo less effective than the older kit as HKS always do their homework with their turbos (in the past at least!)

If anybody has any news on their Kai turbos please let me know

THANKS

I'm in the middle of experimenting with a variation to the KAI. Its a temporary "fix" I guess just waiting on a dyno ATM (tune getting touched up on the road this weekend)

I will share my results with HKS and then see if there will be any follow up (if the new setup out performs the old, it feels much better ATM anyway)

As far as I know I'm the only one on these forums at least doing any testing but if anyone else is this is where I guess they will be posting

Hey Cal i have seen ya pics of what u have done so far. think ill get another housing machined up without the surge slots like you have done i hope the dyno is kind to ya mate cause i can see you are doing ya homework on it im thinking of a way how to fill in the counter sunkholes where the housing bolts onto the front of the turbo too maybe with a metal putty or something???? but im kinda scared of the putty not bonding properly and sucking it through the turbo

Yeah I wouldnt use anything like that

I had thought about blocking up the holes with grub screws or something (threading them then putting grub screws in) but didnt think it was a great idea to do that. The cover doesnt have any form of seal (apart from the metal to metal flat surfaces) which isnt really a problem in normal form but I figure I'm probably getting a minor leakage. Thats why what I'm doing is a "quick fix" to see if it works before pursuing another alternative. I'm in contact with HKS about it, and if it provides gains I will be asking them for a Pro S front housing to put on to get some proper results.

Thats about all I can tell you at the moment. It's all trial and error at the moment.

If you want to get a new housing machined for your turbo, PM Hypergear (Stao). He is who gave me the original idea to block the anti surge slots and was pretty damn helpful about the whole thing. he was willing to machine a new front housing for it but I dont have the time to take the car off the road and send the turbo down to him.

I've never seen someone be able to get try and be cranky with me, while they're holding back fits of laughter... 😛   Also, I tell mine it's payback anyway. She has BiPolar. So the household can get quite emotionally wild at times 😛
    • I'm not up to date on the latest, but for basic modifications like pod filter, lower springs etc you can get a modification permit at the time of inspection.  For more serious modifications you will need engineering.  Intercoolers used to fall into the mod permit rule but its been a long while since i looked it up.   Either way you will be able to get it registered, just a case of $300 vs $3k .
    • Hi everyone! I’m the new owner of a 1996 R33 GTS-T, I’ve purchased this car over from Queensland and brought it to Western Australia and I’ve found that there is a hole cut out in the engine bay for the FMIC that enters into the wheel well (fender liners are in the boot). For anyone that has had to get their car over the PITS here, will this be a major issue?
    • Yeah I've spotted this one too, whenever it's lotto superdraw week and I'm browsing car sales dot com for my new ride They must be dreaming, maybe it's worth 150k for the link to Brock?
    • 100% accurate!  We are a pack of know it alls....  But, I bet people go to you when they have a problem! I've been on a bit of a clean up rampage too over the past month!  I've thrown more shit in the bin over the past 2 weeks than I have in the past 3 years combined! Anyway, it's all good fun being different! My wife sometimes does not agree!
