just wondering if anyone has had this issue? its only recent since it was retuned with a new turbo setup and a bit more power.

car is putting out 255rwkw at the momoent on 17psi running a t67. the gear box has a keys valve body and shift kit, and for some reason its started slipping when warm. its got a PWR oil cooler, im going to change the fluid in it this weekend, but im wondering if maybe the torque converter has shit the tin. the gearbox is healthy, changes fine and hard as ever, but not making any power to the wheels, just feels like a slipping clutch, comes on boost and the engine revs but puts through no power to the rear.

good timing in a way as i just got a quote for a 4500rpm stall converter and transbrake from TCE converters in melb, might have to change it earlier than i thought.

so any ideas?? do you guys think the converter is the the issue?

If your gona change the oil, take the oil pan off the bottom off the transmission don't just take the drain plug out. A quick look inside and into the filter will reveal if there is any damage to the unit as there will be friction material present

I had a similar problem, changed over to some really generic Falcadore gearbox oil, Valvoline ATF DX-3 and had a massive improvement which literally eliminated slip. A very cheap and quick thing to try.

as good as that may seem, theres no point as im trying to make more power not cut corners.

when i do the oil, i will change the filter aswell, so ill take a goo look around, but as previously mentioned, the gearbox itself feels ok, so im hoping its the converter. In say that though, i need to make sure its the converter not the box, because if its the box, im going to replace it with a ford C4 gearbox built for the strip which was planned if the rb25 box blew up, i dont want to spend 1.5k on a new stall converter for the 25 box, only to find out the box is rooted and have to get another converter for the C4 lol, big waste of cash.

anyway, ill open it up when i can, and see what i find. other than that, i guess i could always just take it back to knox automatics where it was built and have them check it out and service it.

Changing oil isn't cutting corners, it was more to prove that something simple can often be the fix. Too many people on here look for the most complex reason they have a fault and it normally isn't the case. I'm also a big advocate for not spending a billions dollars on oils, especially with the amount of driving people do on here. Both my R34's I racked up over 100,000kms on them, stuck to $40-$50 oils and never had a single problem with the cars and both were making decent power and were well driven.

    • From my bolts, standard M8 with 1.25mm thread pitch (M8x1.25mm).    Length is 19mm under the head and has a captive 18mm OD flat washer.   20mm length from a bolt shop is what you'll be able to get.   Make sure they're zinc plated.    If you're concerned about strength, grade 8.8 will be more than enough. Original PN is 01121-04971.  Now discontinued according to Amayama but that's because it's one of the parts that's been captured by the Heritage program, which explains the ridiculous price.   New PN is 01121-RHR20: https://nismodirect.com/nismo-heritage-bolt-pin-hinge-hood-bnr32-nissan-skyline-gt-r-01121-rhr20-01121-04971/ About AUD33 converted from Yen in the above link but that's just one example.     • Well, if that filter was impeding fluid flow, then it could have similar effects to faulty solenoids. The TCU will register a fault when it does something (ie, changes the state of a solenoid) and does not detect the required result. If there are other causes that can make the same lack of result, then they will be indistinguishable to the expected cause for which the TCU has a code.
    • Yellowjackets, red ones, blue ones (other than Splitfire) have all been demonstrated to be unreliable on turbo engines. That unreliability can be anything from outright failure (ie, 4 out of a set of 6 working out of the box) to just not being strong enough for the task, on a boosted engine. Not enough of us care about NA engines to know whether that unreliability is an issue for the undemanding needs of an NA RB20. I should think though that the DIS-008 should fit the 20. There's not really any reason for the head/coil mounting area to be any different on those 2 Neos. I wouldn't be buying Splitfires, or any other old tech coilpack, for a car in this day and age though. I would buy modern pencil coils and do what needs to be done to adapt them to the loom. That's relatively trivial these days, with numerous kits for fitting R35, or Audi, or Yaris/Corolla coils.

    • Hi. Which coilpacks can i use in my engine? I looked at the Splitfire but the closest "match" i found was SP-DIS-008 but even that they do not show RB20DE NEO so iam not 100% sure. Or maybe different one which will 100% work? I saw many on ebay but they are some cheap "strange" ones. What about Yellow Jackets? Many thanks 🙂
