Saw this earlier today, was shocked to see the GT-R on Top Gear in the first place, didn't expect it, then when they did the lap... Was like heaven for me.

To be faster than cars worth FOUR times its value (in some cases more) is an achievement in itself. Nissan should be so proud of what they have achieved. Really, faster than a normal Veyron? Zonda? Enzo/458? What a giant killer, and the fact it has rear seats!

Did I hear correctly that the Jag only does the Ring in 9 Odd minutes ?

If so what is even the point of the match up Lol ?

Maybe they should have lined it up against a 33 haha.

I was thinking that too!

not really fair to run the drag race in the wet, but that Jag didn't stand a chance in the dry either

sooo composed on the lap, eerily similar to the way Mr Bean drove his lap... I guess smooth is fast, damn, that's just no fun!

The GTR looks like ridiculous fun in the wet... they should have a 1 make series with standard GTRs... all run on ice/snow in Sweden lol

edit - im sure a set of toyo triple 8s would be even grippier again

you're kidding right? even ths original dunlops (and the bridgestones for that matter) were miles quicker on a track than 19inch R888s. the new SII dunlops will be faster again. R888s on a R35 is not a happy combo. you will go slower on them than on the standard run-flats. unless somethings changed since I tried them in 2008?

The way to make them work Beer Baron is with a little 'Willall magic'

What we do is run all four factory rear GTR rims on the GTR. Our front camber arms make this possible. Then....stretch the 285 Toyos on the wider rear GTR rims (285s all round)....then set the pressure right, and they are ok :)

The stock fitment of the 888 is not correct for the GTR rim when you look at the sideloading the car puts on the carcass :)

meh it's a moot point for me anyway because i run 21" wheels and r888's arent available

ive pretty much already max'd out the grip from my yoki advans in 1st and 2nd with intake/exhaust/tune bolt on's

im looking at the michelin super sports next (afaik they are a cut slick like the oem bridgestones), but closest size they offer for the front will throw my speedo out 2.5%

so if/when i need the extra grip, looks like ill have dust off my stockers

Stretch...isn't 285 a standard tyre width on the rear?

Sure is :)

Toyo supply a 315 for the rear......hence my point

So if you were going down the R888 path and didn't have the 10.5" rims for the front you'd still go 285 R888s all round? They may be too wide for the front but at least you'd have the optimum fitment for the rears?

thanks for the explanation martin. that makes perfect sense to me because my biggest feeling was they were moving around a lot on the sidewalls which was overheating the tyres and also causing some slip too at the limit. with them stretched out a bit which would stiffen them up a lot I can see they would be much better. that certainly is the problem, too soft sidewall. I was miles quicker on track on stock dunlops (and the bridgies too for that matter) than I was on 19inch R888s. but your method definitely has some logic behind it. :)
