Check Engine light came on today!

I got the error code using the method here:

http://www.skylinesa...ost__p__5616852

ERROR: P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Few questions:

1) What the hell?

2) Can the car be driven (short distances)?

3) What the hell?

4) Does anyone know an estimated cost I might be looking at?

5) Anyone have any preferred fixer uppers in the Parramatta region? I did have a list of a few good mechanics but lost it.

ETA: The only things that are 'wrong' when you drive is at a stop there is a small shake to the car.

Had that error in January this year.

Replaced all three sensors with known working ones, but didn't fix mine.

Mine wouldn't really hold revs properly in startup, shuddered sometimes whilst driving (!!!), generally an unhappy car.

Took it to Nissan who nearly killed my starter motor (why do they never listen to instructions?).

Their Consult 3 stated that it was a "Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction Bank 1".

After a small argument with the "tech" about which sensor to use (he was wrong, again), all three were replaced (both cam sensors and the crank sensor) and no change.

Turned out to be one of the prongs in the plug was bent and not contacting properly, it was straightened and haven't had a prob since.

I know, long story... hope you get yours fixed up quick :)

Ahhhh.

Will ring Parramatta Nissan on Monday in that case. Shouldn't be too exxy. Good timing though since my tax return came in 4 days ago.

I'll get some part numbers together. Question: If I specify a part that it requires and they put something else on causing damage are they liable for putting incorrect parts on my car?

Okay. Nissan Parramatta won't fix my car for me. Hmph. Another mechanic will be sought.

Mate if you want to come and try some sensors before you go ahead and by all three your welcome to.....Also try Hornsby Nissan and talk to John.

PM sent with my number

Jetwreck, missed your PM but thanks for the offer - unfortunately it is currently at Hornsby Nissan.

Good news: It is the cam sensors. Bad news: There is additional issues.

Somehow I managed to overfill my oil which is why there is some extra smoke. Nfi how I managed that. Something to do with some wheel bearings as well. Plus a partial service which will set me back $1200.00

Could be worse I suppose. Ohhh, the most awful part was getting the train home. Hornsby to Parramatta should be a whole lot quicker on public transport.

Can't be that bad. I did it for 6 months 10 years ago...LOL

Probably faster during peak hour...maybe >_<

I live 4km from work so haven't caught public transport for over 8 months :P I hate sydney trains.

Not to mention 1 way tickets from hornsby to parramatta are $4.70 each! That's how much I used to spend for a return to the city from parra.

Just reporting back in case someone searches in the future.

Got the car back minus $1240 or so.

From memory the sensors were $180 or so each, the bearing thing was $240 I think and the rest was in labor.

Very friendly guys and the car was left very clean. Had a chat afterwards as one of the guys there own a Stagea as well. We laughed at how I managed to get 6L of extra oil in the car and then stopped laughing when I realised the ramifications of doing so :P It happened when the engine light came on and I asked the GF if it was the oil light and she said I think so. I just dumped 4L in the car on the spot without double checking as I only had 2 hours sleep in 48 hours. Heh.

But yeah, happy with the service. Annoyed at the train I got on. Recommended.
