first of all does anyone have a service logbook they can scan or copy???

i would just like to know the service intervals for each part of the car as per the manufacturers specifications

ie:

oil: 6months or 5000km

filter: every second oil change

spark plugs: 40,000km

coolant: 3 years

fuel filter: 40,000km

air filter: 40,000km

brake fluid: 2 years

Drive belts: 50,000

etc etc etc

note: mine are probly not correct but gets the idea across..........

yeah pretty close

oil 10k

filter same time

spark plugs 80-100k

coolant 2 years or 40k

fuel filter 2 years or 40k

air filter? chnge when it looks dirty lol or 2 years 40k

brake 2 years or 40k

drive belts 80-100k

some people change oil at 5k, but to me thats overkill with a decent oil. manufacturers are pushing cars to 12.5k and 15k service intervals

manufacturers are pushing cars to 12.5k and 15k service intervals

yeah reason is they dont want cars to last past the warranty period and shit themselves soon after by not being service correctly.......... yeah maybe the oils are getting better but hay i'd rather stick to 5000km no matter what.

but then im not gonna buy Motul either!!!

5k is overkill IMO

someone is gonna say 'ohh its an import, so its needs 5k oil changes'

contrary to popular belief, imports ARE the same as every other car in the world. they take the same oil, same filters, and even other fluids are the same AND can be found locally.

ill stand by 10k for services :P

Most manufactures still do oil and filter at 7500km intervals. In a turbo engine I wouldn't go longer than 5000km even with a quality oil and a quality oil is what you should run regardless!

maybe in a diesel. even then for non-commercial vehicles they are pushing oil changes..........

lol this topic always becomes an argument.

i do 5000km changes, but only coz i up'd the power a fair bit, and i like to drive spiritually

Is that because you think you're gonna die when you drive, or you gone & got religion all of a sudden? lol

I understand an import is no different to any other car. I look at it like this. Newer engines run a lot tighter clearances than older engines and also newer engines run a higher water temp as standard, most NA petrol engines run at just over 100deg C compared to our 82ish. The higher water temps helps with fuel economy. I would assume that will translate to the oil working a little bit harder. Then chuck in the extra temp from a turbo and bam! I therefore change every 5000km.

extra temp from a turbo?

but you have just said they run at 82 degrees. i agree fairly normal for our engine.

youve also contradicted yourself saying the oil is working harder due to higher engine temps, but service intervals have extended.

anyway, i see what youre going with. but having a turbo makes stuff all difference to service intervals. as long as they are done! and an oil flush helps a lot

The new cars I have seen have changes at 7500 intervals. Im sure my parents ford territory and brothers xr6 turbo run these intervals. I'll stick to my 5000 km intervals.

Also not a fan of oil flush. I havent heard of dealers using them and if I did, to me, the oil just needs changing more often to avoid any sludge build up. Oils these days have good detergents so when changed at correct intervals you shouldnt need to use oil flush.

Water temp maybe 82deg but I would have thought the oil and water running through a turbo would spike the temps until cooled again. Just thinking out loud.

territory and xr6t is 15k mate :P

as for the oil flush, fiat/alfa wont do an oil change without the flush first.

maybe for 15k service intervals, they perform a flush also? i wonder how many other dealers/brands do this.

Don't forget that some manufacturers also add interval changes for city use , giving you 7500km.

I know for a fact my brother doesn't service his at 15k intervals.

Anyway, all the engines I've built for myself have had oil changed at 5000km intervals and very clean inside with no oil flush used. I'd prefer to spend a bit more on more frequent changes to keep it clean.

Service intervals are dependant on the quality of product imo e.g. cheap $40-$50 be prepared to do 5,000km services or risk your standard turbo dying......I know my oil is good for at least 20,000km's(the can say's 40,000km's not that I would do it).

With the oil and filters I use I am currently doing my service's at about 10,000 to 12,000km's and thats with the "occasional" spirited driveph34r.gif. But if I decide to do a track day, dyno run or drag's it get's a fresh load of oil.

Services are up to the owner but in my experience you get what you pay for with servicing......It saying that imo the best and cheapest way to do a service is to do it yourself that way what you save in service charges you get back in quality product's.banana.gif

lol, Only reason I can think of that your dealerships are saying 7500km services is because

a) they use a mineral oil/cheap fluids and filters

b) probably more to the point, more frequent services for their customers means more income.

If wondering about service intervals, see Iain and Craig's responses.

Also, our VQ25det Stagea's use the same OEM coolant, thermostat and same sized radiator as the VQ35de Skyline/350z's, so how would one run hotter than the other?

As they are the only guys that know anything???

Im out!

No, but they are definitely accurate when referring to M35 Stagea's and their service intervals.

Look, I've been running an M35 for over 4 years and have been servicing at pretty much the intervals Iain mentioned in the first reply.

220,000kms+ on my odo at the moment and the car runs nicely except for an exhaust leak (nothing to do with servicing and everything to do with a lack of spring washers when the turbo was done).

Hey, if you have the time to do 5,000km services with cheap oil/fluids, good for you.

I prefer to use high quality oils filters and fluids and do it myself every 10,000kms.

That way I know my car is getting looked after properly (I have seen what and how dealers "look after" an M35 Stagea when they service it  )

    • Went looking at mine, reading off the tyre, presumably these are 1st week of 2003. Still hold air (I haven't had to pump them up in over 12 months!)     I couldn't quickly find the date on the front tyres, they were fitted around 2008 to the rims, so probably not quite as old, but they have a lot more dry rot cracks in them. Still hold air.
    • I am now intrigued to go check the dates on the tyres on my Skyline... We need a game of who has the oldest tyre still holding a car up, and successfully holding air (for longer than a 2 weeks I feel is successful air holding).   I feel your tyres may be beating mine
    • Ok, still waiting for a date to get the cams installed on the MX5, why so long, because MX5 Mania has received a few new sets of different cams with different specs for the MZR and are currently trialling them, and working out what is best for 2.5 "powers" with stock internals, in the end if I go bigger than the Kelford stage 1 cams I'll need to look at the valve springs  Hopefully I'll get the news on them next week As for the boot of the car getting fixed, I hopefully pick it up early next week, I was sweating on picking it up yesterday but, meh, it was not to be, so ne weekend cruising for me
    • Ok got some old tyres for you guys...my car has been sitting around un-driven for about 6 years now. I had it on the original rims with the shitty compliance tyres it got it with back in 2006, which were manufactured in 2004... Sidewalls eventually rotted and split open, obviously no air in them and the rims were holding the car up. Just swapped them with some 17" Work rims and tyres which are probably 10+ years old too but at least holding air
