Hello again trusty skyline fans!:action-smiley-069:

Im about to upgrade my turbo and fuel system on my R33 GTST. Just done an E85 search online and realised that its at my local servo :thumbsup: so im wondering whats involved in getting my car drinking the E85 goodness?

Ive got a set of SARD 550cc injectors that i havent installed yet im just wondering if these injectors are suitable for E85 if not can they be modified to run it?

Can anybody fill me in on what else needs to be done??????

My fuel pump has been modified dont know what it is?

Im running a nistune computer dunno if its Z32 or RB20? (if thats relevant to my subject???) haha

Ive gotta Z32 airflow meter and a HKS 2835 kai turbo yet to be delivered

Id really appreciate a list of whats needed off somebody in the know! :thanks:

I do know i will get less K's to a tank but my ride is purely for fun!!!! not a daily driver so that isnt an issue for me.

i had mine on E85, all i changed was the tune.

my 600cc injectors hit 100% on 22psi making 300kw

tuned it fairly lean on cruise and still wasnt the best on fuel. but admittedly i dont cruise it all that much

BUT THEN

on my way back from a photoshoot in sydney i was down to the Empty line and had 40kms to get home, wasnt going to risk it so i put in 6litres of E10 :rant:

that was the turning point for me, i put it back to 98 last week,

things i liked about eflex is there is no soot all over your car and the smell, my setup is maxed out so i found no gains at all running E85 except for on the track, E85 has a higher knock limit so was a bit of reassurance

I would recomend just for the safety Insurance you get on your engine alone. Just got to consider if you dont mind being limited to where you can fill up and long trips are prob out of the questiOn. So if those points dont bother you theres nothing to lose with Plenty of gains.

i'll give you my R34 GT-T experience as that's a closer representation to your car.

I was running Nistune, 740 cc injectors, high flow turbo, z32 afm, drop-in Walbro replacement

i could get low 300km's to a tank around town.

So with the turbo you're getting (great choice by the way) you're probably best off to get some ID1000's (injectors), should be able to get into the 300rwkw's without too much drama :)

I wouldn't worry too much about your sards being compatible... as you'll need bigger ones anyway to be safe. You'll want to know what the fuel pump situation is like though.

With that turbo and E85, you'll be needing some decent suspension to help it stay on the road though! I had ku36's with bilstein/whiteline shocks/springs and pretty much the rest of the whiteline catalogue, swaybars, camber/caster kits, pineapples etc. That was enough to handle the 285rwkw i had with the GT-T

The other option is to sell the Nistune board (should go in a second if it's ready for the 33) and get a Link G4 and ethanol content sensor. Then you can setup flex-fuel and run any % of E85 or 98 unleaded. Never had to worry about running out of E85 as your ECU will change things on the fly for you depending on the fuel :)

I wouldnt do it unless you want just that little bit more power

Its got nothing to do with safety, and everything to do with running out of fuel. As DVS JEZ had already pointed out, it can be a hassle to find and uless you plan on carrying a jerry can with 20 litres in it the gain wont be worth the hassle

safety comes down to your tuner..... in order to maximise the E85 you will tune the car with more timing etc which throws the safety idea out the window.

You obviously dont know much about tuning with ethanol if you think there is no added safety with the benifet of more power. You can add more timing because you can with no signs of ping so its not as you said in order to get the benifets of ethanol you have to lose the safety of it. Besides availabilty there is no downfalls and even that now can be overcome with the ethanol sensor integration.

Maybe my post wasnt as clear as i thought it may have been.....

No fuel is safer than the next when it comes to custom tunes. You could give E85 to a dickhead and it doent mean the tune that the dickhead does is safer because of the E85. In this instance it is no different to giving said dickhead a laptop and a tank of BP Ultimate

The safety in my eyes, comes from the tuner, not the fuel. If you have a tuner that tunes on the ragged edge with every fuel does that mean E85 is suddenly safer..... the tuner is still tuning at 9.9/10ths, but the added advantage is it will make more power...

The tune in my car with BP 98 is no safer than the tune i have in the car on E85. It doesnt make as much power on 98, but the safety is stil there as it is tuned appropriately.

Does that make more sense?

Yeah i understand what your saying but in regards to tuner ability thats a different issue all together of course if they have no idea they will stuff up whatever they tune.

My point is say same tuner that knows what hes doing tunes a car On 98 with lets say 30 percent safety margin and then hd tunes on e85 he can leave a bigger margin for safety and still make gains over 98 thats my point that i was trying to put down.

I understand where your coming a bit better now, but i cant see why you would do that.... anyone of us that switch to E85 will be doing it for the gains obtainable from E85, so to tune it with an increased safety margin kinda seems silly to me.

Thats my theory, but i guess i havent built the car to cruise, i built it to drag race so the more power i make the faster i go. With the same safety margin built in to the tune as i had previously on BP Ultimate it obviously made a pretty decent difference given i gained 15mph and it put an ever bigger smile on my face :D

Im not saying to tune it and not get added power out of it. I dont uae it as a cruiser either its a track drift car. I made 40 kw from switching with a safer tune then i had on 98. Also did a drift day with my car leaning out because of a faulty cas and still alive if it was on 98 im sure it would of been dead.

So in my opinion you can get big gains and also increased safety.

I've got my GTR on E85 and i had changed injectors, added another fuel pump and retune.

seriously, there is no point running E85 for "safety" its costly to change injectors etc for little gains if your motor, turbo, AFM's or other gear are going to limit you to power you could easily achieve on PULP

i had my GTR running 21psi on PULP and getting 350rwkw, then went to E85, upped the boost to 24psi and got 370rwkw. the boost wont hold until redline it drops off to 20 or so PSI so that's why there is no huge gain in the top end. but midrange is crazy! and thats where most driving is done. torque difference is great.

then again, on my setup i was nearing the limit of PULP with the parts i had. if i had to do it again i probably wouldnt bother. the limited station and less ecconomy means with a spirited hills run i have a 20L jerry can in the boot just to make sure i don't run out of fuel.

for what you've listed, get your turbo, and injectors fitted and tuned on PULP and enjoy for a while and save up for E85 if you feel the need.

Good summary, so worth it if you have extra fuel flowing capacity but if you need to upgrade much dont worry about it. I made sure I got a larger fuel system then necessary so I had the option and just the cost of a quick tune to change to E85.

my suspension had all been done its gots cusco gear under it ive got a kaaz 2way LSD

a Jim berry modified standard clutch 3100lb clamping pressure just bought a full set of rda ultigroove slotted rotors

EBC red stuff pads and braided brake lines which is going on this weekend (gotta be able to stop faster with all the extra power!!!!!)

Im hoping the turbo does turn out to be a good thing and that ive made the right choice and im all bout midrange and the smile it gives me with my car :nyaanyaa: haha

ive heard joeyjoe fella using 550cc injectors with E85 making 320 or so rwkw my car is purely for thrills so fuel economy doesnt come into the picture for me.

Im a plumber by trade( i do have a good mechanical aptitude tho) :wacko: but im wondering if making extra power by changing fuel as apposed to mechanically I.E( more boost bigger cams etc) is it making my engine more reliable???? If that makes sense? haha
