Im hoping the turbo does turn out to be a good thing and that ive made the right choice and im all bout midrange and the smile it gives me with my car :nyaanyaa: haha

ive heard joeyjoe fella using 550cc injectors with E85 making 320 or so rwkw my car is purely for thrills so fuel economy doesnt come into the picture for me.

Im a plumber by trade( i do have a good mechanical aptitude tho) but im wondering if making extra power by changing fuel as apposed to mechanically I.E( more boost bigger cams etc) is it making my engine more reliable???? If that makes sense? haha

Hamish is doing this with a Pro S not a KAI

The KAI has proved disapointing in comparison. I pulled 243rwkw on monday with my new front cover. Mind you I havent pushed the tune yet (there are reasons behind this) but its a very slight gain over the standard front cover and its got a bit nicer curve

Just so you know, you wont be seeing 320rwkw on E85, the KAI is fairly more responsive at least by the looks of it, More like GT-RS sort of driveability

So he prob will get hes target of 270 on e85. Im running 555 also and making 307 kw. If you want to go down the sensor path its not as easy just hooking up the sensor. Youll also need a compatible ecu link, vipec etc. Theres a whole thread on it if you search.

Sorry mate, just read that Advan was doing the work.... if your wanting to get the ethanol sensor sorted out speak to Yavuz at Unigroup engineering. I have had brief talks about doing this to my car and Yavuz is all over it and has some ideas on how to tackle it. He knows his Links as well which is a plus

or go to JEM. they have fitted a number of cars with the zeitronix E content sensor (they are dealers for it). and tuned many cars on E85/Eflex etc now. I would talk to those guys.

I've got my GTR on E85 and i had changed injectors, added another fuel pump and retune.

seriously, there is no point running E85 for "safety" its costly to change injectors etc for little gains if your motor, turbo, AFM's or other gear are going to limit you to power you could easily achieve on PULP

i had my GTR running 21psi on PULP and getting 350rwkw, then went to E85, upped the boost to 24psi and got 370rwkw. the boost wont hold until redline it drops off to 20 or so PSI so that's why there is no huge gain in the top end. but midrange is crazy! and thats where most driving is done. torque difference is great.

then again, on my setup i was nearing the limit of PULP with the parts i had. if i had to do it again i probably wouldnt bother. the limited station and less ecconomy means with a spirited hills run i have a 20L jerry can in the boot just to make sure i don't run out of fuel.

for what you've listed, get your turbo, and injectors fitted and tuned on PULP and enjoy for a while and save up for E85 if you feel the need.

what turbos?

what turbos?

turbo's on mine are -5's

I'm thinking maybe an exhaust leak is contributing to the boost not holding at 24psi. because after a hard few goes at WOT on high boost i can hear a high pitched whistle coming from the engine anytime the turbo's spool.

i'm also getting very small amounts of blue smoke out the back of the muffler when i back off the throttle, some have suggested maybe turbo seals?

Hey cal spewing bout the turbo mate im not chasing that much power so i wont be too disappointed by not making that kinda power mate

So changing the front didnt get you more power mate?

ATM its a 3kw gain. But as I said I havent touched the timing really, just trimmed the AFR's to be alright.

So there might be a little more power in the tune, but the way I've modified it, it may have a slight leak so that could also be causing a loss in power (it is a temporary thing at the moment)

The main difference is overall driveability, it feels alot better on the street, slightly more responsive (not a great deal but) and I was having an issue with what sounded like surge at around 16psi in 5th gear (short version of what was happening) which has disappeared now.

So basically at the moment its an improvement. But its not on par with the Pro S

Yeah im thinking bang for my buck at the moment and since that i have my fuel injectors and other fuel system parts a servo a km away from my house that has E85 im thinkng once my turbo arrives and i install that and my fuel injectors Z32 afm im gunna need a tune anyways so its not gunna cost me any extra to run E85 and get the extra midrange plus the HP i was chasing with the Kai turbo kit since it doesnt seem to work as good as the Pro S kit that i just couldnt get my hands on! :domokun:

Lol thats ok mate if i go down the ethanol sensor and the link computer option i will prob get my link from Advan which im prob not gunna do now cos if my injectors will see my HP target im chasing ill be happy without spending the extra $$$$ and using the nistune

could be. still 350kw on pulp is right at the good end of power for -5s on 21psi so things seem fairly healthy. I would have expected a bit more like 380kw or so though with 3psi more boost AND E85 change. still I wouldn't be too concerned. fix the exhaust leak though, they certainly don't help.

Hrmmm whistling noise when the turbos are on boost..have a read of my thread from yesterday lol Mine was the gasket between the turbo and manifold :/

Im a bit annoyed with it really, I wanted to run 270rwkw on 98 and then when/if E85 ever comes out on pump where I live I was gonna have a "Race" E85 tune and then a daily tune that would run 270rwkw just on less boost.

At the moment Im just making 243rwkw on 18psi. Its disapointing seen as I ordered a Pro S at the time the started discontinuing them so I was told the KAI was just as good if not better. Doesnt seem to be the case

    • @DraftySquash @Duncan he's not talking about the part that sits against the radiator support, he’s talking about the lip that sits towards the front outside of the car. anyway I had a look at other cooling panels and came across this one https://justjap.com/products/carbing-radiator-cooling-panel-plate-nissan-skyline-r34-gt-t?variant=37829684134087&currency=AUD&utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=Advanced feed&utm_content=Carbing Radiator Cooling Panel Plate fits Nissan Skyline R34 GT-T (Coupe)&srsltid=AfmBOoonzPDKqe9NgKi5U0AkFc2XvbXETGmNWvfNcyBT5DUZagMYHg9DZ70 if you take notice it’s the same shape.  well thankfully the justjap listing has a description and it says : - Nissan Skyline R34 GT-T Coupe (M/T -07/2000) this means it’s specifically for a s2. S2’s have different front bars to s1 so that lip with the 3 holes are *probably* mounting points for the s2 bar. im not 100% sure but im almost certain it will still fit a s1 bar
    • Everyone is too used to learning from places like HPA "how to tune" and what to expect at what point, rather than being able to see "The computer says I'm in cell with Row = 8, column =4, and I can see my fuel is lean, so lets add more" Everyone wants "real units", which helps for someone picking it up for the first time and seeing how bad the tune is if they're not used to touching it.   However, I think for most of us who want to play with it, you're 100% right, we're only needing to learn about it for OUR CAR. Which makes it great, and we don't need to care what the real values are, we just need to know which cell it is, that's causing the lean or rich point, or that we want more ignition timing or less. But again, everyone wants everything super you beaut and nearly self tuning, with VE maps, and a billion compensations...   Though then there's me over here when I'm doing reverse engineering work just reading data in hex format that most people couldn't work anything out from. Yet I can see what's going on.
