Hi guys

I've been away from Performance cars for so long and i'm dying to get back into one.

The problem is, i'm not young anymore. On top of that, with family and stuffs, it doesn't make sense to own another Fast Gtr. I've been thinking for a while, i want another car and this car must meet all the criteria below....... (they all can be bought at around 20K - 30K)

1 - Torque

2 - Decent of Fuel

3 - Good Traction but can have go side-way when i'm bored :D

4 - Has enough room for 4

5 - Has enough room for my fishing rods, snowboard, groceries

6 - Nimble body and chuck-able

7 - Can drive a like Camry or shoot out flame when the throttle is open wide

8 - Great exhaust note

9 - Cheap and good availability of spare parts

10- Reliable YET can produce more than 250kw@4Wheels

11- Strong gear box that can handle the mentioned power of criteria 10 :D

12- Great response to mild/legal Mods

So, i've came up with a list of cars and excuses...

Evo Meet criteria 4,5,6,8, maybe 9,10,11,12.

Comments: 1st car on my mind, has many features that i want but still, great traction but not as fun as ATTESA, not that great on fuel.

Rex Meet criteria 3,4,5,6,8,10.

Comments: Similar to Evo but not as good.

Audi Quadtro Meet criteria 4,5,6, maybe more ?

Comments: Not much can be said here as i haven't own a Turbo Quadtro before but i could imagine this thing will cost an arm and a leg to maintain, mod...etc.

Chaser Meet criteria 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,10,12

Comments: Again, i haven't own one but along with the Rb26, 2JZ is as great but this doesn't REALLY give me the kind of traction like an Evo or a Rex if you know what i meant.

Stagea (Autec Version) Meet criteria 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,,11,12

Comments: Very close to what i want but to me, its Ugly :(

Legnum Meet criteria 1,4,5,7,12

Comments: Great looking wagon, decent standard package but i wouldn't imagine if its going to be reliable with mods to produce around 250kw@4W

Autec R33 GTR Meet criteria 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 LOL ;)

Comments: After much debates within my head, this car is a Win Win situation for me, it meets all the criteria that i want or in my perception anyway. Beside from this, i can't think of any other cars, i don't know much about Euro cars but i'd believe there are a few Euro cars that would make it to this list but i love my imports.

So, going back to the Topic, is it possible to find an Autec R33 Gtr in JP anymore? If so, can i obtain one at around 20 - 30K landed and compliance?

Good luck finding a decent low-km Autech sedan under $30K...

It's worth looking at JZX110s, given they can be bought in manual, are a much better quality car than the JZX100, and easily tuned. And no RWD car is going to give you traction like an Evo, that's the laws of physics ;)

If it was me, idd go either a JZX100/JZX110 or a RS260.

Only reason i say RS260 is i have a mate that owns one, he lugs EVERYTHING around in it. He had half a ton of bricks in the back of the stag at one stage.

If your planning on Lugging shit around, i cant see an Evo or a Rex giving you that Flexibility. Also you really wouldn't have the ability to Toe anything (to an extent) on either of those.

Legnums arnt too bad as a standard vehicle, i have a college at work that owns a vr-4 Galant (essentially the same thing). Though hes had a difficult time finding aftermarket support for the vehicle. However they are CHEEEEEEAP to buy. If you would be satisfied with the ~180kw they would produce without much work.

I've had no experience with Audi's so i cant comment there.

However from what i have seen most of the Autec R33 GTR's ive seen have been quite $$ to buy outright. Besides for anything above $25>30k would you really be satisfied with a 10>15 Year old vehicle?

Personally, love the Autech 33 GTR's, and besides ticking all of your other 12 points, it also ticks another one for me, extremely unique and different

I love chasers but they're way too docile looking, and i'm not a big bodykit kinda guy.

That aside, are 33 Autech's even eligiable for import into Aus?

yeah eligible but don't think anyones got compliance evidence for it. personally i've never seen an autech r33 gtr in sydney nsw.

I saw one at Winton and one while I was in Japan in the Super Autobacs carpark. They're definitely different. I'm not a '33 person but I kinda like them.

That's either a very good copy, or it has been thrashed like a red-headed step child - aftermarket front bar and series 1 headlights suggest it has had a front end hit at some point, crappy rear wing, badges in the wrong spots, ewwwww...

For what it's worth, the sedan body didn't like having the rear guards widened much - they are completely notorious for rust under the rear. Virtually every one I've looked at has it.

Dont mind a RWD car to be honest, use to have a 33gtst back in the days, great fun. I seriously consider the JZX100 but the problem is when I had the 32gtr, I'd never let the miss us drive it and I now feel bad :). What does this got to do with this new car that I intend to buy I? It's slightly safer than the JZX100, does not look as appealing ( minimize her from wanting to drive it Rolf ) as well!

I only wish if Nissan came up with the Legnum, then stick the Rb's or Sr in it, then Mitsubishi can have the Stagea and stick whatever engine they want in it hehehe, sorry Stag boys.

I worked through it with a workshop and we sussed out it was do-able - the evidence is a combination of R33 sedan and R33 GT-R.

I toyed with the idea of getting one when I bought my JZX110 :)

    • My hold point for future mods is that I want a OEM detachable hard top first, but, finding one is a pain, MX5 Mania are looking for one for me, but, as hens teeth are more common, finding one in Australia is proving problematic  I can get a OEM one from overseas, hell, you can still get new ones in 'Merica, but, shipping is a absolute killer and I cannot justify the cost, or the risk of it being damaged during transport As for the aftermarket hardtops, whilst they do the job of being a hard top, and are fine for a track car, they don't seal well (read: leak like a sieve in the rain), and you need a plastic/poly rear window, plus they are a bolt in option only and not made to be easily removed I liked how the hard top on my NB could be fitted, and removed, by myself, in less than 5 minutes I know it sounds bad, but I'm waiting for someone to write off a car with one so I can swoop in on their pain, it will go to a good home though, so my guilt of this is tempered

    • No, you don't want to plug the vacuum line, as that will turn that side of the booster into an air spring and probably make it feel worse. I'm not saying that the GTR master itself doesn't need a booster. I haven't paid attention to the GTR one to know what size it is cf the non-GTR ones. But when you think about it - they have to do the same job, which is to move a little slave piston a few mm to do what it is supposed to do, and that final action is the same on all the cars. So, it is very unlikely that the GTR MC is any different than the others, because it has the same pedal stroke and the same output requirement. The booster just makes it feel easier. I'd suggest you probably have an actual hydraulic problem. It's totally common on these old shitboxes.
