Too much Se is toxic - yes!

The amount in these formulae out there is optimal - not toxic.

Too much of many minerals is toxic.

Too much cyanidin or arsenic is toxic too; but many of our nuts and kernels have them.

TGA sets down how much Se can be included in a formula before it must be labelled "Schedule 4" and thus available only on a Dr's prescription.

Arh thanks Terry. It would make sense to limit the amount of a certain minieral considering mulit-vitamins/minerals are listed complementary medicines on the ARTG which only measure their safety and quality but not their efficacy hence being low risk by the TGA, however, manufacturers still have to comply according to GMP principles.

anyone here take fish oil?

feel any different on them? my cousin takes 8 capsuals a day and doesnt think they have any effect on him. but then my dad takes 4 caps a day and rekons it stops his knees from hurting at the end of the day.

interested to know about people's experience here. I am considering buying a tub and giving them a go.

I didn't respond to those in the Ultivite thread who posted with "no need for vitamins if your diet is good".

I know that my response will be better served here when I say that...

* those who believe that adage, "We are what we eat" have NFI !!!

* the fact is, "we are what we manufacture (or don't) - as well as what we eat, swallow, inhale, absorb and drink".

* our genes also help determine when our 'Use By' date is up

No-one can tell me that supplements and vitamins don't work!

To the dude who said there was no research that they do, Linus Pauling won the Nobel Prize for Medicine for his work on Vitamin C, and right up till to-day, there are people like Dr Robert Buist here in Aust. who have many journals about vitamins/supplements their dosages, when they work and when they don't depending on how they're taken. Buist has a Ph.D in Biochemistry - not a GP who has NFI (and who was fed vertical-thinking baloney at Uni like I was in Pharmacy). Nowadays, I think outside the square.

Terry not sure if that is in response to my comment however watching a well known doctor on a well know breakfast show saying that multivitamins are bad did get my attention as I do work in an industry which has a lot to do with health etc. of course not every thing we see on tele eg. Today tonight is unbiased, however being a specialist in the area I would love to hear your thoughts..

Agree with your comments about iron, folate etc just not sure as to why this article would even be allowed by specialists in your area? For example, if someone came on sunrise and said " fitness " is bad then multiple bodies associated with my industry would be getting involved, this happened when the music tariff tried to make its way into the fitness industry. Just surprised nothing was reciprocated from any multivitamin body???

Again, please don't displace my questions with any negativity against multivitamins to be honest I am very pro supplements eg protein, creatine just wanting more knowledge from someone who is a specialist in the area.

Interested to hear if anyone has tried 'Benifex' multivitamin?

My brother gave me a bottle (apparently from Aldi and cheap when comapred to Swiss etc), so I've been taking them but not consistently yet...

One thing I've noticed is it doesn't turn your urine fluro yellow like Swiss did...

My concern about taking sugar (= simple carbo) is purely based on the premise that glucose/sucrose, alcohol, recreational drugs, anaesthetics and paints work against the liver's capacity to manufacture precursor vitamins and amino acids.

Berocca used to contain heaps of sugar > shifted to 951 & 950 as many manufacturers of confectionery have > risky (health) business in the long term. :angry:

Benifex seems pretty mild. So what benefits do you wish to elicit dezz?

There are several forms of Vit B3 eg Nicotinic Acid, Nicotinamide, NADH etc.

* improves insulin resistance

* reduces cholesterol along with oats

* reduces one form of PMT along with evening primrose oil

* reduces passive/aggressive mood disorder via helping serotonin to work better

Need more than 100mg daily to be effective.

I take one a day, and I think it certainly helps with my mental focus - I tend not to wander off into dreamland at work as much!

Rather than create a new thread to address this, I figured I'd post my question in here.

Has anyone heard of or tried Alpha Brain by Onnit Labs?

It would be nice to hear Terry's thoughts especially on this type of product.

Basically it's a nootropic that claims to increase quality of REM sleep (whilst providing some fairly interesting dreams) and clear your mind throughout the day, as well as keep your thinking positive (increased mental focus etc.)

The ingredients are claimed to be all organic with no side effects.

The ingredients that help the production & efficacy of Acetylcholine would certainly help with short term memory in that Onnit Product.

However, the B6 level is too low to be effective towards the brain neurotransmitters called Dopamine and GABA.

It's interesting that it contains Theanine and Tyrosine, but the blurb doesn't say how much of each is present. Can you find out more before I comment further?

What I should mention though is that if Theanine and Tyrosine are to be efficacious, the formula would have to be taken at least 0.5hrs before food or at least 2hrs after food. That's to enable those two amino acids to cross the blood brain barrier without getting diluted by other amino acids (as in protein foods).

ive looked into Nootropic's before. They seem interesting and i am keen to give them ago.

However do your research, from what I have read if you get the doses wrong and dont take the right combination of drugs, you will suffer from sever headaches.

There are a few write ups on Anabolic Minds regarding them. Recommend giving them a read.

Turns out they had to substitute some ingredients for exportation to Australia anyway, so here's the dosage:

Multivitamins are supplements, same as any other supplement. Can supplement a bloody healthy diet, however pretty useless if you eat cheeseburgers all day.

I worked in the industry a while ago, and even though there are better multi's than others, i bet you couldn't tell the difference between any of them when taking them.

There's only so much you can put into a tablet.

Vitamins/minerals can be good if used for the right reason, however you really need to supplement them seperatley to get a decent dose of anything.

As Terry would know, there is no magic tablet that contains the right thing of everything, but people still look for it. If you want a decent vitamin b, or vitamin a, or vitamin c etc etc, you need to have a fair bit of space in the cupboard ;)

This is very true, as you mentioned though, I personally merely use it to supplement the natural sources in my diet, not to rely on as an excuse to eat crap with next to no nutritional value. Same thing applies to protein powders... funny how it's called a supplement, yet some people rely on it to make up their entire protein intake daily.

RRP of Hivita Stress (about the strongest B Complex on the market) goes up from $29.95/100 to $49.95/100 from the 1st July ie tomorrow. WTF!

I rang them up and told them, "You've killed the goose..."

They sent out a rep to explain why > I told him, "You've killed the goose..."

    • I believe mine is helical and not clutch type. During drifting one wheel was spining as if it was open diff so bought kazz 1.5 way and has sat on my shelf for the past 5 years as I want to learn shiming process and do it myself   in meantime thought I change the diff oil hence post here. So any 75-90?   i am pretty sure r34 are helical not clutch lsd as standard . That is gtt ones
    • Throw between gears are so much that is getting annoying. I have pro short shifter on my mx5 and e36 and love it . Skyline is getting unbearable    would syncro issues and short shifter is no no? Anyone mind explaining a little on why before i buy cube
    • No. Well, some people "seem to use redline shockproof in the diff". Most do not. I would only contemplate it if you have badly worn CW&P gears. And no. No-one in their right mind has ever put ATF into a diff. Any normal diff/gear oil of the right viscosity will do. Whatever takes your fancy. Castrol, Nulon, Penrite, Redline MT range. Whatever. It's just gears. 75W-90 or 80W-90 is typical. I think that GL-5 is hard to avoid these days, although I think that a GL-4 is probably preferred, given the vintage of the equipment. At least Redline offer a number of GL-4 oils. If you have a clutch type LSD instead of the VLSD, then of course you need a proper LSD oil. Anything from any of the same names above. If you have a helical LSD, then it does not require LSD oil, and the recco is the same as for the VLSD. You don't want the LSD friction modifiers in the oil for a non-clutch type LSD if you can avoid it.  
    • You may want to list it up for a little higher - This price is much lower than you may realize. Here you're pretty much selling to people who most likely already have these things on their own rigs. S chassis people eat this stuff up like you'd not believe.
    • I had my car for over 10 years and done around few thousand miles but never changed the oil. thinking of changing it.   what brand and viscocity would you put in ? people seem to use redline shockproof in the diff   on  contraty seen others using atf dexron 2 or 3 so wanted to check. is it 1 liter?
