if a supra can do those big speeds Just curious as to why a bored out rb26dett with big horses cant do the same even a modified rb30dett. I cant beleive the speed on that supra thats 395kmph one of the fastest things in the world. How and why hasnt the GTR competed with it, If it has can anyone advise me ?

Because no one gives a shit that a supra can do 395kp/h I literally have never woken up and worried about the size of my penis, well not in relation to that land speed record of a supra anyway.

Aero dynamics anyone? GTR's are Fkn bricks through the air. R32 Cd is .40, R33 with the rear wing flat is .35 and the R34 with the rear wing flat is .36 IIRC. The R35 is .27 or something like that.

As much as I love GTR's, they really are not the car for that sort of stuff.

I not say ing it keeps me up at night im just wondering if they could do it , Now that you say the autostyle can, I can rest easier lol jks nah but i was starting to think they couldnt do it for some reason then i would think why.... but anyways looks like this thread is dead lmao... Piggaz check this out for aero dynamics:

I wonder what speed it will do 0-400 lool

apparently the autostyle R32 has the potential to reach 400kph at the top of 4th gear.

but who cares.

Sounds like they have their hand on it to be honest.

There's a lot more to reaching 400kph than power and gear ratios.

very very sure a skyline can hit 400kmh, ive seen VW multivan hit 330kmh, and that is a tissue box! you may need the extra power to get the car there.

even if, i still dont see a point in needing to go to that speed. rather see a skyline do crazy lap times around the Nurburgring...

most skyline owners i dont think really care about top speed

most are interested in lateral acceleration

ie get to 200km/h as quick as you can

who cares what it tops out at, most probably dont even know

its like the age old question

oh my commodore is faster, the speedo goes to 220km/h and your skyline only goes to 180km/h

even with the factory speed limiter in place the skyline reaches 180km/h much quicker than the commodore would

this is what i call "fast" - lateral acceleration, not top speed

but back to the original topic

any car could technically do it, just gearing, weight, power and setup

expensive of course

but no reason why a supra can do 400km/h and a skyline can't

I was involved with standing mile racing in florida. All the higher speed cars were of an origional efficient design, to cut down the effort required to sustain speed... ie less hp.

My last event it was a late model gt40 that broke the record for a few weeks. and it had 1800 odd bhp...

If you throw enough money at any car you can get it to run over 300mph. It just takes more money and development to get a GTR to run top numbers, than it would for a more 'slipery' car e.g supra/gt40/viper/lambo etc.

The gt40 was a $1000000 dollar car... throw a million bucks at a GTR and you'll get a similar result.

Either you are talking our your anooous... or they are.

Doesn't matter either way as there is zero chance that will happen.

Top of 4th doing 400km/h... lol. please.

When they were doin drags with GTRs on an airport tarmac.

pfft, 0-300 in 13 secs ? http://www.youtube.c...feature=related half the time.

here u go skyline beating a bugatti

that is only a drag race. can garantee that once they were above about 300kmh the veyron would claw the gtr back like it was standing still.

as people have said, the main thing limiting it would be the aero package. this is the reason why lower power cars won't ever hit redline in top gear. they don't have enough power to overcome the drag.

oh and i think the record for a commodore is something like 404kmh on the salt flats set back in 2002 (or there abouts).

400km/h at the top of 4th? Lol!!!!! Have they got 3:1 diff ratios?

Yeah no worries... Any car can have the ratios to get to 1000 km/h, doesn't mean it will!

The 'fastest' GTR is that JUN thingon the salt flats. NFI on what it did (will look it up tomorrow) but 383km/h rings s bell.

Show me one GTR that has cracked 400 km/h!

Really if you want to get nitty gritty, Ash and I were at their last event at that same airport your talking about and they got where I came from and what fuel Ash was on wrong.

Dont believe everything you read on the net!

    • The old manifold was quite under the GTR strut brace.  The new manifold is quite [unknown] the GTR strut brace. The GTR strut brace was needed to clear the bonnet vents. The Old strut brace will almost certainly clear the new manifold, but not the bonnet vents. The old strut brace will almost certainly clear the new manifold, and the new bonnet without vents. But I am hoping the GTR strut brace clears the new manifold :p
    • On the bright side, at least you knew that it happened and remedied before anything happened. A friend of mine just took his Fiat 124 to a shop for an oil change and they didn't tighten the oil filter housing properly. 4.5 quarts spewed out and even after refilling + tightening the cap the engine has a tick now.
    • So, more pain. The FAST manifold is a little larger than the stocker. This is problematic because there really wasn't much clearance to begin with, so going from 'barely enough' well into 'no' is sad based on the external dimensions of the thing, even though where it bolts to the head is the same. Result is the fuel rails sit a good 25mm higher, and this is a bit of an issue with the wiring that runs behind the motor, and the fuel lines, and everything else. When pushing the manifold on, it required a huge amount of force to crush wiring looms to fit it, sensors like the MAP sensor are about 1mm from the firewall, and the FPR just has to bend ABS lines to be forced into place. After some brainstorming and some sad drinking, the loom for some reason ran from the grommet behind the ABS sensor, then to the driver side head, then back to the passenger side head. So all of this was pulled back and stripped, a few wires cut and rejoined, so that the 'branch' was now on the passenger side's head as below: Before you basically couldn't see anything behind the driver head. This is much improved! The MAP sensor is now pointing up (instead of at the firewall) Brackets have been made up for the rail. The rails are for a LS1, the manifold is designed around a LS2 as it's base. Which of course has slightly different bracketry and water pump clearance, hence the mods people need to do. Should be hopefully mounted tonight. I spent money on a new FPR that is slightly more compact than my Turbosmart FPR1200. The gauge has also been moved to the rail. There's also apparently an ORB to AN Union instead of the adapter, because the ~25mm of the current adapter is going to make the difference. Provided this all goes together and arrives today, it'll be the totally not stressful attempt to start it.
    • This seems like a pointless exercise. There is no E30 availability. Ongoing availability of E85 should not be assumed. Flex-fuel is the only sensible approach, so you can use E85 when and where you can get it, 98 when that's al you can get, and anything in between as you fill it up and drain it down. And if that means replacing the pumps, fitting a flex capable sensor/ECU/whatever has to be done to these Renault shitboxen, then.....so be it?
