Aussie Godzilla - The R32 GT-R Arrives Downunder

By Damian Kringas

Paperback, 148 pages

Code 24532, $19.95

A great little book full of stories and anecdotes about how Nissan brought the awesome R32 GT-R to the Australian market and the feathers they ruffled in Australian touring car racing, ultimately causing the governing body to change the rules to exclude the model.

Australia would be the only country outside Japan to have the honour of racing it, and for Nissan Australia it was a period of corporate turmoil and they, as a brand, would also never be the same.

The R32 GT-R was dubbed Godzilla, after the city stompin' monster and culturally was compared to as an invasion - it was.

The production of this little gem isn't flash, but it's an interesting part of Australian motorsport history that any touring car fan should read.

hmm, interesting. not sure about this bit: "The production of this little gem isn't flash," not exactly compelling me to buy a copy. also listed as paperback, would be keen if it was hard cover.

been reading my senna 'lotus years' book btw. good book with lots of nice pics.

Well for $20 it is not going to be top notch production.

As long as it has some content I dont really mind if it is stapled together dunny paper. I get sick of buying supposedly brilliant books that have nothing new to say.

Yeah the Senna book has brilliant photos & anecdotes etc all through it. Lots of good content too - a world a way from the sort of coffee table shite you so often see.

dear me... I would've designed him a new cover for free just to save my eyes the displeasure of that train wreck

but yeah content more important than the cover and always good to see well written books on this topic... go the GTR!

If the "interesting part of Australian motorsport history" is as one sided as I suspect it will be, and I am judging the book by it's cover here, I'll give this one a miss.

Who am I kidding, I probably wouldn't read it anyway lol.

    • I'll snap up some photos when I'm back home, in the office today meeting my "in the office" quota. Have 2x Teams calls scheduled in, office culture they reckon.   I've never owned a proper off the shelf sub, I've always made or modified broken ones with Jaycar plate amps and/or car subwoofer drivers. The current (and broken) subwoofer has a proper home driver in it, Dayton driver, thos one https://www.daytonaudio.com/product/118/rss265hf-4-10-reference-hf-subwoofer-4-ohm FS of 25Hz, which is low but not low enough. Yeah, I think they were brought out to the market to compete with SVS. I would love a SVS PB-3000 but they're not cheap, especially after their price hike. From reviews online, it does look like the Tonewinner D6000 would destroy and with good amount of money saved too.
    • yeah, that happens too.  I'm really enjoying 4WDing at the moment, seen a few beautiful spots and want to go explore more of this enormous country.  The 370Z got a clutch LSD in it and a track day, great fun.  Getting the back end sorted out really rejuvenated my enthusiasm for driving it hard, the viscous one is poo especially in such a short and wide chassis.  The VLSD unpredictability was more benign in a long and skinny Skyline.
    • With my pre/power I use a remote trigger cable(3.5mm jack each end). I turn tv on, it turns both on via ARC. Or, just the pre with the remote or its streaming software, turns on both. Not that difficult at all. Obviously,  you would also want to actually update/upgrade over other factors in your life(bills, family, other hobbies, etc)
    • Yeah, nightfall was very "meh". And I'm crap at pvp, so feels like everyone has cheats(it's just my lack of skill). Final shape has been pretty good. New raid and dungeon are pretty good. If you want to give it a go, probably wait until it's on sale. But, as usual, most of it feels very familiar.
    • This morning was Kingswood's Microscopic Wars. It is the album's 10 year anniversary this year and we went to see them play the whole album as a special show a couple of months back. Was pretty spectacular.
