depends on what you want to run it on ?

how loud you want it?

cost range?

brand loyalty?

size?space you have

what ohm load your running it at ?

how much do you want to spend on wiring upgrades and alternators, battteries ?

do you want class, A, AB, D, Hybrid ? why mono ? you can do stereo amps as well ?

do you want sound quality, and control of your woofer ? or just bass

what size woofer, what box is it in ?

a 50 dollar 1500 watt mono block is nasty

and 2000+ dollars would one be fine

but Im sure as you can see you need to answer more questions to make a informed decision and be happy with it

why 1500 watts, ? RMS or max power ? real world ?

good power for a mono block, is 24,000 watts at 1 ohm. but you battery load would be retarded

powering what ? a 900 watt sub from jensen or amp from jensen ??

the sony is a small step up at best ? it wouldnt be my first choice for a budget sub amp.

Id suggest just getting a 900watt RMS (stated) or higher Kenwood mono D amp. Assuming thats a DVC/2ohm sub. They are cheap and dont sound too bad and will put out about 400RMS at 60hz at 2Ohm stable which is probably more than a sony "1500" could handle. But in all honesty sony dont really make high power subs so any $250 amp is likely to max it out

it depends on all the thing i asked before?

and what kind of box the subs in

how loud do you want it?

do you have the subs model or ohm load, how many voice coils?

yada yada yada, as above

are you running a amp on the front speakers or deck power?

kenwood is decent cheap amp ?

the new sony speakers are rated around 1500watts "PEAK" power and around 400 rms, for anything more then a few seconds in the wrong box or clipping will kill the woofer ?

what are you trying to do exactly ? louder? deeper ? clearer ?tighter bass ?

it might be a waste of money to drop a big amp on a poor sub in a generic box , mounted wrong or x-over wrong ?

Are you after sealed or ported? how much space are you willing to lose? because if you want "reasonable amount of undistorted bass" your going to need to tune the box which Sapphire would be able to tell you all about

ok, well its a four ohm sub single voice coil, just want a resonable amount of undistorted bass

Like before

price range ?

amount of space you want to loose ? what kind of box do you have now ? sealed , ported, factory , generic , approx how big is it ?

sub model ? so I can see the Thiele parameters

what kind of music do you listen too mostly ? how loud ? and what source is it most of the time, MP3 , radio, CD ? some music lends itself to a different box , and same with loud volumes, safer for the woofer

what head unit type are you running, ? do you know the specs for line out voltage ? because if your amp needs high level inputs or converter that will make a difference ?

I take it this is in a R31 4 dr ?

do the front speakers use a amp or deck power ?

without answering these questions its hard to help you find options , just throwing a 2000 dollar amp on it wont make it sound better if its in free air, or the deck has convertors and playing MP3 at low bit rates

this might be as simple as a few bucks worth of poly fill, and reseal the woofer, change the crossover point or face the box another direction to make it sound better ?

about 300 bucks maybe more, space im happy to loose most of the boot, the box is a 50 litre ported, its an xploid 15 1500w thats all i know, i tend to listen to linken park, acdc etc in high quality mp3, im running a sony xploid 4x45 watt?, front speakers are deck power

    • My extinguisher mounted like this unscrewed a little (Maybe from the chair sliding forward) and dumped a bit of white on my mats. I'll need to get a more narrow one for future.
    • I totally couldn't do the whole kids taking up my life thing! 😮 I find it bad enough doing 45 hours in 4 days, and then fitting normal adulting life into the other 3 with no kids! As for my mates race cars, they're AMG C63 setup for production racing. The original is what has just been stripped and a brand new shell built. The original is then going away to have some panels straightened, then it will be put back together again. Then there's a third that will shortly head off to have a roll cage put in, then build it up too. And potentially a fourth to be built too... Oh, and he has two Renault Clio D class production cars, ha ha. And when he's not racing them in the Australians and QLD production championships, he's been racing one of Chaz Mostert's Lamborghini's in GT4. They just won GT4 at the 12 hour in the Lambo. We're pushing to finish the new AMG as it has its first round (and potentially its first shakedown/outing) in under w weeks for Round one of QPC, and that round is really the shakedown to make sure it's all good for the Bathurst 6 hour, which I'll be at too. Ha ha ha Working on my project is different to his, I slowly tinker and work ways to make things happen on a shoe string budget. Hes in a good position that he has a massive workshop full of parts and tools, ha ha. He also looks after me. When his air compressor died, he just needed it working, so bought himself a new one and gave the old to me. Sand blaster unit too, and a 20t pressing. And pretty much all the shelving in my shed too as he upgraded all of his (the stuff he gave me is the expensive black Bunnings heavy duty stuff)!   I enjoy working on his stuff. No decision paralysis, and anything that's needed parts wise is just there. Plus, then I get to be hands on at the track in real racing, not just club day stuff.

    • Yeah mate, no probs. Just swap the email addresses?
    • I definitely agree with you there - I never click on content for cars I would never ever be able to get or compete with/against/be seen next to. Seeing a MX5 compete with a FD RX7 will make people upset though, for sure. Even in 2.5L Turbo form which is pretty grass roots. (or at least as grass roots as classic cars can be) Yes we're all classic car owners now.
