Hi

I installed a adjustable fuel reg to help run stock pressures as I have a gtr fuel pump to help stop some of the hesitation of car running rich. When I first installed it it was fine, no noise and I set the pressure to about 3 bar with the engine off. I drove the car today and it was whining on start up and the pressure dropped so I had to adjust it back up. It whines when I press the accelerator down too. But not on idle...

Has anyone had an issue like this? The car us running alot better but that noise is loud and worrying. A fault reg perhaps?

All the malpassi 1:1 efi regs make that noise.

Also, your base pressure should be set with the engine running and at idle. You then disconnect the vacuum line from the reg and set the base pressure to 3 bar. Lock down the adjuster and then re-connect the vacuum line. The vacuum will pull back the fuel pressure to around 2 bar if you have stock cams.

Generally it wont make odd noises when the engine is running at any speed. Only as the pump primes initially.

Also, you really cant beat a stock regulator for reliability, even at absurd power levels.

Thanks for the feedback gtrnur.

It was very silent when I first installed it but it only took a day until it made noise. I hear a squeal everytime it hits 3 bar during driving, kind of annoying.

I was under the impression that with the stock regulator installing a pump with more flow will make the car run rich.

Anyways, I'll see how it goes setting the pressure with your described method. Cheers!

    • UPDATE: Hi all!  As we are getting towards the end of this thread where I’ll showcase final dyno numbers and graph, I wanted to provide an update. Tao from HyperGear has done an amazing job building the custom divided T3 housing for the G30. Communication was flawless, price was great, and now the housing is estimated to arrive in 7-10 days! Very very pleased. I must add, if someone is looking for an affordable turbo and end up reading this thread, I would recommend HyperGear. Genuine brands are the way to go as their proven reliability, predictable performance, and there’s a plethora of information available for specs, flow, and more. This HyperGear recommendation is based on their excellent communication, dedication, and willingness to listen to their customers. I particularly liked their ability to create custom adaptations tailored to specific needs, which is a HUGE benefit over other brands. And if we consider the HyperGear provided dyno results, it adds reassurance knowing their turbos can compete against genuine brands. Next update will be after the dyno!
