I have a Walbro in my Stagea bought brand new from NZ performance in Christchurch. It worked well but now it is directly wired by a heavy cable from the battery and a relay. This has supported up to 260rwkw at 16psi but now it is just filling the surge tank from which a Bosch 044 will supply the engine ( with an aim of 300 - 330 rwkw). Car is close to going to the tuner. There are many happy Walbro users although they did get a bad name for a while because apparently there were some underperforming fakes on the market. In a head to head with the Bosch 044 the Bosch comes out ahead at higher boost numbers

BTW bit of a provocative headline and what do you mean by "claim to have a walbro"? What's your beef?

My beef is that ive read on the net that the fuel pump should just lift out and i can just unplug and plug in the walbro. My fuel pump is inside the surge tank in my fuel tank and as such I can't remove it. If someone would like to inform me as to how it's supposed to come out that would be appreciated. Next point the stock pump looks to be encased in the plastic and as such the walbro will be too small for the holder.

The cradle clips to the bottom of the tank. From memory ( and I could be wrong) you just grab the rh end of the cradle (not just the lid) and rip it up. (I'll try to have a look at mine on Monday - its in the workshop). Yes the Walbro is much thinner than the stocker - mine is wrapped in some foam stuff and cable tied to the cradle. You may also have to change the electrical connections. What may be a simple job for some people can be a major for others. It is definitely a fiddly job. My first time took me virtually all day ( with coffee and meal breaks) and the second about an hour.

hmmm, i had no trouble at all fitting the walbro pump, it was piss easy, undid the tank lid in the boot, and grabbed the surge tank slid it to the left and it unclipped, lifted it out, took out old fuel pump, placed int the walbro pump and put it back in, the only thing i had to do, was cut the clip from the stock pump and solder it onto the walbro pump, other than that, it was a straight fit, no foam or ties needed, even the little filter fitted. first go start up ran perfect.

dont see what all the fuss is about......

My wife ended up doing it. Identical size to the stock one. Just changed the plug and put the stock filter on and reassembled. Thanks everyone for clearing that up :D

Assuming you don't have a fuel pressure gauge, and can't easily fit or borrow one....

Can you check the voltage across the fuel pump's terminals (pull it out again, still plugged in, start the car and put a multimeter across the terminals when you turn from ACC to IGN with the key)?

How full is the tank (maybe the pump is too high in the cradle, or the cradle was not refitted properly)

Do you have a programmable ECU that may have been tuned when the old pump was failing?

Is the sock on the bottom fitted properly, and is it clean? Maybe replace the fuel filter as well

No just everything I read was very unclear as to what was actually inside the fuel tank. Now the waiting begins, my afm and injectors are still on the way.

I have a nistuned ecu that is tuned for a stock engine apart from a z32. If I just fit the z32 and plug in the ecu it should run yer?
