Hello Everyone!

Im looking for any help you guys can offer in regards to Z32 compatibility in regards to RB25 trans.

Here is a quick background of my problem.. I ran an R33 GTR motor w/RB25 trans until i spun a rod bearing at the track, finally a year later after blow up, i found time and some money to get this thing rebuilt.. so I decided to have a look at the trans as I remember my 2nd and 5th were notchy.. I actually ran red line syncro mesh and that put a patch on 5th.. after breaking the trans apart all looks pretty decent, normal wear and tear, however i don't want to put it back together to find the same problem or even more so bearings were making noise and not that trans is apart they will for sure make even more noise.. major problem is that this is sitting in my s13 so once its in, trans is not coming out unless we are pulling the motor out..

I have been unable to find a solid answer if Z32 internals are identical to RB25 trans internals, many on the forums will say yes but nothing concrete. Since i'm here in USA parts are through the roof for Z32 items at the dealer not to mention that I would need a syncro/bearing rebuild kit.. looking at easy 1K worth of parts with no guarantee that it will actually fit.

I have been told that Z32 trans can be mounted on the Rb25 bell housing? If so, these are easy to source and cost a lot less. Does anyone know the gear ratios between Z32 and RB25 trans?

I know there is lots of GTS guys around here that may have come across a similar dilemma, has anyone tried this?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! To top it off I have a freshly rebuilt rb25 Exedy twin plate that I will use so I have to stick to this trans.. can't fab any other tranny on there as this will require a new clutch and additional headaches..

Thank to all for feedback in advance, it is highly appreciated!!

This guy found a couple of differences between the 2 boxes you might wana look at, it might work out the same price as getting a rebuild kit and synchro kit for your 25 box

    • I did not go to GTR Festival. It's quite a long drive and the car wasn't dialed in yet. I also wanted to see how the racing portion went before going. From what I can tell the classes were not heads up, index, or bracket - just whoever has the quickest ET wins. Never heard of that sort of thing before and maybe some people like it but it's not my cup of tea. I don't suspect I'll go if that is how the racing is done. I did get the car out three times and had issues each time. Some were my error - haven't raced the car in over two years - and others were parts. Had trouble getting the clutch to slip correctly and remembering how it was set up in the Haltech. Broke some drivetrain parts as well that couldn't be fixed in a couple days to get back out. Season definitely didn't end the way I wanted but at least the bearings are still fine! Not a fleck of material in the filter. Really hoping next year is the year I can actually test this car properly.
    • find it funny everyone claims different fuel chains, do different things with their fuel blah blah blah. We don't have that many fuel terminals in Australia. The fuel tanker trucks drive into the terminal, fill up, and drive directly to the service station and dump out. The majority of fuel you get, is coming out of the same terminals. The variation is actually at the individual service stations and how good their tanks are, as well as how much turn over they actually have. Older fuel stations, that haven't had their tanks replaced are going to end up with the worst fuel. Also a lot of older stations have shit design, and shit maintenance, and end up with more water absorption into the tank. This is when you then get a bad batch of fuel. Other shit things happen, like tanker drivers have a f**k up, and starting to unload the wrong compartment on their truck into the wrong tank.
    • Yeah go with that one
