Slayer, I'm using a HYBRID brand intercooler 600x300x75 is the core size, they retail for around $880. I managed 188rwkw @12psi with stock turbo and SAFC, so I can say they definately work, and there is no apparent lag from the longer intercooler pipes needed either. As far as pressure drop is concerned they  rate them a 0.5psi drop @15psi.  From memory the website was www.hybrid-developments.com.au

what shop and dyno was that done in Melbourne on?

Boostmeister- I don't know what you mean by the tubes are too large, have you seen some of the Apexi and HKS intercoolers, there way larger than mine, so are you saying that there no good too?

The core material looks exactly the same as the AVO item I used to have on my VL, and pretty much the same as any bar and plate cooler I've seen.

Wooo up there mate, I was not attacking you on a personal level, sorry if it came accross that way....

Is yours a Bar & Plate cooler like the ones in their magazine adds? Most of the Jap ones are not B&P but are tube and fin and there for the tube size is a different matter. What I was saying was that the ones I have seen from HYBRID in the B&P config have really open tubes running through the core, this is why a cooler that size has so little pressure drop. I think AVO use the same cores (Garrett truck B&P cores) so you are right in saying they look the same. Its not how they look from the outside but how in internals are constructed and whether they are really open or not.

Internally the tubes have fins (if that's the correct term) just like the fins you can see on the outside that connect the tubes together. I got mine off a guy on the forums who had a quick GTR built by HYBRID and was able to get them for $700, I hardly believe that by paying $2000 I would make more power, and remember 90% of Skylines would never see 15psi or 200rwkw+ so why try to sell them an intercooler that would be better suited to a 600hp GTR. The $1300 saving can be spent on ECU mods, EBC etc.. which is a must otherwise the $2000 intercooler is a waste of time anyway.

$1100 sounds cool (if thats fitted and piped) but who do I use here in Perth to source a cooler and fit it for that price?

I am getting tired of looking, and thinking the ARE option as complete kit that the guys reckon is straight forward to fit (literally bolt on, one piece of metal needs to be cut on one side of the bumper) is the pick... I can be sure its efficient and properly sized, fully HPC coated piping and quality fittings, and a BOV pumb point welded in for a trubosmart type II or III.

As I see it, the main upgrades to gain good power are (in my opinion):

- Airpod and associated cold air duct and box

- turbo-back exhaust system (ideally with seperated wastegate section)

- front mount intercooler

- BOV (less lag between gearshifts)

- replacement ECU and integrated EBC (PowerPC and boost module)

If I can keep the costs of the exhaust, intercooler and ecu down to a minimum I can save a heap of dosh... but I have my concerns about some of these cheap intercooler kits, and I really want a Hitech exhaust (they rock!!), and the PowerFC seem the logical pick if you want an all-in-one package with boost control and good drivability.

So the end result is I need to spend in excess of $6K to get that kind of setup :D

Help! ;)

As far as 'main' upgrades for power, I would drop the BOV off the list, it's a 'rice accessory' and unless you buy a plumb-back type you will make less power thanks to throwing the ecu out on air flow. but hey if going slower is your thing to have that "psssh" sound. They don't decrease lag over the stock one BTW.

Keep the Greddy intercooler as an option, it's a true bolt on and as well made as any/better than most (especially if you save a few hundred over the ARE ). ($1600)

Pod filter? cross that bridge when you buy an upgraded turbo, I have a panel filter(k&N) and it flows more than enough for the stock turbo. You pocket the extra $200 the pod and air box will cost over a K&N panel and put it towards something that will add more performance for the money.($100)

Replacement ecu wise you could get an e-manage to start off with in its s-afc form ($405) then add the E-01 boost control($800) later on and presto a full ignition and fuel map to play with with data logging you can store on SDRAM cards even! Before you get the E-01 you could just get the $100 bleed type bc.

Add $1300 on the full exhaust, $200 on a malpassi rising rate, $250 on a bigger fuel pump and a standard bearing T3/T4 hybrid for $1200.

You'll be over the 200rwkw mark then.

I am going to get a tube and fin core from PWR in queensland, a 600x300x75 core is only $585, then I just need to fabricate some end tanks, many people use these cores to great success.

I hope by using a big tube and fin core The cooling will be as effective as a bar and plate core with less restriction.

Slayer,

You could try talking to Lumpy at C-Red. They do get a bit of 2nd hand gear in as well as having pretty good prices on new gear, eg new 3" stainless cat back for $990 fitted. Lumpy and the guys down there are quite free with the advice and don't mind giving you some time to discuss your power needs and work out a long term/short term plan. I highly recommend them.

Rev210, Steve - Thanks for the info.

I am adding the fuel pump and malpassi to the mod list now :)

200kw is a nice round figure, I will chase that (was shooting for about 180rwkw, will see how I go)

I will speak to the guys at C-Red see what they can do.

Thanks guys

Conrad

If your only looking for 180rwkw then really your only an intercooler and SAFC away. I'm getting 188@12psi, will tune it to 14psi and if I can't get 200 then I'll change turbo's.I've only spent $1700 so far and $450 was on a EBC which I could've done cheaper with a bleed.

What make/model of EBC was that for $450 and how is it?

Hi guys, anyone here had any experience with a Greddy Intercooler?

The guys at PerfectRun have the kits very cheap compared to say HKS, Apexi or even local kits like ARE or SubZero.

For a  R33 running a stock turbo ( potentially wil hi-flow it later) and PowerFC with boost controller, exhaust and intake mods whats the pick?

I dont want to limit my options too much in the future in terms of of flow rate, and I don't think I will be going the route of new injectors, fel pump and turbo (well if my girlfriend has anything to say on it :D ) so I think a responsive intercooler will be better than a monstrous power handler that has high pressure drop.

well, plus $300 postage from JP..
