Wtf Nooooo

Recommended Posts

Ok, so, i have an S2 stagea with the neo. I hadn't driven it for 2 days , went to start it... and it started and stopped straight away.. soo hmmm. i went to start it again and oh crap, it sounded like it had no compression.. like when i was cranking it was just free spinning the engine.. i crapped my pants and i instantly thought it had all of a sudden snapped a t-belt and bent valves in that second it ran for..

so i pulled the oil cap off to make sure the cams were turning when i was cranking the engine. i can only see the inlet side but its turning so the other side is to..

after i figured out the belt hadn't snapped, i thought Maybe the lifters had bled all their oil out ? so i continued cranking.. and it slowly started to sound like it was gaining compression, after about 10 minutes of solid cranking it over, the engine eventually started... wtf..?

so please, if anyone knows anything or has had this happen to them !!! HELLP ? I've owned the car since 35,000 km's, its now done 97,000.. thanks

check fuel pump and fuel pressure, check AFM and check cam angle sensor. start with them first as they are easy!

im guessing fuel pump

really? you think all that, it could be, i just find it so strange and a bit scary lol how it sounded like it had nooooo compression at all.. but i shall check all those things at work tomorrow and also chuck it on the snap-on scanner at work while im there.

haha and yes i dont go on here very often :-P first owner of it in oz to :-) hehe

look im just guessing at what normally is fairly easy to diagnose, can be random and will prevent the car from starting :)

kick it over when its on the consult and see whats going on. it might be a one off, but it also might be something starting to fail.

I agree with Iain, get under the hood and start checking electrical plugs and sensors. The first things I'd check would be injectors/fuel supply, coils, CAS, and ECU. If any of the other sensors are faulty, including the AFM, the engine will still start and run, albeit like a bag of crap. Is it possible an alarm/immobilizer system is stuffing with key systems? Also S2 neo motors have solid lifters so no need to worry about them bleeding out.

Not long ago 17yo was driving the 25G and it just died. When he tried to start it just spun, like no compression. Like yours the cams were turning. Compression tested. None????

What had happened was the timing belt laminated because the tensioner pulley had seized. The heat generated by the stuck pulley caused the outer layer of the belt to shred. It left the inner section of the belt, with the teeth, intact. That is why the cams were turning. BUT the belt had jumped a couple of teeth. Hence the valve timing was out of whack. No compression

He was lucky as none of the valves had contact with the pistons. If you do have to do the belt, get a new water pump also. Get a VL Commonwhore one.

    • Thanks mate, yeah I've heard that alot and i am definitely regretting using the 25 Loom now, i have gone through and traced all the plugs from the 20loom and re wired them into the 25 loom, I have currently got Crank, Fuel and accessory's working, just need to finalise the loom and run the wire for the Ignition (Spark) and it should be running, will update if i have any luck.
    • Cheers lad, when I head over there I'll give it a shot.
    • Stock less likely to carry one like that than urethane, but still can, especially if the bolts are not as tight as they should be. If it's making that much noise you should be able to use a hose as a stethoscope> stick one end in your ear, crouch down and wave it around the various possible noise makers and get someone to lift the front end at the guard lip.
    • Broken actuator rod. Could be one of a couple of them broken. Or, it's locked and the central locking actuator is broken/stuck or the actuator rods between it, the lock and the key barrel are jammed or broken similarly. You'll probably need a locksmith/mechanic who is experienced with using slim tools to reach down next to the window glass to manipulate the mechanism. That's assuming that it is not so severely jammed/broken that nothing useful will move.
    • So I've got my R34 GTT it's currently in Japan and I'm not there. I was wondering if any has any tips or ideas of what could be preventing the door from opening. I dont have really any information on it at all since I haven't actually seen the car in person yet.
